The Gameplay
Before we get rolling I just wanted to give you all an in-depth analysis into THE most important character movements in KatanaZero

1. Rolling

You know the damn down-forward key or whatever it is on your controller? That's your roll command. SPAM IT! YOU NEED IT YOU WILL LITERALLY WIN 95% OF THE GAME IF YOU ROLL AT THE RIGHT TIME IF YOU NEVER ROLL YOU WILL LOSE AND FIND THIS GAME IMPOSSIBLE OMFG PLEASE ROLL UNLESS IT'S INTO A KARATE RICKY THEY ARE THE BANE OF YOUR EXISTENCE EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST SPAM ROLL!

I'VE MADE IT ALARMINGLY BIG FOR ALL OF YOU SO YOU CAN SEE THE GREATEST MOVEMENT ABILITY IN THIS GAME; REFLECTING IS TRASH, JUMPING IS TRASH, SPAM ROLL OR LOSE!

2. Running

WHY ARE YOU RUNNING YOU SHOULD BE ROLLING RUNNING SLOWS YOU DOWN SPAM ROLL TO KEEP YOUR MOMENTUM UP, JUMP FURTHER AND CUT YOUR SPEEDRUN TIME IN HALF! RUNNING IS ONLY AESTHETICALLY PLEASING WHILE ROLLING IS AESTHETICALLY PLEASING AND FUNCTIONAL! JUST ROLL

I'VE MADE IT ALARMINGLY BIG TO SHOW ALL OF YOU WHAT NOT TO DO

3. Tea Drinking

ok this one is rather pleasant: make sure to savour your tea whether you get the chance to during the main campaign it gives you a moment to just vibe before you have traumatising Vietnam flashbacks that will haunt you until your dying days or you run out of chronos which is also inevitable.

I've made this one nice and small because it's supposed to be soothing

4. Dancing

Who can't help but vibe along to DJ Electrohead's absolute banger in the club. Take your time here. Savour each movement and make sure to like and follow him on Soundcloud before you murder him.

It's also kind of weird that as you go to assassinate him you put his music in your playlist does anyone think that's kinda messed up?

Here's his dancing animation cause you can feel the vibes. I've made it regular sized out of love.

The Bosses
Aight I'll give you a quick TL;DR on how to beat each boss because they're actually quite easy and their movement patterns are memorable.

NOTE* IF YOU PLAY WITH UNSTABLE SEED RESULTS MAY VARY

1. V (1st time)

This guy, specifically in studio, can be a pain in the ass if you're impatient like me. Always wait for him to pull his gun out before stepping behind him and attacking him. His back is his weak point. If you try to hit him from the front he'll throw you like trash and shot you dead in the face because for some reason Zero has the resilience and pain tolerance of a stick. Roll under his pink and red rush animations, let him hit the wall, reflect or duck his bullet and hit from behind. Repeat 4 times and you're set.

2. Kissyface

Kissyface is an annoying boss your first time but very predictable once you learn his patterns. He only has 3 movements:
  • throw axe
  • Jump and Spin Axe
  • Leap at you like a panther
Similar to V, Kissyface's weak point is his back (mainly) so when he's performing an animation like his leap or axe throw make sure to roll under and hit his back. From there you'll want to hold your left click, or controller equivalent, until he shoves you off like a schoolyard brawl. Repeat this 4 times, without dying, and you win. Hitting Kissy from the front will also prevent you from attacking for a short period of time like skinny Rickys.

Interestingly, if you want to speed up the whole boss fight, you can hit him from underneath when he does his jump-spin axe move although it's risky as mess it up can reset the entire boss fight so practise makes perfect.

3. V (2nd time)

V, after knocking him off his bike, latches onto a heli and tries to gun you down from above. There are 4 different interactions you need to worry about:
  • lined missiles (red reticle)
  • tracking missiles (blue reticle)
  • V's golden gun
  • Heli Gatling

- To avoid the lined missiles sit in the center of the map and wait. Red reticles will appear on the road simply move in between them before they're dropped then, while smoke is covering your view, accelerate slightly forward so the second drop also misses you.

- To avoid the tracking missiles drive in a circular motion avoiding the blue reticles while using slow motion to avoid the red reticles. It's important to note that when the tracking missiles are firing the red reticles will not be in a noticeable pattern so it's much easier to use slow motion and avoid them rather than predict them.

- V's golden is one of the two chances you get to deal damage to him; simply reflect the bullet he fires at you and it will deal damage to the heli. Unlike traditional bullets in KatanaZero these are extremely slow so take your time and don't stress.

- Heli Gatling is a faster, but still slow in comparison, firing animation. You are able to reflect one (1) bullet but they will continue to fire in a straight forward motion. This is the other chance you will get to deal damage.

NOTE* after you deal damage to V and his chopper they will return to either a lined or tracking missile attack so prepare accordingly.

4. Leon Von Alvensleben

There's good news and bad news and meh news.

The good news is that this boss is entirely skippable! Just roll under his cameras, cut his powerlines and you don't have to deal with him at all!

The bad news is that it's a pain in the ass to roll under the cameras sometimes and, if you're trying to speedrun like me, it will colossally ruin your times. Doing each of them, especially the 'good luck' part takes roughly 4-6 minutes.

The meh news is that's more inconvenient than anything else. Even in hard mode it's pretty much a breeze just stalls you and takes way too much time for such an easy boss fight.
if you could even call it that.

5. Headhunter (Part 1)

Headhunter has the second most complex move boss movesets in the game as she is extremely mobile, a large array of abilities to kill you and can blink across the entire screen. Despite this she's actually quite a simple character to deal with. The greatest problem versing them is to deal with the clutter on your screen; i.e. don't panic or become overwhelmed. She will start the fight kneeling to shoot you with a laser (first floor - bunker part 2): jump over her laser, or double roll, and attack her. Unlike the other aforementioned bosses her entire body is her weak spot; she does not guard. After the first hit she will disappear, knocking you away if you're close, and two of her goonies (gun guys) will step in to kill you from the furthest doors. Simply walk up and kill them both using slow-motion and reflect if you must (highly recommend). Two riot shields will appear in the centre, kill them both or take your time with them and she'll appear at the furthest door from you. The riot shields are built to cuck you IMMENSELY, I highly suggest getting rid of them as quickly as possible. Dodge her laser again and repeat the process, this time it should be skinny rickies then her goonies again. She'll appear at the furthest door, you'll attack her, she'll disappear and, here's the tricky part, the entire floor will be laid with explosives. All you have to do is jump directly upwards, swing your sword if you're worried to remain airborne, and fall through the floor. This is when the second fight commences.

NOTE* If you miss ANY of your attacks she will do some flippy sh*t off the walls and rain gunfire from above you. Simply roll them like any other bullet and continue on. It's better to take this fight slow if it's your first time doing it or if you're not mechanically good.

6. Headhunter (Part 2)

Everything you just experienced is going to get 100x more intense so if you're struggling to do the first one you might have to redo this one a few times. It doesn't matter if you lose over and over just try to learn what's getting you and fix the process.

Unlike the first laser she shot upstairs you CANNOT double roll this one simply jump just before it fires, let yourself float over and attack her. She will disappear just like before, knocking you away if you're too close.

Two guns are going to appear on the left side of the wall. They take a short while to set up to run directly underneath them and, once they've spawned completely and become active, jump directly upwards and attack run above your character. This will disable both guns in one go.

After you've done this she will spawn on the roof directly in the middle of the room and shoot a straight laser from right to left. Simply roll underneath it, since rolling provides invincibility frame, and you're fine. After she's finished her animation she'll teleport directly to the floor in the middle of the room where she is vulnerable to an attack. Since you've just rolled you should be ready to go.

Next is where people tend to mess up. Your screen is going to clutter with several lasers to your left and right. They are not important. Since you're in the middle of the room they won't affect you whatsoever. After she's done her little laser show she will teleport to the top-left hand corner of your screen and fire a laser from left to right; you will roll directly underneath it just like last time. She'll repeat this on the top-right hand side; you will roll directly underneath.

This is where it gets a little complicated. She is going to teleport to the bottom-right hand side of the room with just enough space for you to stand against the wall; That is where you will stand and wait.
The bosses (cont.)
You've reached the final section of Headhunter's fight. Congrats. Here comes the hardest thing you will ever have to do in a boss fight.

She is going to do a gun-flip maneuver from the top corner of the room, you will dodge-roll abusing your invincibility frame, and she will land right next to you. Hit her immediately and she will drop a dagger about half a roll to a full roll's distance. MOVE AS FAST AS YOU CAN TO PICK UP THE DAGGER

You're probably wondering why I'm putting this in bold.

She's about to kamikaze your ass and it's going to suck if you mess it up.

Roll backwards, the knife will auto-pick up cause of roll animation, and immediately throw it at her. This will bring you to a black and white freeze frame of her dying.

Chop off her head, scan her retinal and you're done.

Congrats you just bet every normal boss in the game!

Secret Boss

I will do the secret boss in a separate guide because it takes a slight bit of prep to achieve as well as a gruelling boss fight! My apologies.

Takia5683 20 Apr, 2022 @ 5:45pm
you can single roll the first laser, just wait until the aiming sound effect passes then roll. This works for both phases
