How to make the most money in chapter 2 and make everything count
By SurvivorSean
This guide will take you through some of the lessons I've learned both in the community at Steam as well as popular YouTube channels. It's a combination of my own trial and error, and what works and doesn't work from what I've seen. I've also created a 3 hour long live stream which shows ways in which to speed up the process, get out of being stuck, finishing a task the next day, etc.

Enjoy the written guide here and visit my YouTube video for more information that goes along with these tips.

Introduction

Hopefully I've covered everything and will add more as I come across more tips. 3 hours is a lot of video to sit through and some of it like the game is a lot of grunt work. I'm going to list my methods but like me you should take and pass on what fits you. There is no wrong answer on how to play the game, it's what you enjoy and how you can make it fun.

The guide is based on the YouTube playthrough under version 1.01b and may change with future updates. I am currently in chapter 2 and have NOT paid off my uncle (which leads to Chapter 3). I have also not been able to finish the bigger fish activity because those tools will be available in chapter 3 from what I'm told.

For many the goal is to get is to pay off your uncle, but there is different ways to get there. I will go over everything here that is in the video.
Your method of play and the ways you can achieve this.
Many complain that Chapter 2 is a long process and I agree. But there are 3 ways you can go about doing this

1) Do everything you can every day to maximize your profit making every day count.

2) Do a balanced approach of whatever you feel like doing so you enjoy the journey.

3) Take a fast method that is kind of boring but will get you through

Doing everything you can means doing the tasks and making the most of your day and evenings. Lighting has it's advantages both in the day and in some cases at night in familiar settings. In general you will gain about 2000 EUR give or take. Every 8 days or less (if you enjoy cutting trees and storing them before drying can give you less frequent windfalls. I will go through the benefits of the tasks in the following sections.

The balanced approach is the way I've done is to far though I lean towards doing everything now because it is so varied and makes every day a fun journey. But it allows you not to get burned out at doing certain things. The beauty of this is you can do all, some or none. The choice is up to you how you want to spend your day.

The fast method will get you to chapter 3 the fastest. In fact I can describe it right here in a nutshell (but that method is not what this guide is about). It very simple. If you like cutting logs, using the flatbed, and forklift on a regular basis you'll probably love this method. There are different ways at doing this as well and can be a bit more balanced. But the simple approach is cut a few trees and drop them on the bridge for the mill. Once to the mill make sure your always set at cutting planks as storage is not required. While you waiting for the logs you can use this time to perhaps load the planks out of the dryers (place them on the ground anywhere). You could call this your production day where you simply replace the dryers with new planks, and take the fresh dry ones to get your euros. Perhaps I'll do a live stream on a production day in the future. But it's fairly straight forward. Once the days is over take a rest for a week. Keep in mind you will not be able to feed your pets. If you go this route I wouldn't bother with pets. You also won't be able to maximize on milk and egg production with animals. You will eventually run out of hay, etc. etc.
Morning Routine to maximize
For now I'm going to go with what I do but you could cook before this if you decide and go the store. I have chosen to do this in the evening as it's easy to see.

Morning routine for me is feed Oscar (dog) his sausage. Give him a pet or two (probably doesn't matter but he seems happy). Go find your cat if you have one and feed it a fish if you have one. The cat only likes the simple fish an not the Perch, Pike, etc.

From there is go into my completely full barn. Normally my hay is full but this is where you can top it off if needed. Go milk all your cows and collect all the eggs. You want to have 9 cows, 20 hens, and 1 rooster. The rooster will on occasion produce a hen that is automatically sold. This will maximize your daily milk and egg production and is a necessary ingredient.

Once you leave the barn hit the tab and check the game stats. You want to make sure your greenhouse doesn't have any new harvest available, or require water. Then from there go and check all 10 build bee hives. It is also good in your spare time to plant flowers around your hives and make sure they are wet.

If your logs are due to be dry today (less than 10% yesterday) then this is a production day. Though this can be done at night to even maximize further since you have lights on the forklift and flat beds.
Task: Repair Jobs
Remember the YouTube video will show you how there is a bit of a bug that will make this much faster. Repair jobs will give you the most EUR and some jobs are quite well paying like hotels etc. Generally I choose tasks in the order of the daylight. This is one you might want to leave until later in the day but since I'm talking about it lets go.

First of all find your task on the map with the exclamation point and set a marking for navigation. You can save fuel for these jobs if it's near a bus stop.

Head over to the NPC with exclamation point. Don't waste your time with other guys they're useless unless you need animals still. The women are always nice to hit on but hold off until the end if you can resist.

Once you accept the job (doesn't matter the price just accept it) head over to where it's taking you marked now as the status marker (triangle points towards). Once it tell you that you are there and have to repair the building you have a choice.
1) the easy ways (cheat)
2) the hard way
Personally I chose the easy way because if the guy said you did a good job and pays you the EUR that his their issue not yours. Where I draw the line is stealing logs I cut down in previous activities. There is one place you'll come across where the logs are still there for the taking. Sure you can take them but why bother for a one time task and you will forever be known as a thief. Well probably not but I never did it.

The hard way means doing the work. You may not have to finish the entire building so it's up to you if you want to or not but I usually go with the easier anyways.

The easy way is much more fun, fast, and gives you more time to deal with the tasks that take lots of time. Go flirt with some women. If it doesn't work in your area, just go to the neighbor and flirt. Usually what will happen is at some point it will say job complete. You go collect your money and you off to the next task. The bonus here is if you flirt with all the women as much of a pig that you are in the game your making it easier for yourself come chapter 3 (at least I would think so). I could be wrong but it's up to you. You can just ask for the same rumors if you want to be bored.
Task: Find The Sheep
For the amount of EUR you get and the seeds you may not like this task, and I believe you would be mistaken just like I was. This is actually one of the most useful tasks you can get. Now I have a drone and this is good for areas your familiar with. But you want to run through the forest with the engineer view on the whole time.

Also when doing this you normally get about 5 sound sources. Perhaps you might think the goal here is to find the sheep first so you can do other things. Actually don't grab the sheep if you find it unless it's the 5th sound source. Head to the other 4 first.

The reason why you this and keep in engineer view is simple. Gather everything you are capable of grabbing. This includes all the herbs lit up a bright green (this may be easier to do in early morning or late evening). Yes this includes the mushrooms, don't skip on them grab everyone of them. By the end of your task you should have several mushrooms, a handful of herbs minimum, about a dozen new seeds for your garden, and important social points. REMEMBER every 2nd social point you get is the equivalent of 1 EUR. Social points that you can build now will help you further in the game, are used for bargaining cheaper purchases, and are full of value long term.
Task: Bush Trimming
OK this is all about the social points for the most part and some EUR. However it does give you a supply of hay for the barn if your low. It is by far the most time consuming task for the value you receive. Again play the game the way you want to play, but if your going to skip anything I would recommend this one for other tasks. Personally I usually do it anyways. If it gets too dark you can always return the next morning.

You want to clear any bushes with your chainsaw first. Just be careful not to cut any trees or it will be a 1200 EUR penalty. Take your time and be careful here. The reason to do this first is 1) there have been reports of some places where bushes can't be trimmed. I'd hate to do the whole lawn and leave this to the end. Also the benefit here is being able to clear the way so you can see what your doing.

The riding mower is more comfortable and less hectic but slower. The other benefit as of the latest update is appears to gather the hay for you. Where as the regular hand mower is easier to go up and down hills and tough to reach places.
Task: Courier
I don't think that is the name of it but I'm not in the game right now. You will need to have at least a flat bed to have the speed to get full reward for this. I don't think another vehicle or buggy is necessary but it's your game and your way to play.

Simply find the task, take the flat bed and position it in a way where you know where it is and have it facing towards a main road that is the only or likely exit. Make sure you run to the vehicle. When running in any task I find holding shift while occasionally jumping or skipping is faster. At least it feels that way.

You want to check the map when your in the vehicle (this pauses time) map out the best route and add in a place marker to guide you of turns etc. as needed. DO NOT use the cruise control here. I like using it but not when time is so critical.

Simply get there as fast as you can to collect your reward.
Lumber Production Days - Tips to increase profits and time
The logs take 10 days to dry from the mill to the dryer. I'm still playing with different strategies. Try not to cut too many logs down that just sit in your mill. The only benefit is woodchips and it's better off saving this if you can especially for better trailers down the road. I've made this mistake because I though I needed the money more and faster to get out. To me it's better to save and be more efficient with your time and days. Also as I said for me personally just doing logging becomes boring. Again it's all your choice on how you want to play.

There are various methods you can use. You can take a production day where you either skip tasks or work into the night with the lights. The lumber mill also has lights in the area. Forklift has lights so this helps as well.

You can also space this out by loading up different sections on different days. This creates a rotation on certain days that allows you to not spend as much time in the mill and allow you to do all your tasks to maximize profit.

If you have extra pallets ready to come out don't keep them in the mill. It's more beneficial to bring them out and let them start drying on their own. These will dry best underneath the canopy of the building at the mill in the storage areas. You can load up the flat bed with 7 pallets a run. Simply load up the pallets as they come out and dump them all off in an area for storage. Use the forklift to clean up an area and add more to the dryers.

Keep in mind for those that think this is the best way to make money here are the facts. You will get on average about 10K euros every 10 days. So this makes you as much as 1K a day or more if you use some of the advance drying techniques. The tasks can make you much more than this so as lucrative as seeing 10K roll into your bank this averages out much less. More on that to finish this guide in the next section.
The end of day routines - Cooking, selling, fishing
All those tasks are about to pay off now big time. If your greenhouse has a harvest you'll have even more come in. The mushrooms, eggs, milk, fish, all play a role here and the more you get the more you can make. The beautiful thing here is it takes very little time to end a great day.

Make sure you have read all the books. Currently there are 4 books to read on gourmet cooking. Read them and sell them back to the store you bought it from. Keep an eye on what ingredients you are missing, and what pays the most. Don't waste honey, and if you need more go to the store and buy some (it's worth the cost and the trip down the street).

You will quickly discover that you can make 2, 3, 4, or at times 5 times as much as the mill alone here.

When you finally have the 191K or whatever the price for the furniture factory is buy that next. I haven't go that far but I'm currently well over 25% the way there. You can check my profile for in game hours at this point to see where I'm at and how long it took me to get this far.

Most of all enjoy the game, and the journey. Chapter 3 is coming quicker than you think.

For better reference:

Forest Map

I clear forests 35, 36, 49, 65, 67, 68, 69, 73, 74, 75, 81 and 82.

Also, use the side quest vehicles as much as possible to save a little money. I typically have enough before I start to get the Scorpion, Bison, 3 tractors, a flat bed, two large dump trailers, the mower, the dune buggy, and a log trailer; so I run those, but the Treejack and Hauler you get from the side quests are more than capable of doing this.

Oh and as an aside for people wondering, I start with the forests directly adjacent to the mill, and the two forests immediately to the west of Uncles house. I then go for the one by the car dealership by the store, the two forests next to the store, and the three forests directly down the road from the Lumbermill when heading around the mountain with the ski lift. The last forest I hit is the one right next to the Furniture store. Those twelve are typically enough to pay uncle off, gets you at least 5 full dryer runs of oak planks, and about 1500 other logs of various types. Combined with the sale of bark and Wood Chip pallets, you end up with about 300K. The best part is it is all close enough that if you don't waste fuel you can do it all on a single tank of fuel in all but the mower (it takes about 3 for the mower).

Actually there is a faster way. At a good clip with only a few food items you can easily cut down two medium size forests and process them a day. Plank any oak, debarked logs for the rest. You can get about 50 stripped logs on a single log trailer (leaving your Bison for actual forest clearing). Mow the forest completely with the riding mower (this gets you several hundred to a couple thousand Hay depending on the forest) and collect any mushrooms and herbs. If you have the ability to make potions, focus on those are worth the most. Then cook the special (either handed down recipes, or cookbook recipes) meals and sell everything. After about 5-6 of prep and side quests I can generally average between 25K-40K per day. Minus the costs of the forest (I don't bother grinding the stumps or replanting at this point) It takes me about a week and a half to two weeks in game to pay Uncle off.

hmm, let's be honest.
i don't use a car when i do the 4 tasks. i run and jump, cross-country.
that's my daily routine.

i get up, go to the barn, get the milk and eggs out of there.
then i run to the hives that are behind the barn. then along the river to the other hives.
the last hives are next to the greenhouse. where i turn on the sprinklers.
now i feed the dog and the cat.

then the 4 tasks.
if i have a transport in the south and a lost sheep in the north, i start with the transport,
because it always leads to the other end of the map.

when i have completed all the tasks and look at the clock, it's just 9 o'clock in the morning.
+- 30 minutes.

for 200,000 euros, you have to drive about 154 x to sell wood..
that's 924 packages of wood or 20 dryer loads.

all i have to do now is find a way to store as many wet pallets
as possible outside so that they dry. that will save a lot of time.

how long do trees grow??

Do you mean you buy the furniture factory before paying off uncle Charles?
SurvivorSean  [author] 12 Mar, 2021 @ 2:53pm
Yeah I heard about the make some cheese method from Peanut's videos, personally I'm passing on that. For me the only cheats I use are the ones that speed things up a tiny bit during a day. I don't mind grinding because I'm getting there with over 80K in the 1st year of early September now. For example the tree that always regrows across from the mill I don't bother cutting down any longer. I like your idea Merck. I know there is some maps out there (did you author those I seen the other day?) but I like to just find them especially in the evening. One thing I am finding is Find The Sheep's ROI is going down the more I do it until the respawns take place later on.

Unless a recent update changed it, you can mow or trim over mushrooms & herbs without destroying them. Thus it is much easier to mow the lawns for those jobs, & then when done collect the exposed mushrooms & herbs.

I also like to mow areas that these will re-spawn (near the home), since it will make it easier to see future plants.

That is, you still use cheat codes... If you need money, then take an interest-free loan from the bank and go to chapter 3. And save everything that is described in your instructions for this chapter-3, where you are already a full member of society. And save the routine work for part 4, if you want to continue playing with paints, children (if there are any), wives. I already know what you can earn in the game, but it takes a lot of real hours...
