Maybe they despawn, yeah v0.4.0.0 can get weird.

It just happened to me today, both me and my horse went way up, kiiled my horse, and almost me, a thin hp line was all I had left. Marked the spot with a stone, came back with my other horse and the horse and all its stuff was gone, only the stone remained weird huh?...peace

Yeah that is a bug, I think it has been patched.

I made a ladder out of tables with the plank bug, but after the 4 seasons I destroyed it...peace
