HOW TO MAKE PTTR WORKSHOP THUMBNAILS:
Welcome, this guide will detail how to create custom thumbnails for your workshop levels.
We will need 1 or 2 art tools to get this done, mostly anything will work.
Some suggestions are
-Microsoft Paint
-Microsoft Paint 3D
-Illustrator
-Paint.net
-Photoshop
-Gimp
To begin, load up your level in the PTTR editor. Playtest your level and click "P" to set a temporary thumbnail.

For our example, the thumbnail will look something like this:

Now you'll need to open Windows Explorer (or other file explorers) and navigate to (Storage) > Users > (Yourname) > AppData > LocalLow > South East Games > Paint The Town Red > CreatedLevelPreviews. You should see a file with your level name. Next we'll open the file and start to edit it in our art tool of choice.

When you are done, you may have something like this. Note: You can import your own images as long as they fit the level name.

Now go back to your level and click "upload". You should then see your new thumbnail appear in that window, which will be visible on the workshop once you upload.
Thank you for reading, leave any feedback in the comments.

@ReKirzyz try the video that I just uploaded hopefully that can potentially fix your problem

For me it only shows the thumbnail after you open the thing to subscribe to the level. Prob just a skill issue.

@Bounter try verifying game files and reinstalling if that doesn’t work

So uh... I did in a bit of a different way and I think wrong one
I didn't read full thing by accident and I edited the thumbnail AFTER uploading a level (private) and when I replaced it, the game doesn't work, black screen, nothing happening and nothing works.

And when I replaced it with the old thumbnail, it again isn't working :/

Auserobviously Yes it does take a few moments to work from what I remember.

Do custom thumbnails take time to load in?
Also another question, what happens if I replace the file in the art program by saving it as that file? Will it not work?

@Pulmig @mulpig i'll definitely go ahead and put links and yes this is meant to make ur thumbnails to something other then putting default level screenshots with p when uploading levels

plus, you can already upload custom images to workshop items, this guide is more for the thumbnail that shows up on the custom level select menu in pttr

also, links to GIMP [gimp.org] and the rest of the programs would be helpful

also, try using steam formatting a tad more in your guides, the couple formatting syntaxes for lists could be useful for listing the diffirent programs
