make river below ground level.

make sure the water is not completely filling the river, as it will fill all possible corners for figs to grow on.

watch the apocalypse as the fig trees start to grow alot at a part of the river and sometimes other parts of it.
This is an example of what you will get (notice the fig trees everywhere!):
