EMD SD89MAC

Omschrijving
(Requires the SD70ACe Livery Support by Space).

The SD89MAC was an experimental locomotive built at EMD’s LaGrange, Illinois (not the ZZ Top song, for once) factory in the year 2000. Only one example of this design was ever built, and she was numbered as EMDX 92.

Some technical specifications of this locomotive are as follows:

Length - 80ft 2inch (same as the SD9043MAC)
Power Output: 4,500 horsepower
Prime Mover: EMD V12 H-Engine
Wheel Arrangement: Co-Co

EMDX 92 was designed as a less-powerful version of the SD9043MAC, and an eventual successor to the SD70 series. Incidentally the SD89MAC bears a strong resemblance to the more recent SD70ACe locomotives (the ones with nose-mounted headlights, like UP 1943).

Unfortunately the SD89MAC project never advanced beyond construction and testing of the one prototype locomotive. She sat in storage at LaGrange, Illinois for many years, although pictures from early 2014 show her sitting in Kansas City, Missouri. By 2012, almost all the internal components (as well as most of the long-hood) had been removed.

By July 2014, EMDX 92 had returned to Illinois (more specifically, a place called Mount Cook). She is now a testbed for new Tier 4-compliant prime movers, as well as the F125 locomotive (a new design for Los Angeles Metrolink that uses a Tier 4 engine).
