Advanced Weaponiser is a Team Fortress 2 server plugin. It can be played on any map as a stand-alone mod or coupled with many other mods. Unlike most mods presented in this series, this one isn’t a full blown mod-gamemode. It’s a significantly game-changing mod but doesn’t affect standard map rules and objectives.

Advanced Weaponiser originally released November, 2010. In July 2011 Advanced Weaponiser 2 released, featuring updates and improvements but keeping the same basic premise. Today, 1 server runs this mod.

So what is Advanced Weaponiser?

Advanced Weaponiser is mod where players get to equip and use an array of community designed custom weapons with unique stats.

The main focuses of Advanced Weaponiser is the custom weapons. Weapons are community-made. People suggest weapon stats, then, if well received they get implemented into a monthly or daily pool of weapons. If they continue to be well-liked they may eventually get placed into the permanent pool of available weapons.

In total there are roughly 80 custom weapons in Advanced Weaponiser. The number fluctuates. Weapons range from simply stat changes to new interesting mechanics. Mechanics such as a flamethrower that allows the pyro to float, or a spy watch that grants a short burst of speed.

Advanced Weaponiser has its own drop system. It functions similarly to Team Fortress 2’s regular drop system. Every so often players receive weapons. These weapons are persistent. They stay tied to a player’s account in a virtual backpack. They also remain equipped between maps, servers and play-sessions. If the player gets a custom weapon drop and the client has HTML message-of-the-days enabled they will seen a visual indication of the new weapon drop.

In Advanced Weaponiser, in order to equip a custom weapon the player must use the chat command: slash loadout. This brings up the HTML message-of-the-day screen. From this interface players can equip weapons. Note that clients need to have HTML message-of-the-days enabled. An alternative way to equip weapons is to go to the website version of this interface via a web browser.

And that’s basically Advanced Weaponiser in a nutshell. A mod about collecting and playing around with loads of gameplay-changing weapons.

In April 2011 an update to Team Fortress 2 made it impossible for servers to attach players with custom weapon models. This is just a side note to clear up confusion for any player wondering why they can’t see custom weapons like what’s seen in promotional footage.

This gamemode is pretty much dead, since the creator (who has done some pretty questionable things) couldn't care less about updating it.
