The Easy way to Create Insurgency Maps
By Ratchet
An easy way to create custom maps without having to download another version of the Hammer Editor and other files. An extremely basic guide for now.

Locating and Starting Hammer Editor
Navigate to
32 bit - C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\common\insurgency2\
64 bit - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\insurgency2\

Your directory should look like the picture above.

Now goto the Bin Folder. There should be Hammer.exe and SDKLauncher.exe, The Hammer Editor is the level development tool and SDKLauncher includes the Editor, Model Viewer, Face Poser and Model Browser.

Start Hammer.exe and then goto File > New and you will be able to start editing.

If there are any text errors in the Messages tab please goto Tools > Options and make sure you have the same setup as I do.

I appologise that the tutorial has not been updated to include Hammer Editor tutorials. I will start working on them soon, until then you can follow almost any Source Engine tutorial (apart from Insurgency as it is heavily modified). I will start working on video tutorials over the next few weeks and I hope to see your maps up on the Workshop soon!

Do you have any experience making an Outpost co op map? I've been trying for hours but couldn't get enemies to spawn. I keep getting these errors:

Unable to find a spawn point for team 3, collected: 0 , type: 14

No attack spawns found, is this map using the old format?

I have a spawn setup that worked for regular firefight gamemode, but fails in Outpost.

lighting, I need help on lighting! I've made maps in other games and had no such problem. the guns are chrome and shiny. it destroys all immersion. I've looked all over the web, nothing.

You might want to look at a few tutorials from 3Kliksphil. Seems as thought your viewmode is in wireframe.

This is the mod kit for a game built on an engine that was built around 2002 - 2004. If you want to make your own game, sure use Unity, Unreal 4, Cry, Leadworks or whatever engine you are used to, the developers of this are using Unreal 4 to make the next Insurgency.

The difference between making a game and a mod are huge, but good luck either way. Source is easy to learn and once you get used to it, the Brush/BSP system is very handy.

Was going to make a map, but this is the worst engine I've ever used
With Unity, Unreal4 or even Leadworks you can actualy see and find the models and prefabs
This is just wirefames and can't see what ever they are
For get it

For anyone looking for more information on how to use the Hammer Editor and Source SDK make sure to check out the valve developer wiki. https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Main_Page
It has a vast resource of how-to's and in depth explanations of the Source SDK functions and toolsets.
