Some general informations

You need to kill 3 creatures with River character ability (before you initiate fight, you shoot arrow that deals 1 point of DMG. When you kill someone with it, you still lose action point (normally 1, but 2 if you are shooting someone at moutain or fortified tile, and all remaining points if you are shooting someone at palace garden) but there is no fight phase and you stay in place (which we will use for our advantege)). Only instance when you shoot arrow and deal 0 dmg is when you are trying to attack Ghor with his Bark Skin on.

Some misinformation is spreading around about this achievement, to be more precise "you can get this only by killing other heroes". This is not true and everything that has separate model on board counts, so: King himself, Banes, King's Guards and other characters.

The idea is to use Desperate Defence Decree + some AP point cards (sometimes damaging spells too) to get all 3 kills with 3-5AP around 8th sunrise. While forementioned decree will give use only 2 kills, we need to use teleport, or have 3rd target in adjacent tile, since our whole AP will be drained when we will try to shoot someone in Palace tile.
Action order will look something like this (it does not include tenderizing opponents with spells, just movement and using River ability):

kill 1st target → teleport → kill 2nd target → hot rot wine → kill 3rd target
(or)
kill 1st target → kill 2nd target → teleport → hot rot wine(if needed) → kill 3rd target
(or)
kill 1st target → hot rot wine → kill 2nd target → teleport → hot rot wine → kill 3rd target

    Important things:
  • Never-ever pick Spirit Stones from any source. If they are a reward for a quest, always pick safe options to not get any. This is important because when you will be executing this setup, River will cleanse King instead of shooting him if you have 4 Stones, so this is a big no-no to get this achievement. Doesn't matter much if you are not planning to kill King with this setup.
  • Never equip anything (Heavy Plate Armor for example) that reduces your maximum AP.
  • The Stranger can be helpful at early-mid game to get teleport (if you get choice, take "where King come from" something, it always give you 1 teleport card) If you are close to end, get rid of him.
  • While corruption does not matter, getting some to keep Banes away from you is recommended.
Cards to look for:
Card name
Purpose
Played before last turn to get more AP, if for example Stranger moved you to wrong tile, or your Hot Rot Wine was discarded with Glamour.
Neccessary for instant +1 AP point for standard version of this strategy. You does not need to have it with Haste at the same time, it is more a precaution.
Don't forget you need at least 2HP to cast it.
Either have this equipped before final touches, or have it on hand in case someone sneaks near you (surely not Bruno) to attack you, to prevent movement from desired tile.
I case there was only 1 Royal Guard with 1 HP left, you can try to teleport Bane to adjecent tile that hopefully have 1HP, or use additional spells to tenderize it until it does have 1 HP left.
Move Guard from desirable tile if you have no spare turns to wait. #justguardsthings
Bounty can destroy your entire game worth of planning, so equipping this early on can be benefitial, especially if you lost Prestige title somewhere in the game, and stupid AI gave everyone bounty.
Must-have. Either if you died very late, or 3rd target is beyond your reach.
Cheaper spells is exactly what we need.
Since we are not going for Spirit, this can be very helpful to get enough Magic to play all prequisite spells if you are not into killing Banes or other characters. Not that useful if you are planning to corrupt yourself.

Generally you should avoid declarations that shuffle cards (unless you don't have anything important on hand, then it is a good option to get better cards) or make Banes or Guards stronger. Spawning more characters and perils are almost always a safe option to pick from 2. And what is the most important, you MUST pick Desperate Defence at the last dawn when King will have 1HP left. It is not always available, so a few restarts might be needed.
Preparations - Lobby
Pick Favour & Moonstone. While they are not must-have and you can equip pretty much anything you want, they serve specific purpose which is needed for this strategy:
While AI (other than Thane) is not really a hardcore Prestige gainer, we should be able to decide ALL King's decisions to minimize things that can go wrong.
We will have almost no opportunity to gain Magic, so gaining some while doing other things is advised (even more if something will go wrong, and we will need spells to reshape plans into the right direction.

On top of that, you should pick the least Fight oriented AI characters, because if someone will attack you later on, and you die without teleport - you're screwed. Not to mention, a few unplanned deaths can force you to restart.
While this is not neccessary, i do advice you to edit AI equipment to reduce their amount of resources to minimum. For Bear Clan, pick Spoil Amulet and Quartz. For Rabbit Clan, Spoil as well and Emerald.

*note*
Before you say that Brun IS fight oriented, please note AI can't play him that versatile and most of the time they won't stack more than 2-3 dices which is manageable.
Preparations - In-game
Another list, because they are easy to read and clearly tell what author had in mind:
  • Through the game, you should pick quests that either reward you with Wits(more cards in hand) or Body(more maximum life). The reason is simple. Wits, to cycle through cards faster because we are in hurry since game is softly restricted by max amount of turns indicated by King's health. Body, so we are less prone to death when we shouldn't (especially in the last 2 turns).
  • You should be a Prestige Leader for the whole game, to shape King's Declaration according to your plan. Some declarations can mess up things beyond repair, especially when picked randomly by AI. (You MUST be a Prestige Leader at the last Sunrise before King's death; if somebody pickd Life Support decree, things might shift in terms of turns, King will have 2HP instead of one at the time of ideal execution if nobody hit him earlier)
Start & early game

Pick quest that rewards either Body or Wits (only exception would be trying to get Wyldfyre Staff, but if quest needs Spirit, you'll have quite low chance to get it). Doing quests should be your priority, but do not rush them. Take almost every opportunity to capture settlement, kill-steal someone to gain prestige and do dungeons to gain resources. Try to not get any bounty, unless you have immunity (either from dungeon, stolen or quest reward). Don't forget to look for cards specified earlier (especially Teleport (The Stranger might be helpful with that)).
By doing quests you'll steadily move to mid-game...
Mid-game

Quests are lower priority now. What is the most important to do, is to burn through cards to get Teleport and Hot Rot Wine/Haste while getting defensive items like Tower Shield or King's Guard Armor. Pick whatever suits you, but never ever take Heavy Plate Armor as every item that decreases your AP is your enemy.

You should also look for Throwing Axe, as you should not have any problems with cash to cast it on demand. On top of that Moonbite and Leech in case more than one target will be in need to soften. Immolation is also an option, but it is easier to misplay with it since it deal DMG according to distance from the target. Lightning Strike would be good, but it is too expensive to cast (don't forget we might be in need to cast Teleport which alone cost 3 Magic).

Why these 3? All of them are cheap and cost different resources to use, so there won't be pressure to gain the most magic in 1 turn with kills or other cards. The most scary thing that can happen now is to randomly get Glamour or Wandering Circus on face.

There is really no need to draw trickery cards, unless you really want a little backup with False Orders.
Late-game and execution
With things set up, you wander around spot that is between 2 wings of Kings palace gaining resources, trying to stay alive and being a douchebag and killing Sana whenever she is close (unless you are corrupt, then go bully Amber or Bruno if they are nearby).

The most scary thing (even more scarier now) that can happen now is to randomly get Glamour or Wandering Circus on face.
Exemplary video of not cheezy strategy
I've got my achievement at game shown here:
https://youtu.be/dTd9EMcC9j4
(Sorry for quality, but i had to crop desktop from video since i'm playing in window mode.)
This video is not showing usage of Desperate Defence (#RNG), but execution is almost 1:1 of what you want to do, but using DD decree. Starts around 45:00 and ends 46:15.
Did you cried a river, while playing River?

Personally it took me around 6 tries to do it. Since you are here, at the end of this guide i'm assuming you got it as well. Now you are within I got Cry us a River Achievement club. Congratulations. :>
