Cold War Rearmed III - Cold War Crisis Campaign

Description
Today, exactly 20 years ago, Operation Flashpoint was released, probably one of the most popular and longest-lived war simulations ever. And with it the story of the war on the Malden Islands, instigated by a Soviet general who did not agree at all with the policy of Perestroika. This is the story of David Armstrong, Robert Hammer, James Gastovski, Sam Nichols, Aleksei Guba and the infamous Angelina.

When Armed Assault was released in 2006, we started porting the content from Operation Flashpoint. It was a tight squeeze and Cold War Rearmed, including the campaign, was finished just days before the release of Arma 2.
Immediately after the Arma2 release, the CWR team also started porting the content again. This time a bit faster and Cold War Rearmed² became, contrary to expectations, a quite popular modification with countless extensions.
After the Arma3 release there was - for various reasons - no continuation of Cold War Rearmed. However, CnotK managed to revive the story of the Malden Islands for a third time. Unfortunately, his version of the campaign was deleted from the Steam Workshop. Contrary to rumours, the CWR team has nothing to do with it - why should they, we really appreciate their work.

Well, just in time for the big 20th anniversary we managed to release the campaign with Cold War Rearmed III after all. And again it was close, very close.

Without the following people it would have been impossible to meet the self-imposed deadline:

AZCoder - rewrote the mission 'Airborne' because the original doesn't really make sense and he was also involved in 'Status Quo'.
Batteriefuhrer - translated a lot of the texts from and to Russian, some of them for the first time.
CnotK - we used a part of his campaign, especially the cutscenes.
Ghost - Some of his scripts still being used in this mod.
Kromka - Campaign missions beta test.
LAxemann - We used his traffic script in the final mission.
MoPoUK - he ported the campaign from CnotK to CWR III.
pierremgi - Shared his scripting wisdom with us, teached the AI how to provide CAS.
Rydygier - Campaign missions beta test.
Shuko - His taskmaster script is the base for the mission briefing and tasks.
Soul_Assassin - His StringForge XML Editor was used for editing the (broken) stringtables.
Tavo - His convoy script is used in several missions.


Important:
Please do not play this campaign with any 'AI enhancement mods' such as LAMBS. Or even other full conversions as ACE. You will only achieve the opposite or break the missions. All missions work, all missions end properly and were tested using CUP and CWR III Mods only.


Some words for the players who never played Cold War assault and the campaign:
First off and most important: In this campaign you need patience and a fair amount of imagination.
This is not a 'run and gun' campaign. Doing so will only kill you faster.

This is also no 'The Americans beat them all' stlye campaign. More like, the Americans soon are on the run.

The origin of this campaign was 20 years ago. Modern 'player guidance' as in today's missions were unknown.
At best you got some gameplay hints here and there. We kept that, and even more - removed most of the hints like 'how to reload my gun'

During this campaign, you serve as a reguar grunt. You will also command your own squad, drive tanks and fly helicopters and planes.

Some missions are very hard, no doubt. But they are doable (if no bug kicks in). One of the beta testers never played them before and he mastered them. Sometimes with a lot of reloading.
One of these missions is 'After Montignac' where you're alone in a forest and must get to an evac point. You're surrounded by Russians and your only chance to surive is to avoid them as much as possible.

There's also one mission you never can complete successfully, no matter what you try. This is needed for the campaign storyline.

For most missions, you have plenty of time. Except one where you must deal with lots of enemies and time is running out.

Again, use your imagination. Think! Surive, adapt, win.
Oh and make use of save games. You may need them.

Hi W0lle, great campaign! Really love that the original arma can be played in 3.

I was wondering if it would be ok to try convert this campaign to coop? I would credit your work and it probably would be a fairly minor edit as most of it has been done by you.

Undercover: on the second stop, when OUR commander dies in firefight and squad is in the truck if we become commander, frendly AI don't obey dissembark command.

After Montignac: on map during whole mission is visible orange square which is final destination in this mission.
Alert: I met confusing situation. After clearing vicinity of dead commander's jeep, currently commanding AI gave order of moutning on truck. But during execution of this order by squad enemy appeared. AI gave another order of disembark and attak. After enemy has been defeated AI commander started giving orders of mounting each soldier in squad one by one. But he ordered to mount next unit AFTER previous unit CONFIRMED he is ready. I was 10 in squad. I also received such order. I entered the truck and nothing happened until from menu I confirmed I am ready. Then unit 11 received its order.
It is possible blocker because without this confirmation player will stuck.
And yes, I know it is probably engine problem. But maybe it can be somehow workarounded?

To anyone with issues taking off with the AH-1 - try switching to standard flight model.

In defending MALDEN,I retreated to the north but the mission was no completed.:steamsad:

Unable to fly the AH-1S. Full collective and only hovers a couple feet above ground without gaining any altitude.

Air Superiority mission is not playable. There is some kinda bug with AZ-1 attack helo. It won't take off the ground.
