The game's chance of giving you this is a 1/9 chance and is quite rare unless you have been going 45mph / 60mph. In that case it's going to be a 1/7 or 1/4 chance of being bitten. Also you can be bitten at a rate of 1/15 whist going through zombie crowds.

Not one bit actually! The only thing you need to do is make sure you have a few medkits handy despite what Clements the Preist has led you to think. The infection doesn't AUTOMATICALLY take hold. The infection will only make incappitated members will turn. And the leader WILL NOT turn. The game gives ZERO chance before everyone else dies.

Well, you can't. I know what you're saying. "But Wubs, I have the kill option! Why can't I just use that?". *Long Sigh* You should only use it on on incapped members if there are no more medkits.
As long as they don't die due to sickness or injury they won't be lost. You will NEVER cure it. As long as you rest while it says the zombie activity is deadly and high you will heal and never truely need the use of the medkits.

Well if you have no medkits or bullets then you can't kill him. If you have 2 cans of fuel and are at most ~300 miles from your destination you can gun the car and make it to a settlement and buy one. The reason you need that is because you have 8 hours until he turns. Now, the thing is, when one turns you will ALWAYS have another group member get bitten.

Now you can master the infection and rule the undead!
