if your game doesn't run properly and you get just a black screen instead, then try this fix

the issue
if Halo: Spartan Assault starts with black screen: no image whatsoever and you may to close the game only via Task Manager - then, probably, the fix below will help you

supposedly your savefile was corrupted and the game no longer can start normally - and, weirdly enough, the game cannot create a blank savefile. so you stuck between being unable to load the broken savefile and not being able to start a new game. congratulations!

the only known way to mitigate that issue is to download other player's savefile and use it to play further

the fix
1) delete the content of folder (make backup first)
I can't stress it enough: delete the CONTENT of folder, not folder itself
.../ STEAM / userdata / %_ID_% / 277430 /

for Steam Deck the correct filepath is
.../ home / deck / .steam / steam / userdata / %_ID_% / 277430 /

2) download one of the following archives:
5% savefile - drive [dot] google [dot] com/file/d/1485jOrXHS2-IMP9b7yXbXV2X2INw2G2d/
100% savefile - drive [dot] google [dot] com/file/d/1hvveXLptBs9BXHYj0yf12jpzM5d1cLYx/

3) unpack downloaded savefile in the folder:
.../ STEAM / userdata / %_ID_% / 277430 /
, like this:

4) ...after that your game should launch properly

5% savefile
- this is my savefile with the following:
  • first five missions are completed (Act #1)
  • 1/90 Assault Ops completed
  • 30/32 Medals collected (which is fine, since you get all medals in like 2-3 levels)
  • achievements are read from your Steam Account and are not affected
  • - don't worry, it is like 15-20 minutes of gameplay, and you can replay Act #1 (it is tutorial anyway)

100% savefile
- another my savefile with, well, everything fully completed

if it didn't help
1) try to reinstall the game after unpacking the savefile
2) try to unplug controller before launching the game (plug it afterwards)
3) try to launch the game while Steam in offline mode (set to online afterwards)

For anyone wondering, the default path for the userdata is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\<your_id>\277430

I keep getting hit with "ERROR: You are not the owner of the save data. The game will continue with default settings."

Any Ideas as to why this is happening?
