Abilene is a city in Taylor and Jones Counties in Texas, United States and an estimated population of 123,420 in 2019 making it the 27th-most populous city in the state of Texas. It is the principal city of the Abilene metropolitan statistical area, which had an estimated population of 169,893 as of 2016. It is the county seat of Taylor County. Dyess Air Force Base is located on the west side of the city.

Abilene is home to six colleges, three of which are religiously affiliated. Hardin-Simmons University is the oldest, founded in 1891. Abilene Christian University is the largest with 2012 undergraduate enrollment at 4,371.

There are outside road connections for Interstate 20, U.S. Highway 83, U.S. Highway 84 and every other road in Abilene. There are railroad connections and there are also airport connections for Abilene Regional Airport and Dyess Air Force Base.
