    You unlock characters for:
  • Soul Coins – their price can range from 280000 to 680000
  • Spirit Shards – their price can range from 2800 to 6800
  • Chests – some chests give you coupons to temporarily test characters, some let you unlock characters permamently. RNG is against you (as always in free-to-play games), so i advice to not try to unlock characters that way.
Luò Fāng | 洛芳

  • Violet Miniature{木} | 紫微(active)
    Channel for few seconds. Restore a lot of HP in small area (you can't heal yourself with it, but you can heal multiple allies).
    You can walk(no sprint) but can't interact with objects while using this ability.

  • Angel{木} | 天使(passive)
    Faster healing in small radius around you.

  • Dragon Pond{水} | 龙池(passive)
    You can heal agents who lost [Tun Zei] or [Shi Gou].
Qíng Hóng | 晴红

  • The Moon{金} | 太阴(active)
    For 16s you can run through doors and obstacles. 120s cooldown.

  • Eclipse{金} | 天月(passive)
    After taking damage increase sprint speed by 10% for 5s.

  • Cloudy Demon{水} | 阴煞(passive)
    When you hide (where?) you recover stamina 15% faster.
Péng Gāng | 彭刚

  • The Army{火} | 破军(active)
    Use and channel it to knockback or even stun the fiend. 60s cooldown.

  • The Void{水} | 天虚(passive)
    You see fiend aura when s/he is in chase in 15m radius.

  • The Shattered{火} | 破碎(passive)
    When you use item that have negative effect on fiend, your active ability cooldown is reduced by 20%.
Gě Yǒngmíng | 葛永明

  • Military Song{水} | 武曲(active)
    You can see essence shards in 15m radius for 15s. 120s cooldown. Basically a wallhack for shards.

  • Weeping Sky{水} | 天哭(passive)
    You have 3 essence slots (not 2).

  • Widowed Night{金} | 寡宿(passive)
    When you pick up essence token, you run 20% faster for 5s.
Hé Ruòyáo | 何若摇

  • Sky Phasing{金} | 天相(active)
    You dash forward (i believe you can be hit while in the middle of animation). Very short cooldown. It uses your stamina to cast.

  • Bestowed Sealing{金} | 封诰(passive)
    You recover stamina 30% faster while in chase.

  • Lingering fortitude{木} | 禄存(passive)
    You are not affected by [Chòu Fèi] debuff.
Sū Qīnglǐ | 苏青鲤

  • Sky Witch{金} | 天巫(active)
    You send butterfly into one direction (where your camera is facing). You can either use it to teleport to current position of butterfly, or use it as decoy to possibly teleport (but not) and confuse fiend. It travel only across horizontal plane, and can't travel through unpassable obstacles.

  • Climbing Saddle{金} | 攀鞍(passive)
    You gain small speed boost for a short time when you start chase.

  • Kindness of Light{水} | 恩光(passive)
    You can see aura of a fiend for a short time after your chase ends.
Jiā Huì (Kathy) | 嘉慧

  • Seven to kill{火} | 七杀(active)
    You can turn yourself temporarily into a fiend. When you attack the actual fiend in this state, you stun him/her/it for around 1s each time you successfully attack. You can lose HP in this form.

  • Red Phoenix{火} | 红鸾(passive)
    Restore 7HP each time you afflict crowd control effect on fiend.

  • The Leader{金} | 天魁(passive)
    You gain additional movement speed for 2s when you afflict fiend with crowd control effect.
Qín Qiáng | 秦强

  • The Virtue{土} | 天德(active)
    Basically Unbreakable + No Mither without any negative effects. When you are downed, you can pick up yourself after 5s channeling. Your aura won't be shown to fiend for 5s. 60s cooldown.
    You can open doors while crawling - this action has 5s cooldown.

  • The Dilemma{土} | 化忌(passive)
    When you are revived, you can't be downed for 2s (a bit like Soul Guard).

  • The Wealth{木} | 天福(passive)
    The less HP you have, the faster you heal (and getting healed I guess).
Líng Zhèngyīng | 灵正英

  • Greedy Wolf{火} | 狼贪(active)
    Click R to draw your sword (it cost a little of stamina). You can click LMB for wide slash or charge your strike while holding RMB. All succesful hits against fiend will stun it for short amount of time and push a bit back (depends on charge level). While holding RMB to charge your strike, you will lose your stamina gradually (it does not prevent stamina regeneration, but at full bar cost exceed regen value). You can't use items while holding your sword.

  • Left to assist{火} | 左辅(passive)
    After you use item against fiend (like flash bomb), you regain 10 HP (or 10 stamina, hard to tell).

  • Rightful stubbornness{土} | 右强(passive)
    Once every 300s fatal hit will leave you with 1HP instead of downing you.
Shàng Xiāng | 尚香

  • Bow Draw{木} | 挽弓(active)
    Spawn a bow, charge and hit fiend to decrease his damage dramatically (unsure if this affect M1, or all damage sources). If you hit agent, their damage reduction is increased noticeably. You have 3 charges that replenish with time. Each succesful hit decrease its count by 1.

  • Joined Smoke{土} | 连烟(passive)
    When you damage fiend, you get 30% dmg reduction for 10s.

  • Good to help{木} | 良助(passive)
    When you heal team mate, s/he gains 10% damage reduction for 30s.
Niǎo Qīzhī | 鸟栖枝

  • Heavenly Punishment{木} | 天刑(active)
    Summon crow flock in front of you for 5s. When you enter area where birds are flying, you get invisible for 3s (up to 8s; 5s inside bird cloud and 3s lingering when you exit).

  • Sky{金} | 天空(passive)
    You are 30% faster when invisible (any source). Unlocks for everyone at level 10.

  • Dying Air{水} | 空亡(passive)
    Restore 3HP/s when you are invisible (any source). Unlocks for everyone at level 20.
Áo Fēng | 敖风

  • Sky Shackles{金} | 天械(active)
    You cast wave in front of you and knockback everybody a bit. Consume some stamina.

  • Hardened{金} | 岁破(passive)
    After using active ability your stamina recovery is drastically increased for short time.

  • Three Platforms{木} | 三台(passive)
    When you pick up teammate you restore 30HP (not sure if you restore them themself, or picked up teammates gain 30HP)
Yān Chìxiá | 燕赤霞

  • Xuan Yuan Sword{木} | 轩撇剑(active)
    You gain 1 stack evey minute up to 3. You can use it to block damage, stun fiend in small area or summon big sword to block passage. (this blocks passage even for cloaked fiends)

  • Lonely Chén{火} | 孤辰(passive)
    When you block Fiend attack, it is repelled 3m back.

  • Cockroach{土} | 蜚蠊(passive)
    When you block damage, you gain 8HP.
Zhīqiū Yīyè | 知秋一叶

  • Sun{火} | 太阳(active)
    When you press R you change mode of your active ability. In this state your items does something else. You can go back to normal mode by pressing R again (30s CD).
    • Paper pigeon - short range stun
    • (things written on paper) - slowing flamethrower
    • throwables(?) - stunning lightning

  • Eight Places{火} | 八座(passive)
    When you are in chase, you restore HP 30% faster.

  • Sky Month{水} | 天月(passive)
    Whenever you lose psyche, you gain item. (unsure, gotta check it)
Nìng Cǎichén | 宁采臣

  • Diamond Scripture{} | 金刚经(active)
    Press R to cast big shield. While in range agents hurt by fiend won't lost psyche or hp, and fiend attacking them will be stunned for short time (basically AoE requiem charm).

  • Master of Fate{土} | 命主(passive)
    You can't be moried for 180s after getting downed for first time (only if you are a metal element). If you get picked up and downed again, you can be moried normally regardless of timer.

  • Gentle Assistance{金} | 文冒(passive)
    You move 30% faster when moving into direction of teammate who is in 15m radius from you.
Yè Luó | 夜罗

  • Five demons transport{水} | 五鬼搬运(active)
    (it's complicated)

  • Playbook{水} | 奏书(passive)
    When you start dao(chase?), you regen 5HP.

  • Heavens gift{木} | 天贵(passive)
    You passively recover HP 30% faster (probably doesn't work if your psyche responsible for HP regeneration is taken by fiend).
Màn Lín | 蔓林

  • Binding Rope{土} | 捆仙索(active)
    Press R to cast rope. Fiend is slowed depending on the distance to you, and stamina is slowly drained.

  • Endurance{土} | 力士(passive)
    Increase your damage reduction by 20%, when your HP is lower than 40.

  • Suting Rope{金} | 贯索(passive)
    Restore 5 stamina for every 15m traveled.

Xiǎo Lì (The Spectre) | 小丽

[F1] Into Darkness | 无影 (no cost)
You've become invisible and gain great speed boost for up to 120s (you can cancel manually earlier). While invisible, you can travel through closed doors and obstacles. You can't attack or use skills but you can use ultimate. In this state you do not trigger chase from agents perspective.

Level 1 - Cooldown is reduced
Level 2 - Your speed boost is increased
Level 3 - You can travel through portals when invisible


[F2] Soul Shift | 移魂 (1 Psyche)
To place portal you need 1 Psyche. Travel costs nothing but has little cooldown and you can't travel while invisible (unless your 1st ability is at lvl 3). To travel from portal to portal, you need to stay on top of one, and look around for white bubbles on the map (they are your other portals), then aim for one and click LMB to travel. You can have max 7 portals at level 0. When agent walk through portal, s/he is slowed a bit and you'll see him/her for 5s. They can't sprint while slowed by portal, and your basic attack deal more dmg. You can't place portals too close to wards. Agents can see your portals.

Level 1 - reduces teleportation time
Level 2 - you can place one additional portal
Level 3 - you can place portals on walls and roofs


[F3] Descension | 降临(1 Psyche)
Blink - quite long range and fast travel animation.

Level 1 - increase max range
Level 2 - First attack after blink deals more dmg
Level 3 - When blinked behind agent, it gives back Psyche point used for ability


[F4] Abyss of Resent | 怨念深渊 (no cost)
Big area that slows agents and prevents them from sprinting or using items while inside area. Agents that are invisible will be revealed.

Level 1 - cooldown reduced
Level 2 - ulti area is bigger
Level 3 - creates portal (like Soul Shift) but does not use portals limit. There can be only 1 zone. This zone is permament until you recast it somewhere else.
Xiǎo Jiāng (The Jiāngshī) | 小僵 (僵尸)

[F1] Bloody Trails | 血色赤瞳(no cost)
See footsteps of agents who were walking in that area recently, in small radius (180 degree cone). Scratchmarks are visible for short time in small area.

Level 1 - Increase range and duration a little
Level 2 - Increase range and duration a little
Level 3 - You can see scratchmarks in 360 degree, and detection area is traveling with you


[F2] As Ordered | 将臣之令 (1 Psyche)
Spawn 1 minion that automatically seeks and chases agents. When hit, agent is slowed by a little for short time and damaged a little. Minions last for 300s and you can have up to 5 at the same time. When you hit agent with minion on its back, minion will fall on the ground.

Level 1 - Cooldown reduced a bit - minions are a little faster
Level 2 - Cooldown reduced a bit - minions are a little faster, and you can have 1 more
Level 3 - Minions now see aura of crouched agents(?); Cooldown reduced a bit and you can have 1 more


[F3] Blood Ascension | 嗜血飞升(1 Psyche)
Gain flight ability. Deal 10+x*5 damage (x stands for corruption level) and 1 Psyche dmg. When you grab agent in this state, you root them for 6s. This can be cancelled earlier either manually, by crowd control or attacks.

Level 1 - faster flying speed, and more damage - reduced cooldown a bit
Level 2 - faster flying speed, and more damage - reduced cooldown a bit
Level 3 - You can't root agents anymore, but you can use basic attack in this state; you can't inflict corruption while flying but you deal more damage and each successful flying attack extend flying by a bit.


[F4] Ten thousand Jianshi | 万僵缠身(no cost)
Rain of ghost babies. Every ghost baby slows agent by a bit for short time. Slow does stacks. You can cast it while using Blood Ascension.

Level 1 - reduced cooldown and summon more minions
Level 2 - reduced cooldown and summon more minions
Level 3 - summons big boi minions now and then (they are red and also fall from "sky") - they stun agents instead of slowing

Jiangshi and transformed agents applies ptomaine with basic attacks (violet infection) which deal very low damage over long periods of time. Stacks up to 3 times on 1 agent.

When you are playing against Jiangshi and you get mori'ed (with 2 or 3 stacks of ptomaine), you have choice to be another Jiangshi and help fiend in his quest for map domination. You have no abilities - just basic attack and mist form. Your attacks apply Ptomaine + stun and root agents in place. In this form agents does not score points. Original Jiangshi can execute his pawns and gain points for that.
Xiǎo Pí (The Doppelganger) | 小皮


[F1] Painted skin | 画皮 (no cost)
Disguise yourself as a random alive agent (you gain their abilities AND you join voice chat). You can change agent on demand while in this form (hold Z). When you tap Z, you undisguise and gain movement speed for short time. You can stay in this form infinitely until you break it manually. You can use abilities of agents you are disguised as..

Level 1 - When you uncloak, deal more damage on next successful basic attack
Level 2 - reduce cooldown cosiderably
Level 3 - while disguised, you can DESTROY equivalent of 1 essence from any ward (only once per agent skin (so 5 times per match?)


[F2] Rampage | 暴走 (1 Psyche)
Use to crawl very fast. When you impact an agent, you deal 15dmg and 1 psyche dmg. You can't use basic attacks, but you can open closed doors. You are afflicted by debuffs normally in this state. You have restricted turnrate/frame (which prevents doing 360 to spam damage).

Level 1 - more dmg on impact
Level 2 - reduced cooldown
Level 3 - every impact extends Rampage duration


[F3] Rush | 疾扑 (1 Psyche)
Do an air dash with soft arc that deal a lot of damage and steals 1 psyche when snapping on agent. Can be blocked fully with warding sigil, or missed completely with sleeping one.

Level 1 - faster dash
Level 2 - higher damage
Level 3 - If you miss Rush, you can cast it again for free for a short time after miss


[F4] Floor is Lava Swamp Cage | 沼泽牢笼 (no cost)
Cast to create big area with lava(?) where agents take constant small damage, they are also slowed a bit while in this zone. They can't sprint, use items and they will decloak if invisible.

Level 1 - reduced cooldown
Level 2 - increase dmg a bit
Level 3 - reduced cooldown, and makes Rampage lasts as long as your ulti
Yú Jí | 于吉

[F1] Spark Volley | 夺魄 (no cost)
Use this ability to switch into ranged mode. You can shoot 5 fire bolts that damages agents and steal 1 essence per use (must hurt someone with it). You are slowed significantly while using this ability. Projectiles have small arc and quite long travel time. (you can cancel this mode manually earlier with RMB, which is advised if you lose line of sight with agent to not give them too much distance) When you hurt someone with mark, it will deal damage over time.

[F2] Death Mark | 诅咒 (1 Psyche)
You send volley of 10 projectiles where you aim with your mouse. They fly one after another and you can't chose when to shoot them like with 1st ability - all or none. You are slowed significantly while using this ability. Projectiles have small arc and noticeable travel time. Agents hurt with it, have mark above their head and you can hear loud heartbeat when near such agent (kinda anti stealth ability). You can gain psyche with it only once per ability use (although you can hurt agent many times with single cast).

Depending on what element you use to injury agent, it will have different effect:
Ice(wind?): Slow debuff
Electricity: Debuff that will cancel action periodically
Fire: Lingering (DoT) damage

[F3] Enchant | 附魔 (1 Psyche)
This ability has 2 modes:
-LMB buff yourself with wind speed, that gives you temporary movement speed boost
-RMB that set your sword ablaze - when you hurt someone that is marked, you deal more dmg

Level 1 -
Level 2 - you gain additional speed
Level 3 - additional functionality | HOLD LMB to engulf your sword in electricity and throw it in straight line where your mouse pointer is (it is a projectile with travel time), it also pushes anything around big radius of impact area | You are slowed while charging and holding spear.



[F4] Rings of Fire | 炽焰试炼 (no cost)
You cast 3 passable ring-walls of fire in front of you. It hurts agents that come in contact with it. Walls are slowly coming towards your original casting point. Wall is cast only in horizontal plane, which means you can't cast it upwards (even when you aim there). Stairs are your enemies!

Sháozi Kuángrén (Spoon Madman) | 勺子狂人


[F1] Cloak | 敲谁呐? (no cost)
Hit your head with spoon and go invisible (please do not try this at home).

[F2] Ambush | 敲你吗? (1 Psyche)
Teleport behind random agent, global range. You can teleport both in/visible.

[F3] Spoon Throw | 换着敲 (1 Psyche)
You throw a spoon in straight line that slow agent by 15% and prevents them from using items for some time.

[F4] Scoop Rhapsody | 勺子狂想曲 (no cost)
You are considerably slowed for 10s and start throwing random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥[imgur.com] cuttlery every 0,3s with small arc. Projectile speed is decent, but can be evaded by agents. Each hit deals 3 dmg.

You are not seen while using your cloak, but agents can hear your footsteps. Ambushing agents who are in the middle of repairing wards might not work because of that.

You are not rooted in place after hitting agent, but unlike other fiends you need 3 successful hits to get 1 point of psyche.
Bā Chě Dàren | 八尺大人


[F1] Hat Throw | 八尺的洋帽 (no cost)
You throw copy of Bā Chě Dàren hat in front of you (position picked manually). When you are going in direction of hat you will gain noticeable movement speed boost (no matter if it is worn by agent, or lying on the floor). When you hit agent while s/he is carrying your hat you deal much more damage. While agent is carrying a hat, you see his/her aura all the time.
Hat stays on agent for whole cooldown, or until is hit.

Level 3 - When you miss, hat will stay on the floor so you can pick it up and instantly and recast it again. (full cooldown still applies if agent was hit)


[F2] Passage Guardian | 把门开开 (1 Psyche)
Passively, you you see recently opened doors map-wide for a short while. When activated, opens all doors in medium radius. You can teleport to opened doors marked with blue/yellow dot (you can't teleport to white dotted doors).

[F3] Protecting Glory | 护佑荣光 (1 Psyche)
When this ability is active, you are immune to CC's.

[F4] Blinding Presence (ultimate) | 我来了 (no cost)
You pick agent in close proximity to you. While ultimate is active that agent can't see you (only hears your footsteps). You also hear voice chat of that person.

You can throw your paper flower in front of you in straight line.

You dash forward and deal some damage to first target hit with charge. It also pushes agent a little bit (unless they used ward).

You succ cone shaped area in front of you making agents trapped in it, come closer to you. You are rooted in place and can't change directions, but you can cancel it manually earlier.

You place wall in front of you that is impassable by agents.

[F4] Xíngtiān's Shield Dance of Sorrow | 刑天舞干戚()
Press R to activate your ultimate. Now you can hit your shield and make area attacks around you. You can't use other abilities or fog form while channeling this. You can cancel early.

[F1]Rainbow piercing lance | 长虹贯日()
Throw your lance straight in front of you. Agent hit will be rooted. If you miss you can cast it again to call it back to you in reverse path. When you pick lance, you can't attack or use other abilities (except ultimate) for few seconds.

You charge forward and kicks hit agents into air. You can combo this with Rising Storm to prolong floating in the air.

You sweep your lance from side to side and deal damage every second. Hitting agent suspended in air by Dragon Tail will prolong the floating effect.

Summon cavalry of the dead - each rider that hits agent reduces his HP and stamina.

Lore?
Yān Chìxiá, Nìng Cǎichén and Niè Xiǎoqiàn are all part of Magic Sword[thereaderwiki.com], a short story written by Pu Songling in XVIII century. In recent years we got a few adapted movies based on that fantasy classics, e.g. A Chinese Ghost Story[en.wikipedia.org]".


Jiangshi is a quite recognizable character in China popular culture. While its name is translated to "Chinese vampire" it is more of a "Chinese zombie". He wears Qing dynasty clothes. He can be a (疠鬼 | lìguǐ) Pestilence ghost, since he can spread corruption with Ptomaine attacks.


According to Śūraṅgama Sūtra[en.wikipedia.org] Spectre could be a (魘鬼 | yǎnguǐ) Nightmare ghost type since she can go invisible (implicitly with darkness). Doppelganger on the other hand could be a (chuánsòng-guǐ | 传送鬼) Messenger ghost type, since it has no problem with shape-shifting.


Yu Ji could be a (大勢鬼 | dàshì guǐ) ghost of great power, ruler of other ghosts who are very agressive and violent.


Xíngtiān is a part of Chinese mythology. He is rather a tragic character. - he was fighting alongside Flame Emperor against Yellow Emperor but lost. Although he was behaded, he still kept fighting using his nipples as eyes and bellybutton as mouth. It symbolizes the indomitable spirit which maintains the will to resist no matter what tribulations one may undergo or what troubles one may encounter.[en.wikipedia.org]
Sometimes people call him "god of battle" so he is like Ares in Greek culture (or Mars in Roman).


Main ability of Yè Luó, Five demons transport can refer to Wǔguǐ (五鬼)[baike.baidu.com], a five chief demons personificating pestilence in Chinese folklore.

i really think the bannding thing is too much like if you leave a game it bannds you for a whole day

I don't have her and i don't play Soul Dossier lately. My ping is too high to enjoy the gameplay or to grind currency to buy characters. Probably won't happen anytime soon, unless someone would like to help.

they added a new Agent a few weeks back. been meaning to revisit the guide section. female with the whip that lassos the friend in the same way the Xiao Zhu does with her web.
