It's sad you don't like the Beta, since it's an incredibly fascinating thing.
I would like to see a Combine Guard gun with the original effects from the beta (the aligning lasers) and possibly use the model the guard used.

(the greenish-yellow gun, not the brownish one.)
It's actually very fascinating (plus I am a huge fan of some of the guns, particularly the OICW, MP5K and GR9.) and it has a whole host of interesting cut content, monsters, and lost media.
Also the Beta was a rough draft. It's called the "Beta" for a reason (despite such a term being somewhat of a misnomer), Sure it didn't know what to do with itself, but it was being heavily worked on by the time Gembe took that fateful copy for himself.
It's very mysterious and interesting. Sure we have "dark in griddy", but there's also a lot of weird things that people are still mystified with.
Was that a joke? Because the HL2 Beta isn't just one thing, it is a whole repository of unused things and a slice into the development of one of the most influential and well-acclaimed games of all time, fascination with the beta inspired people to create JBMod, then GMod and a whole host of other projects.
The Beta's weapons are also very interesting as much as the other concepts people got to look at. It still continues to captivate many minds to this day.
