Matukituki (Vanilla)

Description
Matukituki (Vanilla)

NOTE: The accompanying Matukituki map theme is not "required", nor is Reaper's Photorealistic LUT, but there is no way that I can see to have a merely "suggested" list of items...

The Matukituki river flows from the glaciers of Mt Aspiring into Lake Wanaka in Otago, New Zealand. This map covers its lower reaches; in real life, less than a hundred people live in the 81 tiles represented here; the great majority of these being on the maps's southern edge (at Glendhu Bay).

Unfortunately, due to Cities Skylines' map editor being limited to a miserly 1024 m of vertical scale, the mountains and hills in this map are considerably flattened compared to their real-life prototypes; Treble Cone, a little inside the western map edge, has a real life elevation of 2088 m.

This map is a Vanilla game-play take on the area; accordingly, an entirely fictional highway and railway track have been added, along with a shipping route, and the road to the start square has been upgraded from the real-life gravel road to a paved dual carriageway.

The Matukituki river, as is typical of rivers in NZ's South Island, is heavily braided and of variable flow. If you tinker with it in-game, you might well run into troubles - the spawn points were quite tricky to arrange. A water tower has been provided so you don't have to pump from the river; and if you run the Sunset Harbour DLC, you will also get an Inland Water Treatment Plant to take care of your sewage (both of these are outside the starting square, but are linked up, and powered by a single wind turbine). For non-DLC play, you will need to construct your own sewage outlet on the lake shore :-(

Note that the starting tile is not the map's central tile!

No rocks whatsoever are included in this map, as the vanilla rocks are so horrible. Place your own!

While this map is definitely playable without using extra tiles,I would highly recommend using the 81 tile mod if you have access to that, since most of the flat land - the river valley - is outside the core starting area.

And if you are into modded game play, I would also highly recommend one of the mods that replace vanilla trees for workshop trees; in particular, the lake shore and riverbank trees should be replaced with willows; other trees on the flats should be poplars, and any on the hillsides and in the gullies should be bushes of various kinds. The map's tree count is about 95 thousand, so there is plenty of space left to plant more trees - if you want forestry, pine trees would be the most realistic option. If you use the Intersection Marking Tool mod, the highway has been pre-marked.
