Bullet Speed

Bullet speed builds will lose damage and attack speed, and in return get a far easier-to-hit shot.
Late-game bullet speed builds will act like hitscan/lasers.

Associated mods
  • Steady Shot (Quite weak)
  • Fastball
  • Wind up
  • Quick Shot

Notable mods
  • Drill Ammo: Normally this is somewhat weak, but the bullet speed mods negate the bullet speed penalty for bullets drilling inside a wall. Use to hit hiding enemies
  • Target Bounce: Aim at the ceiling near the enemy. The bullet will bounce off, and usually hit them.
  • Cold Bullets and Dazzle: Since you'll be hitting more shots then normal, both of these mods are paramount.
  • Empower: More bullet speed and damage, but if you get this you should also get a Block Ability.
  • Thruster: Greatly disrupts your opponents movement and much easier to hit while using this build.
  • Fast Forward: Personally I do not recommend this mod as it will often mess up your aiming skills with the default weapon, and having a hitscan laser-like weapon is more useful anyways.
Counterplay: Putting yourself in the arc of fire of a bullet speed build is not recommended, always try to be behind cover while advancing towards them.
Some players will fire at the sky like a mortar if you try this. When they run out of ammo, you can run towards them freely and delete them.

Bullet Damage

Bullet damage builds will lose attack speed and ammo, but often a single shot can win a fight.
Late-game bullet damage builds will destroy the entire map.

Associated mods
  • Combine: Good aim is heavily rewarded if you take this, but be careful if you can't aim well.
  • Careful Planning
  • Bouncy
  • Poison
  • Parasite
  • Wind up
  • Glass Cannon
  • Grow

Notable mods
  • Demonic Pact: The only ammo and attack speed increasing mod that doesn't decrease damage. One blast from an endgame bullet damage build can obliterate a map, let's see the map survive ten blasts!
  • Explosive Bullet: While not directly a damage increase, this will make your build destroy more of the map and more of the enemy who happens to be caught in the explosion.
  • Toxic cloud and Timed detonation: Both of these will have a much bigger radius with more damage.
  • Thruster: While it is buffed by damage-increasing mods, I personally don't recommend this as normally the enemy is dead before the thruster changes much. This is more useful in bullet speed and attack speed builds.
  • Empower: This mod can get ridiculous early on, but if you choose it you can't get the hilarious audio-card destroying bass overload that damage builds are known for.
  • Ricochet: Your bullets will hit 3 times on a similar area, useful alongside splash damage such as timed detonation or explosive bullet.
Counterplay: If you are skillful with blocks (and they have combine), you can attempt to play a game of volleyball with the bullet and prevent it from destroying the map around you.
Take bullet speed modifiers, as if you have a line of sight this can allow you to delete the opponent before they delete the map.

Attack speed / Ammo

Attack speed builds will negate individual bullet damage in order to fire far more bullets then normal
Late-game attack speed builds will blot out the sky with bullets.

Associated mods
  • Spray
  • Barrage
  • Burst
  • Demonic Pact

Notable mods
  • Poison/Parasite: Damage-increasing mods that don't reduce your attack speed. Very good at making newbies complain about this build, but in all honestly, not as strong as the next notable mods:
  • Cold bullets/Dazzle/Thruster: Make each individual bullet disrupt enemy movement! Since it's very hard to dodge all of the bullets, this is especially effective.
  • Timed detonation/Toxic cloud: Additional damage, and some area denial due to the sheer amount of bullets.
  • Scavenger: Reloading is your worst enemy with this build, and since you typically hit the opponent anyways, this will negate a large issue with this build.
Counterplay: There's 2 kind of ways that an attack speed build will fire:
1: Into the sky: Try to hide under cover as bullets shower everywhere, then run up to them and try to delete them before they can fire again
2: Close-range: If you think they're going to fire at you in close range, attempt to bait them out by running towards them, then swiftly duck into cover, above or below them. Then run up to them and delete them.

Bullet Bounce/Mayhem

Bullet Bounce builds go hand/in/hand with attack speed builds, or damage builds. It depends on the mods you take.
Late-game bullet bounce builds will make cover useless.

Associated mods
  • Ricochet: Best with Bullet Damage
  • Bouncy: Best with Both
  • Mayhem: Best with Attack Speed
  • Trickster: Best with Both
  • Target Bounce: Best with Both

Notable mods
  • Timed Detonation/Toxic Cloud: Bullets will be hitting everywhere anyways, or pounding one area in particular hard. These can act as either area denial, or a massive damage boost.
  • Spray/Barrage/Burst: This is very powerful with Mayhem
  • Combine/Careful Planning/Glass Cannon: This is very powerful with Ricochet
Counterplay: Note that cover is no longer useful, especially if the opponent has Target Bounce. These builds tend to sacrifice damage output, so try to get up close and personal, since hiding in cover won't work as well.

Radiance

Radiance is a mod which fires sun blasts while you reload, the rate increasing as you reload longer.
Late-game radiance builds will evaporate the enemy in seconds.

Associated mods
  • Radiance: Rare mod, but it is required.
  • Look for upgrades which increase the reload time of your gun significantly, like Tank, or Combine

Notable mods
  • Chase/Taste of Blood: Radiance is rather close range, and closing the distance faster is important!
  • Empower: Many block abilities in this game will slow down the opponent, allowing you to close the distance even faster.
  • Combine: Allows instant activation of radiance, and a nice +0.5 second reload time!
  • Teleport/Shield Charge: Close the distance even faster!
Counterplay: Act like the enemy is constantly activating Abyssal Countdown. It's best to keep your distance, and delete the opponent while they're trying to run towards you.
Block
Above all else while using these builds: Never underestimate the basic gun.
The gun you start with can 2-shot lots of builds alone, and rewards consistent aiming with good damage no matter what build you're using. Never be afraid to use a gun.

Tank

Tank builds use health increasing mods to live for much longer, allowing for greater damage output per round.
Late-game tank builds will almost never die!

Associated mods
  • Tank
  • Brawler
  • Huge
  • Overpower: Doesn't increase health, but lets you deal lots of damage (if you have good health)

Notable mods
  • Pristine Perseverance: Only useful if you already have a Huge or Tank. However, in late-game this alongside your other tanks or huges will simply win you the game.
Counterplay: Switch your build to a bullet damage build the moment you see someone taking more then 1 huge or tank, otherwise you have lost. Tank builds are stupidly powerful and not fun to fight against at the moment.

Refresh

Refresh is a mod that gives you your block back when you deal damage.
Late-game refresh builds will obliterate the opponent the second they're at point-blank range!

Associated mods
  • Refresh
  • Static Field (this is listed separately from other block abilities here, as it's more important.)
  • Teleport (this too is listed separately)
  • Echo/Shield Charge
  • Any Block Ability

Notable mods
  • Empower: You can empower every shot you fire if you land your shots, or even just hit them with a block ability from long range.
  • Spray: Somewhat useful as this can often allow you to get your block back if you miss one of your Block Abilities.
Counterplay: A refresh build is best countered by a bullet speed / bullet damage build, since the goal is to kill them before they can get close enough to delete you. Always run away when possible, as they should never be allowed to get close

Abyssal Countdown

Abyssal Countdown is a mod that, if you stand still for 8 seconds, lets you constantly block and gain a powerful saw for 8 more seconds.
Late-game Abyssal Countdown mods can be amazingly stupid, and amazingly deadly.

Associated mods
  • Abyssal Countdown
  • Any Block ability except Bombs Away.
  • Shield charge/teleport: Especially relevant here since it prevents an enemy from escaping.

Notable mods
  • Remote: Remote is very, very useful here as it allows attacks from behind cover while you charge Abyssal Countdown.
  • Chase: Allows you to close the distance better while Abyssal Countdown is active.
  • Healing Field: If you need to retreat from a rushing player and take some damage, this is especially useful when you try to charge Abyssal Countdown
Counterplay: Run at a player that is charging Abyssal Countdown. You always need to delete them before the 8 seconds is up, or else you simply have to run away, as they are invincible during those 8 seconds while Abyssal Countdown is active,

Block Spam

Block Spam doesn't rely on any particularly rare mods, and simply requires having a lot of block abilities.
Late-Game Block Spam builds can delete the opponent in one block!

Associated mods
  • Any block ability.
  • Empower

Notable mods
  • Defender: While not very useful on other block builds, this allows you to spam even more abilities then normal.
  • Echo: Less useful then Shield Charge, but if you have no other choice and you have to, take this mod instead of some other mod.
  • Phoenix: Dying is a more notable concern using this build then other block builds, and this also triggers 2 blocks when you respawn.
Counterplay: Avoid close quarters combat, and chip at the opponent from far away, but when making a move, always, ALWAYS, have an escape route planned. It's never a good idea to charge right at a block spam build as you'll simply be deleted unless you're a bullet damage or attack speed build.

You may have noticed that some mods (like sneaky) are not listed. That's because they have no significant synergy with anything or actively hinder your build.
But this could also be because the mod is very applicable and synergizes with everything.

Examples of unlisted mods:
  • Decay: If you would normally die, you'd still have 4 seconds left to delete the opponent before you die.
  • Sneaky: Hinders any "on contact" or "ricochet" abilities, fails to synergize with anything else.
  • Homing: Very applicable mod that works well with pretty much every gun build. Somewhat debatable on bullet damage, but even so. However target bounce is better for bullet speed builds.
  • Buckshot: In a world of block builds, the last thing you want as a gun build is to lose your range.
  • Bombs away: Doesn't hinder or synergize with anything. Prevents you from block jumping, but gives you practically a double jump. Might be able to be used with refresh to become a carpet bomber.
  • Radar shot: This is probably the weakest damaging block ability, since it relies on your weapon and can sometimes miss even if you land the block ability. But if you have a strong bullet then it can be somewhat useful
  • Shields up: Useful in every block build.
  • Tactical Reload: Useful in every gun build.

    Hierarchy of block abilities:

    1: Shockwave
    2: Empower
    3: Supernova
    4: Static Field
5: Implode (#3 if you have Supernova or Overpower)
6: Overpower (#1 if you have more then 1 tank or huge mods)
    7: Frost Slam
    8: Silence
    9: Radar Shot

Other: Tactical reload, while technically being a block ability, is more of an asset used by Gun builds.
Teleport: useful in every build, no reason to list it as a block ability in the context of a block build.
Powerful Combos
Tactical Reload + Shields Up: Upon running out of ammo, you block and get more ammo.

Demonic Pact + Scavenger: Infinite Ammo. Infinite attack speed. Insane damage.

Posion/Parasite + Scavenger: Upon hitting an enemy, you have infinite ammo for 5 seconds.

Spray/Barrage + Scavenger: Spray or barrage is hard to miss, and hitting your target regains your ammo.

Combine + Shields Up: Shooting will activate a block.

Mayhem + Toxic Cloud/Timed Detonation/Explosive Bullets: Area denial where-ever your bullets travel
Fastball + Target Bounce: Aim at the ceiling above the opponent, and the bullet will bounce into them. Hard to hide from too.
Teleport + Echo/Shield Charge: Teleport twice, allowing incredible mobility.

Teleport + Empower: Wherever your empowered bullet lands, you will teleport to.

Buckshot + Fastball/Quick Shot: Long-ranged oneshots with some leeway due to spread.

Refresh + Static Field/EMP Blast + Teleport: This combo will win you the game. Landing one static field on the opponent allows for infinite teleports and even more static fields or EMP blasts.
It still requires some skill to hit the opponent with static or an EMP blast, but even then.
This combo can kill any build in the game rather quickly with little effort on the player's side.
Just always remember to right click as much as you can when you hit the opponent with the initial blast.
