Austria Fever 760: ÖBB 1099 Addon

In 1906-1911, the Mariazell Railway was electrified. It was thus the first electric railroad line in Austria with this length (91 km) and ranked among the first electric railroads in Europe.
For the operation of this railroad, two-engine, six-axle bogie locomotives with rod drive were procured, the NÖLB series E. They had an output of 320 kW and a maximum speed of 50 km/h. Between 1910 and 1914, 16 units of this locomotive series were built. The locomotives proved themselves excellently in freight as well as passenger service from the very beginning. Between 1959 and 1962, it was decided to thoroughly modernize the locomotives, which had remained unchanged until then. The brown old bodies were removed and new locomotive bodies were built on, their paint scheme has been blood orange-ivory since then. NÖVOG took over all 1099s into its operating status in 2010. On October 27, 2013, the 102 years of scheduled service of this locomotive type ended with R 6816 from Mariazell to St. Pölten Hbf hauled by 1099.14.
