Full Screen Support
  • Download the latest version of dgVoodoo2 from here.[dege.freeweb.hu]
  • Unzip the folder and copy all dll files in the MS\x86 folder to F-22 Lightning 3 installation folder (default path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\F-22 Lightning 3).
  • Run dgVoodooCpl.exe as Administrator.

  • Click Add button top right and select the F-22 Lightning 3 installation folder.
  • Select DirectX tab.
  • Change Filtering setting to Force anisotrpic 16x. This is not for full screen but for better image.
  • Change Antialiasing (MSAA) setting to 8x. This is not for full screen but for better image.
  • Untick dgVoodoo Watermark.
  • Leave other settings default. Resolution must be Unforced. This setting is very important which makes the game full screen.
Wide Screen Support
  • Download Novalogic's official widescreen patch from here.[novalogic.com]
  • Execute the l3upd8b2.exe.
  • Select L3.exe from F-22 Lightning 3 installation folder and install the patch.
Game Video Settings
After installing the patch, wide screen resolutions are available to select in the game's video settings. Select the native resolution of your monitor. Game Fullscreen must be Yes and 3D Acceleration must be Enabled.
Note: Menu resolution is 640x480 by default. Don't worry. Resolution is going to be changed after each loading.

Note:
I realized that game runs at 40 fps while using 1920x1080 resolution. Also when on cockpit view, fps drops to 20-25 fps which makes it unplayable.
At lower resolutions like 1280x720 or 1024x768, it runs at 40 fps on outer view, 50 fps on cockpit view. If you like to play with cockpit view, consider to lower the resolution to 1280x720. Image would be a little bit blurry but worth stable 50 fps. You should make some adjustments on dgVoodoo for this.

I did this many times but I have never faced such problems.
Try to use nGlide.

Well, I did everything shown in here correctly and now my game is fucked after I tried to revert it back to normal, because I wasn't entirely satisfied with the results.
I can't access the options menu anymore, and every time I try to it shows me an error message that says "System context in file _SYSDUMP.TXT" but when I go there I just see a bunch of numbers and shit I do not understand.

I can still play the game just fine, but I can't access any of the settings. No keybind mapping, audio settings, etc.
I'll try to do all of this again as I don't remember having this issue occur while I had all of these installments in it. But if I could have a way to fix this issue it'd be very much appreciated...

@Col. Joker
Maybe there is a config file which stores the key bindings and maybe this file needs admin previliges. Simply right click to game's exe and choose "Run as administrator".
Also maybe this config file is read-only. You need to disable read-only option.

My keybinds reset every time I set them, what am I doing wrong? I set them, and even if I don't leave the settings menu. I just change tabs and go back; the settings are all reset entirely.

I freshly installed the game and followed my own instructions. Game still works fine for me. Try to update dgVoodoo. After download updated vgVoodoo, you should copy new dlls to game's installation folder and replace with the olders.

This was working perfectly fine for me but I assume a Steam update broke it as I can't get it to work full screen again even though I repeated the process. Any ideas to fix it, pretty please?

Unfortunatelly, game wasn't designed for high resolutions back in 1998. Even if you have a high-end graphics card, it would have low fps on cockpit view. I don't remember if cockpit view has low fps or not on my pc.

looks like the cockpit low fps (lag) bug appears after manual installing an 'l3upd8b2.exe' update from novalogic site, BEFORE using any rendering mod. if only enyone can fix this

OK, I found the problem. The L3.ini file had the incorrect API selected for some reason. The value for HW3D_DLL_FILENAME was "Hw_3dfx.dll". Changed it to "Hw_d3d.dll", and now everything works fine.
