Intro.
Greetings adventurers!
Deep in the tunnels below Firetop Mountain there is said to be a powerful warlock, named Zagor, who has gathered an enormous hoard of treasure. Many adventurers have entered in search of it, but none has ever returned. This is just the challenge for the Analand Sorceress!

The Warlock Of Firetop Mountain was the original FF title and provides a classic, no-frills dungeon crawl. The game is slightly unusual in that there is no mission as such, but is more of a treasure hunting expedition.
Stats.
As with many of the early FF titles, this game is fairly easy on the stats. There are few tricky battles if you follow the optimum route. The hardest part is actually finding the three keys required to open the warlock's treasure chest.

In Adventurer mode it should be straightforward. Choose the potion of fortune.

In Hardcore Hero mode it still isn't too difficult, as long as you have decent starting skill. You should probably choose the potion of strength to offset the dearth of provisions, as you should gain enough bonus luck points along the way to keep your luck score reasonably high, even without the potion of fortune.
Steam Achievements.
There are only six Steam achievements for this title.
Three are self-explanatory: Free-read win, Adventurer win & Hardcore Hero win. Simply follow this guide to complete the quest in each mode.

One of the other achievements Dragon Slayer is also completed during this winning walkthru. It is indicated where it occurs.

The remaining two require minor detours from the optimum route and are unlocked as follows:

Like A Boss.:
Follow the walkthru until you have crossed the river. Then, instead of going thru the timber door in front of you, go along the passage to the north-west.
Go thru the door and attack the dog Sk 7 St 6.
Stay, then defeat the werewolf Sk 8 St 8.
You take the boat-house keys. +1 luck.
Go south, then go along the passage that runs east along the river.
You have the boat-house key. Tell them you're the new boss and order them back to work.
Roll 1d6. If you roll 5 or 6 you convince them, which unlocks the achievement.

A-Maze-ing To See You:
Follow the walkthru until you reach the point in the maze marked ***. Then, instead of going eastwards, go towards the door to the north.
Go thru the door. Demand he answers your questions. He will answer you, unlocking the achievement.
The Orc Garrison.
This one has a nice easy opener. No tough battles straight off the bat here.

Turn west.
Luck test. Pass: ok, Fail: Fight orc Sk 6 St 5

Ignore the door and press on northwards..

Try opening the door.
Open the box.
Fight snake Sk 5 St 2
+1 luck, + key "99"

Go in to investigate the hideous din.
Leap forwards at them.
Fight two orcs (+1 to your A.S. for this battle) Sk 5 St 4, Sk 5 St 5
Open the box. + dragon-fire repulsion spell

Go east.
Go northwards.
Open the door.
Skill test. Pass: Shout at him to calm him down. +1 luck, + info
Fail: -1 sta

Open the door to investigate.
Try to force it.
Skill test. Pass: + quality shield, Fail: -1 sta

Ignore this room.
Pull the right hand lever.
The Dwarven Halls.
Go east.
Stop and eat provisions, if your stamina is below maximum.
Go east.
Go east.

Open the door.
Try to take the jewel.
Fight iron cyclops Sk 10 St 10
+3 luck, + key "111", + eye of cyclops jewel
(Incredibly, this is the toughest battle you will face on this walkthru.)

Fight barbarian Sk 7 St 6 (You can escape for -2 sta if really necessary.)
+ mallet & 5 wooden stakes, if you win.

Go straight thru the room.
Continue northwards.
Leave thru the north door.
The Underground River.
Ring the bell for the ferryman.
Threaten him.
Attack him. Wererat: Sk 8 St 5
+2 luck, +2 g.p.

Open the timber door directly in front of you.
The Domain Of The Dead.
-2 stamina
Charge them with your sword.
Fight 4 zombies in turn: Sk 7 St 6, Sk 6 St 6, Sk 6 St 5, Sk 6 St 6
+2 luck
Examine the dead body. + 8 g.p.
Take steel sword (+2 A.S.) & silver crucifix.
+2 luck

Leave via the west door.
Go west. +1 skill, +2 sta
Go north.
Go thru the opening.
Search the first body. +5 g.p., +1 luck
Tiptoe thru the room.
Press on.
The Maze.
Press on forwards.
Go on up this passage. (northwards)
Go north.
Go west.
Go north. (It actually says "return" north.)

Go thru the door.
Fight minotaur Sk 9 St 9
+2 luck, +8 g.p., + key "111"

Go south.
Go south.
Go south.
Go north.
***
Go eastwards.
Proceed northwards.
Go west.
Go west.
Go westwards.
Go north.
Go north.
The Final Confrontation.
Search your memory for another means of attack.
The name Farrigo di Maggio means something to you.
+3 luck.
Steam Achievement: Dragon Slayer
(If this doesn't unlock the achievement, you may need to actually defeat the dragon: Sk 10 S 12 in combat instead.)

Knock on the door and enter courteously.
Look thru your pack for a weapon.
Use the eye of the cyclops.

Search your bag for keys.
Use key "99".
Use key "111".
Use key "111".

You have destroyed Zagor and found his vast treasure hoard, as well as learning how to leave safely. Yay!

I got all the way to the end, scribing my own map, bravely fighting every monster encounter, getting lost in the maze and finally slaying the Warlock...... but in the end I was missing one key !! According to your guide I missed the cyclops encounter. Thx for the critical information, time to return to Firetop Mountain and finish this adventure victorious !

Nice guide, as always! Thanks to you I was able to get out of the maze part. Other than that, I totally agree with you in the sense that the book is very forgiving and can be easily completed even with minimum status.
