Description

Please note that this project is mostly a one-person effort and thus takes a long time to develop across all aspects. Things can and will break here and there, be unfinished, and may not be fixed while I work on other aspects. Make sure to pick which trains you want (subscribe separately) as none are provided here for file size reasons.
Please make sure to update to the x64 beta branch of Garry's Mod, as this Add-On uses Lua functions that may have not been merged into the main release yet.

What is "Metrostroi: Project Light Rail"?

M:PLR aims to extend Metrostroi into the realm of German Light Rail. But what is Light Rail? It's what happens when you upgrade trams to become more like metros, resulting in the high performance of a metro, combined with the flexibility and low cost of a tram line. Light Rail lines can even interoperate with trams on overground sections, if the proper infrastructure is there (see Düsseldorf for instance).
With M:PLR, all the interesting intricacies of German Stadtbahn systems come to life.

Features in the works:

Realistic signalling: Driving in fixed or moving signal blocks with PZB/LZB (punctual/linear train control), and driving on sight in mixed traffic with traffic-light-style signalling, all according to German light rail ordinance "BOStrab".
Highly detailed Vehicles: High fidelity models and scripts, for a realistic driving experience. Trains are scaled to player scale over architectural scale. Be a midget no more!
New types of track: Standard gauge 1435mm track scaled relative to the player instead of Source architectural scale; Track Pack includes embedded and regular ballasted track, in a wide variety of radii, for maximum flexibility in mapping. 1000mm track is planned as well!
Highly varied driving experience: whether underground, over viaducts, or snaking through housing blocks.
Catenary System: It's like a third rail, but over your head! Pantographs follow the height of the overhead wire realistically. Just don't try to subway surf, because 600 or 750VDC... "tickles"!
Fully simulated computer-aided operational guidance system: Log your train into dispatching via the IBIS onboard computer, and the computer will take care of routing for you! No more !sopen !sclose shenanigans! Manual override possible via buttons in the cab or on the IBIS device, or via the switching iron conveniently stowed in the cab!
Functional station arrival displays: fully simulated "Lumino" LED displays, complete with currently present train display mode, train ETA list with accurate ETAs, and fallback (no data) mode!
Functional roll signs and LED displays on trains.
IBIS onboard computer for operating announcements and uplink to dispatching. Say goodbye to ASNP and UNP!
Make your own IBIS datasets for announcements and routing!

If anything doesn't work, that's because this isn't finished.
Stuff can and will break! Please check this description every time you notice an update, for updated instructions! The trains running on Project Light Rail do not run on Metrostroi's PHX gauge. For now, use Trakpak3 maps or make your own light rail map using the mapping asset pack!

Please don't request trains. I've already got too much to do. Especially not from other countries, because they're not part of the theme.

I happen to have the beginnings of a Dt4.8 lying around, but there are no guarantees that I'll be finishing it.

Please read the description again carefully. Any map that uses TrakPak3 works, as stated there. There are custom tracks that I've made, but nobody has bothered to map with them so far.
