So my fiance just figured it out. In ...Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2\cfg there is a file called addon.cfg. He went in and set the following to 0:

"RestrictAddons"
{
"default" "0"
"versus" "0"
"scavenge" "0"
"mutation15" "0" // versus survival
}

Apparently they were set to 1 and that was even affecting local server games. Now everything runs perfectly!

We play on our own local server. It's gotta be something I'm doing wrong

Valve made it so that competitive gamemodes (Versus, Scavenge, ...) cannot have players with their mods enabled on the official servers

It's probably on my end, but for some reason recently this mod only works on campaign, but not versus. Deleted entire mods folder, have this in config: +precache_all_survivors 1, but when we queue a versus match, the models are back to the original survivors. We made sure to remove all custom maps. Any ideas? Love the work you do!!
