MGT2 Guide [ENG][Updated]
By Chronosuniverse
Every beginning is difficult, but this guide is meant to help you better understand the world of Mad Games Tycoon 2, how the game works, and what to keep in mind. It's possible that I might forget to mention something important, but if you have any questions, feel free to drop them in the comments. If you want to play on Legendary, there's more to consider and you need to pay even closer attention to your money.

1. Creating a New Game Save
When you start a new game or your first game, you have several settings available to you. Many of them are self-explanatory or explained when you hover over the question mark with your mouse. I won't explain the options marked with a question mark.

You need to decide the name and logo of your company. The headquarters isn't really relevant, so choose whatever you prefer. The special genre is important and should be chosen carefully, as you can't change it later in the game.

What is the special genre for? The special genre is a genre that you can always use without your fans getting angry and you receiving a penalty. So if you choose a genre and play, for example, on Legendary, it can be advantageous to choose a genre that would be available from the start.

Four genres are directly available in 1976:
Puzzle
Skill
Racing
Adventure

Choose one of these genres as your special genre to make it easier at the beginning.

Set development time!

There are three different options to choose from:

1. Standard is the normal development time for a game and allows you to develop a game relatively quickly.
2. Realistic significantly extends the development of games and makes the game much harder, as time is money.
3. Short development time allows you to develop a game very quickly.

What are random events?

In the game, it can happen that a random event occurs here and there, such as a banking crisis where loan interest rates rise significantly or a pandemic causing your employees to get sick more often. If you leave it on Standard, a random event will happen from time to time, and if you choose historical, there will be events that are similar to those that happened in real life.

Once you have set everything on the first page, you come to the Character Editor.

Here you can invest skill points and choose five perks. The profession is important, and it's best to choose Developer or Game Designer. I distribute the points as shown in the picture. The perks are also important, so read through them and see which ones you like the most. Personally, I recommend Medical Miracle, Tireless, and CEO. These three perks are really good!

After you have finished creating your character, you come to the next and last page. There are six maps to choose from.

Each map has its advantages and disadvantages. For example, the Warehouse is the largest map but also the simplest, as you can't add any additional buildings.

Once you have chosen the map, there are modifiers you can set:

1. An increased random factor in reviews ensures that the ratings of the games are more random. I never use this option, so decide for yourself if you want it.
2. Random platform popularity changes the user base strength on the platforms. In itself, the popularity is similar to real life, but if you use this option, it changes very much depending on the strength.
3.A platform ages over time and is no longer up to date, but with increased popularity, it may stay on the market much longer.
4.Random game concept settings shuffle the sliders you can set when developing games. If you enable this, my slider guide won't be helpful.
5.Random genre combinations shuffle the compatibility with different genres, so if you make an action-adventure, it might not be a good combination if you had this option enabled.

Now you can start your game. It's very important to mention that you can't change any of the modifiers later. However, you can change your company name and logo as often as you like in the game.
2. Game Start
At the beginning, you have very limited resources, and you need to increase them. A good initial setup would look like this:
Bathroom [4x3]
Common Room [4x3]
Research Lab [Space for 3 employees]
Development Room [Should accommodate 4-5 employees]

In this image, you can also see the Quality Assurance, but it needs to be researched first, and that is expensive. So, leave space for QA in the initial building. If you chose the Warehouse as your map, you should still not build much larger, as bigger rooms also cost more money.
3. Your first Game
It's advisable to hire two additional employees, preferably developers, to help you. It's important not to hire legends as they are very expensive and don't provide a significant advantage over a trained employee.

At the top of the game HUD, you can see which genre and theme are currently popular and unpopular. If you're lucky, your starting genre is popular; if not, you should research the currently popular genre. It would also be good to research the first two gameplay features. Then, assign all employees to the development room and start developing your first game.

The development process is as follows:

1. To initiate game development, you need to first click on the development room, then on "Develop Game" and finally on "New PC and Console Game".
2. On the first page, you can choose the name of the game, genre, and theme. Later in the game, you will unlock more options like sub-genre, sub-theme, and licenses. New game types like MMO or F2P will also become available later.
3. On the second page, you can usually choose an engine for your game, but at the beginning, there isn't one you can license. The choice of platform is also limited at the start but will expand over time. You can unlock more platforms later through devkits.
4. On the third page, you can select the best available engine features as well as languages, anti-cheat, and copy protection. If the engine features have a higher level than the platform, you can click on the "Auto Adjust Engine Features" button on the right.
5. On the fourth page, you can configure the design priorities as you wish. Alignment and design priority are also important. If you don't know how to set the sliders at the beginning, you should leave them as they are or use a guide. If you want to play without a guide, you can find out more about the right settings through game reports, but that takes time.
Here is my German slider guide:

6. The fifth page lets you choose the gameplay features to be integrated into the game, but it's best to choose only green and yellow features, as red ones are not suitable for this genre.
7. On the last page, you can set up in-app purchases, but these are only available later in the game. I usually leave the financing unchanged, and then you click the checkmark at the bottom right to begin development.
4. Tips for Perfect Games
Sliders are not everything, and it takes more work to create a good game. Initially, a small development space is enough, and later you can add a QA. Over time, you will need to add more studios.
The graphics studio, sound studio, and MoCap studio are essential for a good game. However, you need to generate enough money to finance the research for these studios. If you proceed more slowly, it is recommended to expand the development space.
So, once you have the right sliders and studios, the employees should be trained to achieve higher scores.
5. IP
When you create a game, you create an IP (Intellectual Property). The more popular it becomes, the more sales it will achieve. Therefore, you should nurture your IPs and produce sequels and spin-offs to increase the IP rating. The popularity of an IP can decrease over time, so don't create too many IPs unless you want your existing IPs to be forgotten.

Later in the game, you unlock the IP market, where you can buy IPs from other developers or sell your own IPs. If you ever run into financial issues, you can sell one of your IPs. However, this can take time as it will not sell immediately unless it has high popularity.

6. Engine
Once you have a considerable amount of money in your account, you can develop your own engine. Each engine must be assigned to a genre, but you can still develop any game with it, regardless of the genre. The platform for which you develop the engine is not crucial; I usually choose either the PC or my own console. Always keep the engine up to date if you can afford it and create as many games with the engine as possible. The more popular the games developed with this engine are, the higher the engine's popularity. If your engine becomes very well-known/popular, it will be used more often by competitors, which means receiving royalties. Therefore, it is advisable to create only one engine and continuously develop it.
7. Contracts
In the game, you have the opportunity to accept contracts that bring in money if you successfully complete them. This can fill your coffers during tough times and save you from bankruptcy. The contracts require a certain amount of work that you must complete within a specific time frame; if you fail to do so, you will have to pay a penalty.
8. General Notes/Tips
1. Don't spend your money too quickly, as it can disappear faster than you think. You don't need to research outdated console components, so it's best not to use automatic research; otherwise, you might go bankrupt quickly.

2. You can acquire licenses for your games, which can provide a sales boost depending on their popularity. However, the game must also have good ratings.

3. Be careful with the automatic setup of your rooms, as the costs listed only include the construction of the room and not the furnishings.

4. You should increase the size of your game wisely because the development costs will naturally rise with a larger game.

5. To find out which type of employee fits in which room, click on the room and then on the small figure; there you can see which type fits in which room.
Final Words
There are various play styles, and every player will find their own path. I hope I could be a part of the journey you are now on with this guide. If you have any questions about Mad Games Tycoon 2, feel free to ask me.
