Introduction
I'm quite surprised no one made a guide to this yet. While there is a limited selection in the Steam Workshop for characters you can use in Desktop Man, there are literally thousands of other options on the world wide web for characters you can use with this app, so I figured I would throw a free bone to those who need it for my first ever Steam tutorial. Now for this tutorial I will try to go into as much detail as I can so you can import downloaded models into your desktop, as if I am teaching my own mother how to do this. (She's an actual BabyBoomer and if your parents are over 50 too, you know my pain.)
Types of Models
There are 4 types of models Desktop man currently supports and they are: MMD, VRM, PMX, FBX, for this tutorial I will teach we will use PMX. I don't know if all models work the same way as PMX in this app but that is what I am most familiar with when it comes to importing 3D models into this program.
Lets Get Started!
1. Open your web browser of choice and head to google, simply type something like "Free 3D model of Shadow The Hedgehog"

There are many places to find free 3D models for your DesktopMan app across the internet, for this tutorial we will use DeviantArt. Which supply many free-to-use 3D models.

(NOTE: make sure your model is PRE-RIGGED, otherwise your character will be in a T-pose and not do anything special on your screen besides jump around like a total doofus. Please understand it is a super complex process to rig a model and that could be a tutorial for another time or made by another user here who is more familiar with actual 3d modeling than I am.)
Download Your Model
2. Once you find a 3d pre-rigged model, simply follow instructions to download according to your site, for DeviantArt you usually just have to click download button next to 'favorite' from a desktop browser and save the file to your desktop.

Please note: I recommend downloading pre-rigged PMX files as there seems to be little to no problems with them and this app. FBX can and tends to cause issues, so it's highly recommended to go for the PMX files. It's also a matter of trial/error with multiple variations of the PMX files you download, as not all PMX files are promised to work.
Extracting the Model and Inserting it into DesktopMan
3. Use a program such as 7-zip or WinRar to extract your files into a folder of its own, then name the folder whatever you want. Put it into My Documents.

4. Next go into DesktopMan and hit the icon in the bottom left.
Enter the name of your model, and then you shall see the following screen:

5. Click the three dots next to Model\Robin and locate the folder we made earlier with the extracted files in them. Find a file that has a .pmx at the end of it and click it.

6. Go to where it says "Type" on the "Edit Model" screen, and pick the type of model you just loaded into the application, in this case, PMX. Usually there's no need to use the Normal Material Render Style* or Transparent Material Render Style* sections. Description and preview thumbnail are also completely optional if desired.

7. Click apply, then OK, then afterward your 3D model should be imported into the DesktopMan application, double click our newly Installed 3D model and if everything has gone accordingly, we should see our little friend here walking and doing random stuff on the screen, success!

If you have grown up with technology this should be a pretty simple process, but for people who are unfamiliar with these kind of applications I do hope I have helped with this tutorial. Cheers!

(NOTE: After following this tutorial DO NOT upload 3D models to the Steam Workshop you DID NOT make, unless you get permission from the original artist himself to do so.)

I just added a note in one section of this guide as a result from this issue, just so no one else runs into a similar problem. Thanks for pointing it out though.

sorry for late response, I think fbx might be a bit fennicky with this app in this case, I know ive tried using fbx models before with this app and it's usually given me some problems. however pmx works fine for me almost every time. I could look up the requested models you want but its just as easy as doing a google search. Sorry if i cant be of much help otherwise. maybe a future update could fix the fbx tool. I just hope it's still in development.

Im not quite sure i understand what you're asking. If you want free models id use deviantart or similar sites to find them, if you have a model already downloaded and it doesnt seem to work after trying this guide out it could be an issue with the model itself and not something on your end.
