The Ultimate Campaign Traits Cheats Guide
By MaxLeveled
How to add traits to characters in the Grand Campaign

This guide will mainly focus on generals, but will also include traits for diplomats, spies, assassins, and more.

I was sick of having to tab out while looking for traits each time, so I made this guide so I can just use Steam Overlay.
Same reason I wrote a program to respond to my coworker's emails, I don't like small inconveniences.

The Console
To access cheats in the campaign, just press the ~ or ` key above the Tab key. This will open the console window in the corner of your screen.
Modding Traits

We're going to make our general Vibius a better commander. Start by selecting him.
---------------------------------------------
Load up the console,
Then you can type:
"give_trait this GoodCommander 5"
-
----------------------------------
Reviewing Characters
Once you've added a trait with the command, you can review your changes under stats>traits.
Vibius is now "Vibius the Mighty" and has +5 command from the "GoodCommander 5" trait.
The give_trait command
There are some quirks using this command.

Traits have different levels to them, between 1-6.

GoodCommander has 1-5, while GoodFarmer only has 1-3.

Typing "give_trait GoodFarmer 6" will not automatically give you the 3rd level of GoodFarmer.
You need to know which level is the max level in order to apply the trait.

You can also remove traits

For example if you have a general with BadCommander 3, which has -3 Command, you can type:
"give_trait this BadCommander -1" which will remove the trait.

You can give traits without selecting the character
If you know the name of a character, instead of selecting them and then typing "this", replace it with their name. You need quotation marks for characters with two names. Underscores are needed for character with three names. Single named characters do not need quotation marks.

The cheats are nice, however it diminishes the challenge to the game. I use it instead for the following:
1. Add traits to get better offspring chances, ie Fertilty and better traits upon adulthood, ie Intelligent or Handsome.
2. Add buildings which grant good traits, ie Military or Trade Academies to help Generals and Agents get better traits. And Thieves or Assassins Guild for subterfuge traits. Some buildings can cure bad traits such as some health or mental problems, ie a Hospital.
3. Add buildings which help attract ancillaries to Agents and Generals such as above.
4. Alter Trait triggers to give better chances for the good traits to be granted to Agents and Generals.

These things make the game a challenge and give some hope for your characters.

Why are some characters not recognised by the game? Like Placus the Horseman.
Works with some characters and not with others. Thanks.

There's a way you can modify the game files to give your faction all the beneficiary traits automatically (and remove all negative traits). And it's achievement compatible!

I'm tempted to write a guide on how to do it, but I'm kinda lazy. I've written some scripts to do this process (semi) automatically.

ya know, you should rewrite the command part. You can simply have the mouse over a unit and type "give_trait "this" (trait) without the parentisis gives the trait to whoever ur hovering over. can even give Ai traits using :this"

a great general in the ancient world needs sons. Just as Germanicus and his son 'Litle boots'
Alexander336BC 26 Nov, 2022 @ 2:56pm
what about male offspring?
