Introduction
In this guide I shall show you how to stay alive for a long period of time, what food to eat and what food not to eat, how to use the guns efficiently, how to use the hatchet effectively, how to cook game, and other useful things, using really badly made pictures.

Happy reading!
Food
Food is something you might find Very useful. It can keep you from being hungry, allow you to regenerate health, and keeps you from starving once you get hungry enough!
----
----
----
----
Real food
Marmalade, pickled eggs, bread, mints.
Some of the many things you'll find out there.
If you find tinned pie (I think it's called that) KEEP IT. That stuff takes up basicaly no space and restores a HUGE amount of vitality.

----
----
----
----
Dubious food
Dead rats, Rotten/mouldy food, bad eggs, all this stuff is bad.
There ARE a few dubious items that are good for eating. (Example: cat food)
DO NOT EVER USE A PIPE AND TOBACCO. It reduces your vitality by 50.

((Tip: It is best to keep a track of what dubious items are good, and what are bad, keep a piece of paper and pen/pencil handy.))
----
----
----
----
Game and raw meat

Game is found either lying on the ground or running (or flying) around you.
It can be collected simply enough, pheasants and rabbits are the best (and probably the only) game. Can be done with either a hatchet or a gun, traps work also, but not very effective as they are best used on robots (see weapons and how to use them).
Raw meat is also found occasionally, normally on robots but sometimes elsewhere.
It has to be cooked before it can be eaten (See cooking)
----
----
----
----
Alchohol

This is a very dangerous type of consumable, it does give a LOT of vitality, however it makes you "drunk", making your vision sway and blur, your aim go very crazy, and generally makes everything harder, Do not use around enemies unless you know you are safe.

----
----
----
----
Cooking
Some meat (Game and raw meat) has to be prepared before it is eaten.
This is tricky as it requires matches (see useful items) and a campfire. (see locations)
To cook, simply find a campfire, use it, then use matches, and it is lit, quickly use all of your uncooked meat and game before it goes out and make a quick run for it, as robots will see the smoke for miles around.
((Tip: Search the area before cooking unless you really need food.))
Robots and How to fight them
In this section you shall discover every type of robot there is to find as of this moment.

----
----
The hunter

Strength in numbers, these guys normally travel in packs of 3-5, but can be as little as one or as much as 10, though this is a rare occurance and normally only happens when guarding a town of amazing items.
Distinctively seen wearing a top hat and with a shotgun, easily heard by their unmissable bleeping sounds. They do have tougher leaders on occasion that have different clothing.
The best way to get away from these guys are to get over a hedge, fence or wall, then crawl over to the nearest amount of heavy foliage and wait for them to give up on finding you.

How to combat them?
The best way to deal with these guys is with a hatchet, dodge around strafing from their bullets (Which by the way is very easy) untill they reload (They only have two shots per round), once this happens, run up and hit them, they will start to back away at a moderate speed upon being hit by any weapon.
It takes around 2-4 shots to kill them with a revolver, 1-2 (depending on range) with a shotgun, instantly with a blunderbuss as long as you get it right 2 hits with a hatchet, and 1-2 shots with a rifle (depending on your accuracy)
----
----
----
----
Hunting dog

These guys are really annoying, they'll bark when they notice you, along with randomly now and then, (Which is really easy, their hearing and sight is double the normal hunter's) then they'll run up to you and knock you over, causing you to bleed(?) and immobilizing you for a good few seconds.
They're normally found around larger hunting groups, and about five of them with the Landowner.

How to combat them?
They take a single shot from any weapon, use the revolver if possible.
----
----
----
----
Balloons

Annoying blighters, these guys fly high, harmless alone but don't be fooled, they have a searchlight, if they find you, an alarm will sound and the light will turn red, if this happens, RUN FOR YOUR LIFE As every robot in the area will come running.
They can be heard for quite a while with a distinct sound, I can't really describe it but you'll know it when you hear it, it sounds kind of like a blimp, I guess.

How to combat them?
They are taken down pretty easily, there's a hunter on the top, I don't know if he can be taken out, but he has no gun, and the light can be broken with a shot from any gun ((Tip: Keep clear of these guys, and don't use the shotgun on them))

UPDATE!: Recently I have discovered they can repair the lights after a short period of time, so it's only a temporary solution guys, shoot the driver too if you want it gone!
----
----
----
----
Squires

These guys are chubby fellows that act as a 'peacekeeper' in some towns, armed with a revolver they are an assured drop if killed, and won't attack unless provoked.
They wear a red jacket with yellow/blue undershirt, they also have a distinctive sound of a deep robotic voice, often singing some old British song (e.g. Brittania rules the waves), and coming up to violence saying "what's going on here then?" and you pretty much can't miss them, they're the fattest guys in the game.
Recently I have heard rumours of when Squires get into a Robot fight they will then shoot anything they come across, Robot or Human!

How to combat them?
These guys won't attack unless you;
A): Loot a building while they can see you
B): Hurt them in any way
C): Start a fight with other robots (unconfirmed)
They take a lot of damage but they're easy to dodge, as they don't have much in the way of firepower.
----
----
----
----
Poachers

Sneaky little things, these guys have a distinctive sound that sounds like a Star Wars Jawa, the woods aren't safe, watch for traps.
They're armed with the mighty blunderbuss, they seem to spend a while aiming however, but the gun is the loudest thing you'll ever hear in this game, and can deal arond 50 damage.
Always found in the woods unless lured out.

How to combat them?
They're not hard to take down as long as you get them to miss their first shot, not sure how many hits.
----
----
----
----
Kraken
RELEASE THE KRAKEN

These guys shoot out of the water whenever you're near it, they'll kill you very quickly and they don't take kindly to people.
While crossing water may be a good way to lose robots, it's not the safest one.

How to combat them?
You don't, these guys (as far as I know) don't die, however they appear and dissapear, so they're not an extreme danger, doesn't mean you shouldn't be cautious, though.
----
----
----
----
Rider
These guys are fast.

REALLY FAST.
They fly around on a huge horse (with rockets instead of legs) and charge at you whenever they see you.
They'll play a funny trumpet music just before they charge, so listen out.

How to combat them?
They're tough, shoot, let them charge, shoot again, keep doing this untill they're dead.
----
----
----
----
Scarecrow
The weeping angels of Sir, these guys appear randomly in fields and if you get close enough they will hunt you down forever, they're harmless but they will alarm enemies of your prescence.

How to combat them?
It's impossible to do so without a hatchet, if you have one, just run up and hit them as much as you can, otherwise, stare at them then walk away backwards, still looking at them, untill they ignore you.
----
----
----
----
Landowner
Unmistakeable.

These guys are huge, HUGE. They can step over fences/walls/hedges, and they make a huge foghorn-like sound that can be heard for quite far around, they have around 5 dogs with them.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

How to combat them?
You don't, these guys are unkillable, just run.

I probably missed some vital enemy, let me know if I have.
Robots in Multiplayer
The spawns are a lot higher in this mode, but can be changed on world creation.

The Hunter
Expect to see more of the blighters now, if you stick with your friends you could have one make a distraction while the others take them out with a hatchet or other weapons.
If your friends are in fact foes then you might easily lose your pursuing fellow human by hiding around a group of them, or even throwing a distraction in the direction of your pursuer.

Hunting Dog
These buggers are now more common, but they are quite easier to deal with due to being only able to pin down one person at a time (per dog, of course) and their tendency to group on one player, meaning a distraction is easy to make.
I don't know if it still exists but there used to be a bug where if the dog is shot dead while jumping you, the corpse will stick to you and continue the animation harmlessly for a long time.

Balloon
About as common as before really, there really isn't much different about the balloon in multiplayer except some bugs that I have no idea whether or not they have been patched, where the light being shot out doesn't count server-wide and lights sometimes going to different places for different people.

Squire
There are some things I don't quite know about the Squire in multiplayer, in singleplayer, as you probably read, he'll go after you if he sees you stealing from something. The thing about multiplayer is that I have no idea if this is different between multiple people, will confirm on a later date. Otherwise, these guys are pretty much the same.

Poacher
These guys are a lot more pesky in Multiplayer, you'll often find yourself running through the woods to escape the much higher spawns of robots or pursuing Humans in this mode, meaning the Poacher can have his prey much easier.
While teaming with friends can make this guy an easier target because if one gets trapped the other can help, if there are unfriendly players around getting trapped by this guy is the worst thing that can happen.

Scarecrow
I don't know much about the Scarecrow in Multiplayer, whether just one player can look at them and be safe or if you all have to, otherwise he seems to be the same.

Rider
These guys seem to spawn a lot more often in Multiplayer, of course still at later stages, but they come a lot more often and can pin down multiple targets at once, if you and your friends spread out you can potentially take them out easier as the Rider mostly consists of charging attacks.

Landowner
To my knowledge multiple Landowners cannot spawn in Multiplayer but it is known that he comes a bit earlier on and can potentially be more of a threat due to still being invincible and being lured by an unfriendly player over to your nice tea party with your best friend.

The Kraken is not even worth mentioning as it's exactly the same.
Those few that will help you
These fellows will aid you as much as they can, pay attention and it could save your life.

Walter the Butler

Nobody knows what this guy looks like, but it's likely you'll already have "met" him, he'll give you tips and information as best he can, but slightly discreetly, it's his job as a butler not to tell you what to do, while still helping.

Wisps

Little blue fairy things, these guys are under-appreciated helpful ones that will guide you the scenic route to a fragment, if you see more than one it's likely they're leading you to different ones, try not to follow two at once unless their route is very similar.
Weapons and how to use them
In this section you shall dicover weapons and learn how to use them in combat.
You will either start with weapons if you choose to or find them in houses.

The Hatchet
One of the best weapons, this little guy is a melee weapon that'll deal with most enemies in but a few blows, its only downfall is that melee means you have to run up and hit them, which isn't always the safest way of doing things.

How should I use them?
They're better when used in a surprise attack, you can take out a large pack if you're good enough and have enough cover (Hiding in a small rock crevice and picking them off one by one is a great tactic), Run up and hit them, dodge the shots, kill one, and make sure you don't get hit.

The revolver
A pistol for some, these little ones create the least noise and have lots of ammo in one round, but are slow to reload, not very much power and don't have an amazing range.
The easiest way to get these guys is to take down a Squire, assured chance.

How should I use them?
Shoot to kill! Aim for the head using right click and try not to miss! Ammo is precious.
These guys don't have amazing range or power, so every shot counts with this little guy.

The shotgun
These guys are most commonly acquired from Hunters but CAN be acquired from buildings! (Thanks to Bossa Nova Ducks for this info!)
High power and easy to get, but short range and not much ammo, this weapon is one hell of a gun, only two shots a round you got to make sure you don't miss, as much as with any gun.

How should I use them?
Shoot to kill! Aim with right click and get as close as possible, close range is a shotgun's best point, and reloading is a pain as with any gun, so try not to miss!

The rifle
The game's equivelent of a sniper rifle, this gun has an extremely high range, good accuracy and high power, but ammo is scarce, it can only have one shot at a time and it's hard to find one, it's a bad idea to use this weapon at close range, it's better to run.

How should I use them?
Shoot to kill! Stay at range and use right click to aim, try to take them down before they get to you, and if they do, switch to another weapon or run!
Imagine it's a sniper rifle.

The blunderbuss
This guy's as powerful as its ammo is scarce, it's got probably the longest reload time, not much range and it's the loudest gun in the game, only for extreme situations.

How should I use them?
Get up close, aim with right click and KABLAMO
Don't miss if you're going to use this weapon, ammo is VERY hard to get.

Traps and dynamite

Traps are set up very simply, put them on the ground and drop some sort of distraction, then run and hit them to death, picked up again from the ground using plyers.
Dynamite, now I actually have no idea how to use this, my guess is you use it, drop it then get them to go over it while you run for your life.

Good hunting!

Locations
In this section you'll be educated in the few types of biomes there are, and a few useful types of buildings.
These locations can be set to each island on map creation, along with the spawn rate of enemies.

Rural
The central island is always rural, this area is simply put, a grassy area with a few forests, a field or two maybe, and lots of towns, LOTS OF TOWNS.

Fens
Mainly this place is just water and plants, there'll be a few buildings here and there, this kind of island is mainly for easy fragments and epic battles, beware though, this is the poacher's favourite.

Mountains
A lot of hills and few buildings, this place is fun to be in but it's got a lot of enemies.
The large amount of elevation and rocks can make for useful hiding spots however.

Industrial
This place really puts the victorian into this game, it's riddled with pollution, small working towns, wind turbines, power lines, and canals, I'm told that this place is best for finding weapons.
The towns have a lot of buildings cramped together, it's easy to miss doors here.

Castle
The most recent of all the biomes, this place has a few buildings but a lot of scenery, along with a -lot- of robots.
And of course, there are castle ruins everywhere, one of the best locations to find maps.

Buildings (and a campfire)

Inns

Often complete with a campfire, this place seems to always be called "The Robotic Arms", They are quite often filled with goodies.

Campfires
For cooking food, these are found here and there around the land, spotted by their smoke, don't mistake that smoke for fragments, folks!

Churches
Randomly placed around on rural and mountain/fern areas, they seem to be the most common place for alchohol, and other useful items are often hidden in there.

Manor Houses
Usually found on their own, these buildings have a whopping three doors on them meaning high storage capacity if you want to hide your items and higher chance for good loot!
Multiplayer information
Multiplayer is when you can play with your friends or random people on online servers with only small changes to actual gameplay.

Robot Spawns
As before mentioned, Robot spawns are much higher unless set otherwise on map creation in this gamemode, be careful.

Friend or foe?
If you are on a public server rather than with your friends, there can be the issue of people who are not going to be your best friend in the whole wide world. The game can only be won by one player in the end of the game, so even if you are playing with your most trusted friend don't expect there not to be a little Player v Player combat at the end, as the last fragment returned will win you the game, and only you.

Fragments and the standing stones
Fragments can only be placed in the standing stones when they emit a very clear glow, there is a countdown on your screen to the next "activation" of the standing stones, and is usually around ~5min, but be sure that no robots are around as the Standing Stones are no safe haven.
Unless they changed it since I last played, there is only one island in Multiplayer and so the fragments are all over the place, also meaning a slightly larger island.
You can if you want also stash fragments in houses and such to wait for the next activation.
A working tactic is you stash a certain large amount of fragments in houses at a time and wait for an activation, then place them all in at once, and win the game.
The counter to this tactic is that houses are very often searched and Robots might show up to guard them, along with the fact that Scanners can pick up when fragments are stashed like this.

Respawning
Respawning is possible in this gamemode, don't worry 100% about dying, if you had fragments on you and they are not looted before your corpse despawns they will return to their spawn point.

Hosting
Here's a link on how to host servers by the official makers of the game!

Useful items
In this section you'll learn about a lot of very useful items that'll help you survive.

Torch
Not common, but not rare, these guys are useful but difficult to use wisely, be careful with these, their purpose is obvious, use it and it gives off light, and makes you very visible.

Matches
These are used to light campfires, you can either find a set with one use, or one with multiple uses, I don't know if multiple use ones are unlimited or how limited they are if they aren't.

Plyers
These are used to remove traps from the ground, pretty simple really.

Alarm clocks
Right click to change how long it is untill they go off, albeit from 5 seconds to 60, then drop them with left click, and sneak off, very useful distraction.

Train sets
Distraction, right click to change between static (on a circular track) or moving (goes off in a straight line), very noisy, don't stay near the result.

Rocks and glass bottles
Thrown distractions, the rock has a longer range but is quiet, the glass bottle is a louder one that doesn't go as far.

Rags
You might find yourself bleeding after combat, if you are, use one of these or face a horrible death by blood loss.
Shortcut: H

Scanners
Make noise, but show you the location of fragments at a pretty decent range.
Other usefull stuff
Here are some other useful things that don't belong anywhere else.

Fragments
You should know this if you have played the game, run around, look for smoke, grab the fragment, run home. Repeat.

Robot fights

When there's a large group of robots (usually hunters) a fight breaking out is inevitable, if you see one happen, wait for it to be over and loot the corpses, best way of finding a weapon.

Walls, bushes and fences
They may not look like much, but these inanimate objects can save lives, simply jump over them then hide, you're safe. Probably.

Animals
"The eyes and ears of local Fauna -might- be sharper than your own.." -Walter
Seen a running animal and you know you didn't scare it?
HIDE. It's likely that there are enemies coming for you!

Bins and barrels
Always check them, never know what you'll find.
Thanks for reading!
This guide has been improved many times with hours of work and most recently improved for Multiplayer :D

In my opinion, the Poacher is not a poacher, he's a Gamekeeper, an employee of the Owner. He's not setting out traps, he's putting out man-traps for YOU. Mantraps were made illegal in England sometime in the 19th Century, but some tyrannical old bastards kept on doing it. In my other opinion, the noise the Gamekeeper makes is his effort to sing an old English country song; the jerky rhythm and tune sounds like one of those songs, like "The Kerry Dancers." The noise he makes when he sees you is "Coo-ee!" which I have seen in old English novels about bird watching, butterfly-hunting, Girl Guides, etc., it's a call that carries well at a distance, but it was quickly satirized as namby-pamby or sissy by people who weren't into that stuff.

I think I notice in the single player game a short period of time immediately after you arrive on an island before any robots spawn. I sometimes have been able to run full speed from the boat dock to the standing stones, make my deposit, save game, and back to the dock without meeting any opposition.

Also, I have never been noticed or attacked by anything while on the dock. It seems to be like a refuge.

Fragments give off white smoke, campfires give off black smoke.

Ah, interesting, I was going by what I'd heard on that one, thanks for the info

About that balloon... it is actually invincible. The pilot is just there for appearances. Even if you shoot him out, the light will still repair itself and the balloon will continue unhindered. However, the pilot may carry loot, so it may be worth it anyway.

eh the MOST annoing in this game that i fined will be THOSE LANDOWNERS

WHY ARE THEY IMMORTAL
AnnaWarcraft  [author] 22 Feb, 2016 @ 9:10am
Spawn rates are based on your fragments found or hours spent in the game I'm pretty sure.
STONED_2 21 Feb, 2016 @ 11:24pm
Every Rider I have killed has a map. Scarecrow has a pumpkin thats edible upon death. Also, I've used a The Robotic Arms as storage for my gear, since it was close to where I bring fragments. But since loading it up ( 2 doors close to each other, so it was great), the spawn rate of hunters went from 4 to 15.

Seems the spawn rate is related to gear found. Im thinking of using map and spacing out gear. Really sucks when I want to reload my backpack with food and rags. Gotta fight my way back to my own stuff

i believe theres a special sound track that plays when theres a poacher nearby (i could be wrong) its distiguishing feature is a "uh" making the beat? i'm not sure but anyones gud guide
UTTER ELECTRON SACRIFICE 9 Jan, 2016 @ 5:58am
The matchboxes are infinite and you cannot stop a balloon by shooting the 'pilot' out. The light will still repair, even if there's nobody to repair it, and it will still detect you.
