LOVE 3 ALL SECRETS + Other Achievements (spoiler light)
By Bun
This is a guide for all secrets necessary to get the all secrets and secret ending achievements for LOVE 3's set of levels. Note that this guide does contain spoilers for the location of secrets, but I did my best to keep as little of the actual secret scenes visible in any of the screenshots; they are meant to lead you to the location, not reveal the events! That said, this guide is best understood by people who have finished the game at least once and are now looking for all secrets and may need some help for some of the more obscure ones - I highly suggest checking this guide after having at least gotten the normal ending.

Intro + General Tips
Hello! Just as a bit of an intro to this guide, I've expanded it from all LOVE 3 secrets to a 100% achievement guide. All screenshots and info were collected and written by me, but of course this would all not be possible without the work of Fred Wood (and everyone else who helped make LOVE 3). I want to keep this guide relatively spoiler free to respect the work put into this game, so I avoid showing major secret scenes, the secret ending, and any other well-hidden things. That said, I do show/guide the player to locations of secret tokens and such, so I suggest only giving this guide a peek if you feel stuck trying to 100% this game. Also, for anyone who would like to translate this guide to any other language, feel free to take and modify this guide in ANY way you like in doing so! As a courtesy, I would appreciate that if you do so, to credit me in some capacity. I also ask that you keep your guide open to the same rules of free copy/modification for the purpose of translation.

  • There is one major secret in each level (with the exception of level 18 and 19 which have two secrets each, more on this below) usually with multiple steps to finding them, typically platforms or parts on the wall you need to touch or get near. This is usually met with some sort of clicking sound and a small visual change from black to white in a few pixels. If you notice these things occurring, that means you're on the right track to finding a secret.
  • Each major secret typically involves a small scene playing out once you collect it - if you see the scene play out in a level, that means you've definitely collected it and are ready to move on to the next.
  • In order to get the secret ending, you need to collect each level's major secret in a full playthrough from start to finish. Be sure you don't autopilot and play through any levels normally without picking up a secret!
  • (ADDED INFO) It might be useful to check your secret count on the pause menu before you exit a level. From levels 1 to 17, you should find ONE secret each. On level 18 you need to find two secrets, so you should exit with a count of 19. On level 19, you also find two secrets, thus you should exit with a count of 21 secrets indicated on the pause menu. Note that these ones are strangely indicated, because they are NOT extra scenes! For some reason, levels 18 and 19 have a "part 1/part 2" process to the secret count, but you will still know you got both with certainty if you see a small scene play when you collect the final step.
  • (ADDED INFO) Remember that if you make a mistake or go too far into a level, you can always reset a level to the very beginning! For some secrets, this might reset their progress as well, so make sure to keep note of that if you do end up needing to do a level reset.
Vague Hints
Here's a section for folks who might want a vague worded location/object based hint without being directly guided.

Level 1:
Check the area just after the platforms that carry you up. You're looking for platforms that click, in a particular order.

Level 2:
Check the upper half of the level, you want to mess with the platform you can move manually.

Level 3:
Look near the exit for a place to "jump rope" and then backtrack.

Level 4:
Check dead ends in the water section, then look carefully at the top of the map again.

Level 5:
At the top of the level from a safety platform, look closely at the white kill zone "floor".

Level 6:
Pay attention to what happens when you land on each safety platform - don't miss any!

Level 7:
There are two unique platforms and a dead end to explore, then look a little past the exit.

Level 8:
Check as much of the floor/platforms as you can in the area with the LARGE spinning wheel. You're looking for three clicks.

Level 9:
Touch one of the switches, then go the opposite direction you would expect. Then look closely for any changes in the level.

Level 10:
In the section with the "Donkey Kong barrels" touch as much of the floor as possible. In the section immediately after, you want to touch one more platform, but do not fall into the next section; the secret is somewhere in this zone.

Level 11:
This one is very hidden, but all of the "clicks" are in the upper half. Then, you want to return to the bottom.

Level 12:
You want to touch four buttons that only appear when pressed sequentially - you want to make sure you have a spawn point around where the orbs spin around a single platform.

Level 13:
Destroy as much as you can, and look around.

Level 14:
Check many dead ends. Two near the start, two found by flying. Then, see what is different near the end.

Level 15:
Pay attention to what happens near the exit if you try to finish early.

Level 16:
You are looking for 5 clicks, around the level. Look in the black space of the level platforms for "+" shapes.

Level 17:
You want to click two platforms, then go to the exit but do NOT leave. See if anything different happens near the edge of the exit, and play carefully!

Level 18:
Play the level like normal until you find a helicopter - look for unique and fragile walls up above and down below.

Level 19:
You are looking for black squares, done in a sequential order. This one is tricky - you have to be quick near the end (but can try as many times as you need).

Level 20:
Look for empty space in the walls. New jump pads will spawn when events are triggered; use those.

Level 21:
There are many safety platforms that click 3 times each - be diligent! Then check down below, close-ish to the exit.

Level 22:
You are looking for black squares once again! This is all doable in the first half or 2/3 of the level.

Level 23:
Find some breakable platforms again, and ride the helicopter as far as you can! Then check near the bottom again.

Level24:
Find a way to make a "!" appear early in the level. Then play normally, but do not jump down into the newly opened area - you're looking for a hidden wall again after you touch the switch.
Detailed Guide (Part 1, Levels 1-12)
Here's the section to look at if you just want to see exactly where to go:

Level 1:
Touch these platforms in the order shown (middle, bottom, top) (EDIT: corrected screenshot)

Then, return to this platform and take a leap of faith to the lower left. Set a spawn point to try multiple times.

From here on out, you should find the secret easily!

Level 2:
Get the moving platform to the farthest left position.

Now, move the ball along it - if you mess up, it will respawn to try again.

Now go along the level like normal until you find this hidden zone - the secret is here!

Level 3:
Near the end of the level, you want to follow these bullets into this small corridor.

Next, you want to "jump rope" on this section 5 times until the bullets stop spawning. You do not need to do this all in one go, but if you do, you can nab yourself an extra achievement.

Now you want to backtrack your way through the level again until you find this newly opened section! If you've set your spawn point in a convenient location you can do this much faster.

Level 4:
Near the end of the major water section there are two dead ends where two tokens appear - grab them.

Now, go back to the top and find this new small opening. The secret is down below within it!

Level 5:
This one is simple: Just look for this dotted area within the white kill zone, it's a secret path. The secret is down there!

Level 6:
In this level, you want to touch every one of these platforms, they all look the same and will click when you stand on them. Be sure not to miss any!

If you managed to step on ALL of the platforms, jump pads will spawn here. They lead to this level's secret!

Level 7:
You want to touch both of these platforms; the first one is early, the second one you can touch after the step seen below.

Go towards the dead end in the wrong direction after this descending Donkey Kong barrel section, to the left. Activate this black square here.

Now, go to the exit, but go above it - a newly opened section will be available to you here, and it will lead to the secret. EDIT/NOTE: when falling down the secret pit, you want to fall right down the MIDDLE section to ensure you get the secret. What you want to do is make a hard landing right in front of the exit, breaking the floor. The secret is below that broken floor.

Level 8:
You want to touch the very corner of this floor section here, you will hear a click.

Now, touch these two platforms.

A portal will appear in the second half of this room, leading to the secret!

Level 9:
Hold this button until the platform is all the way down - then go in the opposite direction. A token will appear, grab it quickly! It will despawn if the button timer expires.

Now, enter this newly opened section in the water potion, it will lead to this level's secret.

Level 10:
Touch the top section of the floor in each of these slanted floors.

Then, touch the far 4th platform. Once you click this, a button will appear on the top platform, creating a jump pad that leads to the secret.

Level 11:
At the very top of the level, touch this platform.

Next, descend a bit again to touch this platform.

Now, ascend again, and these panels will light up on the wall here. Ride across them all.

Finally, descend all the way to the bottom again, and enter this small pit here - it leads to the secret!

Level 12:
Set a spawn point here.

Make a blind jump to the right until you land on this platform here.

Now jump to the left, and find this small pit here; a button will have spawned here since you touched the first.

Now respawn, and complete this section of the level to find the third button.

Finally, advance through the level until you find the 4th and final button. A portal will appear, leading you to this level's secret after a small Megaman-like disappearing platform challenge.
Detailed Guide (Part 2, Levels 13-24)
Level 13:
The goal of this section is to destroy ALL of the white blocks. Make sure to destroy some of the more easily missable ones such as these:

Once you do that, you should hear a unique sound, meaning this token has appeared here: Grab it.

Now, move your way to the right side of the level again, and enter this newly opened section; the secret is behind here.

Level 14:

From spawn, hug the wall into these two sections here, and make your way to the side until you hear a click in each.

From here, set a spawn point. You're going to click two more sections to the left (then up), and up above (going down and then up again). I don't have images for each, but you're looking for four vertical dots like the other two clicks.

Now, proceed through the level until you find this newly opened section. Navigate your way through for this level's secret.

Level 15:
For this secret you need to complete any ONE of the four sections. I personally find this one the easiest since it is fast and closest to the secret.

Notice the newly spawned boost pad; what you want to do is ride it, then quickly reverse your direction around that triangular bit...

...and land here. The secret lies ahead!

Level 16:
Here, you're looking for 5 "+" signs that light up one section at a time. The first is here.

Then here...

And the last three are all in this section.

After that, drop into this pit, the secret is below!

Level 17:
Touch these two platforms, then complete the level normally, but do NOT exit.

Set a spawn point here, the hazards should reverse direction. You MUST do this all in one take, so I highly advise setting your spawn point before attempting this.

A portal will open here, leading to the secret.

Level 18:
Play the level like normal until the very end - crash your helicopter here, and then grab another one and grab the token at the end of this section. NOTE: This counts as one secret on the pause menu!

A portal will lead you back here - now crash the helicopter into this lower section multiple times over until you reveal the location of the secret - ride a helicopter to the end, and now you've got it! This counts as a second secret on the pause menu; if you pause your game and you see "19/29 Secrets" you've collected all so far.

Level 19:
Touch this black square here.

Then head backwards and touch this one here to the left.

Now advance through the level, and touch this final black square.

Head backwards once again to see these new jump platforms, use them.

Hop along and grab this token. This counts as one secret on the pause menu counter.

Now, prepare yourself to make a very tight fall, you have to do this section very quickly! (You can try as many times as you need). Basically, you need to fall JUST as the big square starts going back again, fall into this lower section here, and book it, do not let go holding right once you're down here. You'll fall into the secret zone.

Here's a second screenshot for clarity:

Level 20:
Play the level like normal until you reach this section, then fall down here.

You will activate this switch here.

Then, a little bit backwards, you're looking for this new jump pad to activate this switch; you only need to graze by it, not touch the wall.

A newly spawned jump pad further into the level will boost you right up into the secret area!

Level 21:
In this level, you want to touch EVERY platform with these small lights on the. You should hear three clicks each. I suggest doubling back and forth on each platform just to be sure you clicked the lights. They should go from all on to an alternating on-off pattern (from all white to black-white-black etc.)

Touch this final one here, and if you did everything right, you should hear a new sound.

Descend once again, and enter this zone here where the secret lies.

Level 22:
Here you're looking to activate three squares, here's the first.

Second.

And third. Once you do that, this secret path into the wall will open up to the right, hiding the secret.

Level 23:
Crash your ship on floor 69 into these breakable walls three times.

A new one will spawn. Use this ship to fly through the level precisely...

...until you reach the top. Hover the ship here (it's okay if you crash it) but do NOT set a spawn point up top or to the section to the lower left.

You want to return to the bottom, where this floor has revealed a secret - fly a ship into it! The secret's here.

Level 24:
Touch this wall here, near the start.

Then, complete the level like normal until you touch the button to open up the second half. DO NOT fall and set a spawn down below. It's easiest if you set a spawn point in the little ledge to the left there, but if you set your spawn between the two blades, you can shimmy your way below be booster into the water again with a precise jump below it. Go into the wall, and the final secret is here.

Congrats! All that's left is to finish the final level like normal and enjoy the secret ending by going into the floor below the button rather than leaving to the left.
Other Achievements Pt. 1 Progress Achievements
Basic Progress Achievements
For Safety, LOVE, and kuso, simply finish each game from the menu as they unlock.

Advanced Progress Achievements
Just a Scratch or Two, Gotta Go Fast, 13 Years in 69 Minutes, and Cautious Completionists all require you to finish the game in arcade mode or to beat the game fast.

TIP: You can acquire 13 Years in 69 Minutes and Cautious Completionists in the same run, if you feel capable of it.

NOTE: I am not sure if you can acquire 13 Years in 69 Minutes on both LOVE 1 + 2 + 3 and LOVE 1 + 2 + 3 remastered, so to be safe I suggest playing on the regular (non remastered) version - the achievement will unlock in this version with certainty! The same applies for やり甲斐.

For YOLO, you need to beat each LOVE 3 level deathless in training mode; you do not need to finish a deathless run from start to finish, thankfully! You also do not need to keep the YOLO check box ticked to acquire the YOLO medal in each level, however if you do check that box, you MUST choose "restart" from the menu on death, even if you set no checkpoints, otherwise it won't count.

I will NOT make a comprehensive speed strat guide, however, here's some general tips:
  • Practice each level in the Level Select a few times before committing to a run! This helps a lot. If you can get even double the fastest leaderboard time on each level, you're probably set to get 22 minutes in a full run.
  • Set checkpoint often! Better to die 10 times on a level but lose only 15 seconds than to die twice but lose a minute because they're too far back!
  • Slow and steady - Note that you have 22 minutes to beat LOVE 3, and 69 minutes to beat LOVE 1 + 2 + 3. An optimal speedrun of LOVE 3 is somewhere ~12 minutes, so there's plenty of room for mistakes. Don't panic if you make small mistakes on time saves worth only a few seconds here or there!
  • Once you're good enough to beat LOVE 3 in under 22 minutes, LOVE 1 + 2 + 3 in under 69 minutes will basically be a joke, it's more than enough time relative to the 22 alone for 3.
Other Achievements Pt. 2 Special Feats
Friendly Fire
Acquired on Level 13. Simply place your checkpoint in an unsafe location, and move a turret to fire on that spot.

Ball Dropper
Following the secrets guide for Level 2 above, get the ball on the platform and do everything you can to try to mistime and/or jostle it off - it just sort of happens randomly, and tends to happen on accident but can be hard to do intentionally. Just keep trying over and over until it eventually happens.

Longest Fall
There's plenty of levels you can do this on, although the easiest is arguably Level 11 - set a checkpoint here, use the jump pad to fall back down through this section, and take as many attempts as necessary to fall all the way down to the start - the achievement should trigger.

Frequent Flyer
This one is fairly self explanatory, but to reiterate, on Level 14, you must fly the first helicopter to the end in one shot. A general piece of advice is that you do not need to dodge over stationary (non-obstacle) helicopters (the ones you can enter) on your route - they have no hitbox while flying in another one, so you do not need to make a tight squeeze past them!

Jump Rope
You get this one for flawlessly acquiring the secret in Level 3, you must cross the barrier 5 times in a row without dying. You do not need to survive after that, the achievement will trigger automatically.

Threading the Needle
This one isn't too obscure, but to be sure, on Level 6 you must start here:

and end here without touching any ground inbetween - it may take a few tries, but it's easier than it seems as long as you set your checkpoint at the top:

Air Walker
This one is also self explanatory by the description, but here's a general bit of advice on where to start (Level 8):

and where to end:

Bork & Niko
To get this achievement (as well as an alternate route for the secret and the speedrun strat) Use this helicopter and go towards the exit. Once out on the open area, go up and to the left.
Other Achievements Pt. 3 100% LOVE and LOVE 2
This includes: Nostalgia, Where did I put my keys?, Charlie, and やり甲斐

To keep this guide simple, I'm going to avoid as much description as possible and ONLY show the levels in which there are invisible tokens (LOVE) or hard to find ones (LOVE 2). The rest are all plainly visible and quite hard to miss, so I won't bother pointing them out. Unlike LOVE 3, secrets in LOVE and LOVE 2 are simply about picking up one token in each level; there are no secret scenes or special conditions to find them, they are just single objects a little out of the way.

Nostalgia (LOVE)
Level 4:
Requires going into a hidden path within the wall.

Level 5:
Hidden until close.

Level 9:
Hidden until close.

Level 11:
Hidden until close. (and also a little out of the way, at the top of the level, go right instead of left)

Level 13:
Hidden until close.

Level 15:
Hidden until close.

NOTE: As a general rule, all of these tokens are similarly hidden in LOVE Remastered as well.

Where did I put my keys? + Charlie

Similar to LOVE, I consider most of these secrets fairly easy to spot (albeit maybe a little more out of the way) with the exception of the Charlie tokens, which are well hidden. As such, I will ONLY show the locations of the Charlie Tokens.

Level 2:
In the falling section of the level, find this broken section near one of the fans.

Level 4:
Just before exiting the level, fall down here:

Then fall and hug the wall on this checkerboard pattern segment - you'll go into the wall.

Level 14:
Set a checkpoint here, and don't set one farther down. If you mess up, to a full level reset.

Hug this chainlink wall near the top as you fall, you should go into it like this. The secret is beyond this point, climbing upward into the clouds.

Level 17:
From this point, you want to make a jump across to the left. The token is beyond that point. NOTE: don't set a checkpoint to the left, it is very hard to make the jump back to the exit from there (if not impossible).

Level 22:
Near the exit, you want to fall and hug the right wall, you'll find the final Charlie Token down below there.

Ah yep, it was the sneaky double secrets that got me. Somehow I missed the second part of level 18. Thanks for your reply, and for adding the other stuff!

ayyy this helped a lot! if you take a look on love 1+2+3 remastered leaderboards 100% in there now! all thanks to this guide :)

@Jepp if I'm not mistaken, both Level 18 and 19 have two secrets each, while the rest only have one, I'm still checking each level to be sure, but one of those two might be the one you're missing a step - try each level in Level Select on your normal routes and see if you get 100% Secrets on the end screen or not. If that ends up being the case, let me know which one you're missing and I'll add some clarification to the guide to help anyone else with the same issue!
Bun  [author] 20 Dec, 2021 @ 9:17am
@ Silverstop I'll add a few sections for other achievements and include Bork & Niko, sure!

@ Jepp I'll do some in depth testing to see what events actually trigger each secret, since most levels activate one, but two levels activate two, I just don't recall which ones.
Jepp 20 Dec, 2021 @ 2:10am
I've done this twice to be sure, but both times I had 25/26 secrets on level 25. Is the Bork & Niko secret required as well?
Silverstop 17 Dec, 2021 @ 4:59pm
could bork and nico be added to this guide?
