Verdun is an awesome game, and is one of few WW1 shooters such as WW1 source, a mod for half life 2.

Verdun is rather easy to learn, but it can be hard for new players to adapt to the new types of playstyles.

I would reccomend looking at the guide made by Dr. Medic, CaptainChaotika2, and [BW] Pringle
Not Dying
This section contains advice on not dying (duh). People that are used to playing Call Of Duty (do people still play COD?) will be very suprised to learn that they cannot use their normal COD tactics in Verdun. Warning: Some of the following tips are obvious

1. You CANNOT tank damage. Unless you get hit below the waist (I mean legs you perv), you will die from a rifle shot. Most players aim for chest/head shots. So if you're planning on taking a hit, prepare to be respawning a lot.

2. Keep your head down. Unless you're sprinting to a trench or charging another player, keep your head down. Ideally be taking cover in a trench or behind an object. People look for heads to find other players. Keep your head hidden unless you want to be sniped.

3. If you get shot and its not fatal (which means you got shot in the leg), then that means someone has you zeroed in. Go prone immediately and crawl to the nearest cover. Note that this applies if you haven't seen who shot you. If you do see who shot you, then return fire. (Duh)

4. If people die while throwing grenades, then the grenade is still live. If the grenade is near you, run! (Triple duh)
Getting Kills
This section is about getting kills. If you don't understand how the title of the section tells you what the section is about, please go back to school and learn to read. This guide will still be waiting when you get back :) There are no "quickscopes" in Verdun, don't even try, You'll embarrass yourself.

1. Aim for the chest/head. With a rifle, it takes 2 leg shots to get a kill, 1-2 chest shots depending on gun, or 1 head shot. With pistols/machine guns, I would assume that its also 1 head shot.

2. Steady your aim. Use left shift or whatever key you have assigned. This zooms in a little more and makes you drastically more accurate. If you hold your breath too long (steadying your aim), then you will be less accurate after. For this reason I reccomend steadying your aim when your ready to shoot, and releasing the key as soon as your done.

3. Find a good sniping spot. If you want to be technical, there is 1 sniper class. However, I personally believe that every player is kind of like a sniper without a scope. Your "sniping spot" should simply be a place where you have a good view of enemy positions.

4. "Is that a log or an enemy player?" I don't know. It could be either, or an enemy player hiding behind the log. (mind blown) When in doubt, shoot.
The Classes
I won't pretend to be an expert on the classes. I won't even pretend to know very much about them. I always pick a rifleman with a bayonet as my first choice, and a rifleman without a bayonet as my second choice. I'll add more to this section eventually, given that people like my guide.
Teamwork
Teamwork is essential to Verdun. (sorry COD fanboys, no lone wolf)

Communication:
There are 2 default chat keys: "Y is for everyone in map to see, and "U" is for your team. (I may be wrong about which keys they are...IDK) Communication is essential to capture trenches and to repel attacks from the other team.

The Map:
The community seems to have split maps into 3 sections: Center, Left Flank, and RightFlank. Its very obvious what they mean, but I had to say it.

Leadership:
Your leader can give orders apparently. Follow them.

NCO:
"The NCO aura does many things, for example if there is no save spawnpoint (such as a shellhole or a distinct point in a trench ) inside it then no one will be able to spawn on you. You capture lines faster and get additional points for doing so if you stay inside it. Some abilities are related to it, for example the heavyweight of the gunner does not allows him only to sprint inside the aura when he has a mg, the recon squads have longer sprint times as long as they are inside it, the Observateur/Überwacher's ability to reveal enemies is only activated when inside the aura etc.pp."

Sir, I hate to tell you but you are entirely wrong about this being the only ww1 based shooter. You forget, nor probably didn't know about, WW1:Source, the quintessential ww1 shooter in the last 10 years. The fanbase is dedicated, the mod is beloved and there is constantly new maps being made and game modes being developed by the community

WW1SOURCE is a mod for hl2 and a multiplayer shooter fun to play and similar to verdun.

Red Orchestra 2 in WW1 setting and better graphics due to game being more recent. I am still torn as to whether buy it or not - I would have bought it already if it had Russian infantry squad, as well
