Description
UPDATE: From now on the fake infection will trigger only when player is hit by a zombie. No more freaking out you're gonna turn after jumping through window or stepping on a glass shard with naked foot.

Are you sick of (pun intended) figuring out you're infected two in-game hours after that one unfortunate scratch, because you set infection progression to span across 1-2 weeks for a reason? Want a few tense days instead of instant knowledge of your health? Or maybe you want mods that allow you to test yourself for zombie virus to actually be useful? Whatever the reason, this mod is exactly for you.

What does this mod do? It simply starts a fake infection every time you receive scratch, laceration or bite. This "infection" will progress till some arbitrary threshold (randomized for each injury you suffer), after crossing of which it will gradually fade away. Of course if you really get infected the real infection will continue uninterrupted, but this way you can only know it's over after prolonged period of feeling unwell if the symptoms refuse to go away for a long time.

Combines well with Antibodies and the ability to diagnose. Makes it so, with the lack of diagnosis, one must care for themselves in general, and with diagnosis, able to know when to slow down and help your body fight off the virus - and most importantly, not quit as soon as I get bit.

How this mod could work if fake infection didn't trigger on bites? Every type of zombie-related wound is included.

hey Stormtrooper, just curious - from your previous comments am I to believe that fake infections will trigger on any wound, inlcuding bites? I know that seems unnecessary for most, but I'm using another mod that turns bite infection into a coin toss, and it seems like this gem would compliment it perfectly. Just looking for conformation, tyty

You don't have to be responsible for the players who use this MOD.

Given I stopped playing the game like a year ago and now would have to basically re-learn Zomboid modding to do anything meaningful I'm honestly surprised it is still alive and haven't blown up already (my mod, I mean...) thanks to the game updates. Maybe some day I'll return to both playing and modding...

Anyways, once something blows up in one of my mods eventually I guess you can just complain in the comments, I'll see the notifications and probably sooner or later will try to fix that.

This feature should be in the vanilla version of the game, minus the sickness. Since none of my traits makes me anxious, I can always tell that I have the zombie virus from anxiety alone that I hope they add fake anxiety triggers at some point.

Then go ahead. Scratch, laceration and bite will trigger fake infection no matter what.
