This guide will teach you techniques and tricks, which can change radically your gameplay. Be warned. The 2nd chapter - which is the actual MAIN PART of this guide - contains techniques, which have the potential to spoil the fun with the game, or make it boring for you, though not neccessarily.

If your game becomes too easy by applying these techniques, remember that you can always make your game more challenging, by selecting and combining harder runes.

However, if you want to gain great experience, have item drops with amazing traits and be able to destroy even enemies, which are impossible to beat by damaging them, this guide is for you! This may lead to spending tens or hundreds of hours of additional gameplay though.

You've been warned!

Chapter 1: The Dungeon Master's Quick-Tips
This chapter is a collection of loose tricks and strategies I learned and collected throughout the game, with my gameplay goals (gaining the best items, lots of gems, beat the most levels, gain a lot experience etc.).

Generic Quick-Tips & Strategies

Head for the higher tier maps, to gain more XP and higher tier items quickly.

It can be worth to do some lower tier maps, if you are willing to put the time and effort in. Some lower tier maps may allow for reaching amazing XP.

Simply stop using the permanent runes, except the "increase map tier by 2" rune! Really, while it is easy to use the permanent runes, it will get you usually the worst result and waste time and resources, especially once mid-game and after gaining tens of thousand gems. Rather go for a balanced build based on your master level and skills and the amount of gems you own.

Be careful when combining runes. Some combinations could be deadly. Some examples: If you increase the enemy movement speed too much, and some traps which have higher activation time (as push traps) may never be able to hit them or some enemies as the thief may pass too quickly before enough damage can be done. Increase the health and the health regeneration too much, and you may not be able to ever deal damage quick enough or unless you have many traps being able to act together.

Higher map tiers gain better items of higher tier, runes with better XP bonus, random maps with higher tiers and a lot more experience. Labyrinth maps increase their tier every time you complete them. So, as soon you have a labyrinth map available, focus on increasing it's tier, to gain first of all better items, which will help you tremendously.

If you have many low tier maps, either ignore them or complete them quickly to free up space for higher map tiers. You'll gain random maps of higher tiers from other higher tier maps, or by playing the constantly tier-increasing labyrinth maps for a while.

Gold can make a difference. Build whenever and wherever you can from the beginning and all the time Barricades with the Alchemy upgrades. Put as soon you can enough gems and skill points in the money-increasing traits or skills respectively.

You can and should use Diggers to your advantage on some maps...

(to be continued)

Trap tricks

Build one or two teleporter traps near your demon portal. All other teleporter maps should be next to water or cliffs, as this will make some enemies fall. The teleporters on your demon portal should have the "teleport to entrance" ultimate trait, while the others the "50% chance to teleport to tile" ultimate trait.

Teleporter traps which are in tight places or with barricades around and left with only 1 tile and 1 water or cliff, already act as if the "50% chance" ultimate trait would be active. It would be almost a waste to buy this trait with such teleporters. Use barricades around the teleporter to create such scenarios.

Chapter 2: The Masters Super Secret Techniques
CAUTION! This part may change radically your gameplay, not just your strategies.

PLEASE BARE WITH ME, AS I CONTINUE EXPANDING ON THIS AND COMPLETING THE INFOS. I published the guide already, to provide every info ASAP instead of just when it would be complete.

Diggers a pain? Battering Rams unbeatable? No longer! Learn how to deal with anything and anyone!

Gain 4, 5, 6 or 8 pages of items

The more items you gain, the sooner and more often you can transmute better items, even after almost every map.

Higher tier items gain better benefits. Items on tier 12 and higher may even give 1 or more bonus skill points to complete skill groups or a lot of extra XP per kill. Both things can give you a huge advantage on advancing.

10,000+ gems with a low tier map? Possible!

A million of gold or how about several millions?

You may be asking: What are millions of gold good for? If every map will be full of fully upgraded traps, with no spot left to build, long before you can use it?

There are several benefits:
  • During endless, as your level 4 trap limit increases, ultimate upgrades become more expensive. Eventually you'll reach the point, where specific traps are so expensive you can't buy them anymore.
  • You can use a handful of special trap upgrades more. Each one doubles it's price, so level 6 costs already 320k. Eventually, you'll reach the point, where they no longer matter as enemies receive HP values, your traps won't do any significant harm to them. Until then though, they can be extremely helpful for awhile.
  • The biggest benefit is on the waves where the enemies start slipping through. Combined with the Greed skill (name-to-be-added) which takes away some of your gold and turns the enemy into your friend instead of letting the enemy through the demon portal, the more gold you have, the longer you'll last - and the longer you'll have still enough gold to act.
  • The Greed skill (name-to-be-added) grants you a percentage of your gold on the start of each wave. With a lot gold, you'll gain so much every round, you won't run out for quite awhile longer, even while enemies reach your demon portal and burn a part of your gold.

How to make millions of gold early in the game?

There exist 2 strategies for that. Both combined will allow you to have by the first wave of the endless mode as much gold you desire. Yes, really.

How to beat a 250 Million HP enemy ... or even a 3,000,000,000 one!!

There comes a point in the game (in endless mode usually), where your traps may be no longer to deal enough damage to all enemies, even if you have deployed the maximum number of traps and upgrades.

Several techniques can help you deal with those enemies.

The explode&burn method

There's one way to deal more damage to enemies than your traps could do. The trick is to use the fact, that enemies can damage other enemies, when they explode. And the damage dealt is proportional to their health. So, effectively, if you make a several millions HP enemy explode, this one can deal hundreds of thousands or maybe even millions of damage (I don't know the exact relation, but it is a lot) to other enemies.

More so, if you have added to the skills tree, exploding enemies can set other enemies on fire.

How do you make enemies explode?

It is essential, that you can create somewhere either a bottleneck or have a location where you can hold back the enemies most of the time. Most times the best location is right on the entrace - but not always. Before that location, you place 3 chilling traps. If it doesn't permit for three, two may work too, but it won't be as effective. The first chilling trap the enemies pass through must have slow+chill+30% damage. The other two must have chill+freeze for half duration+explode on death. These 2 freezing traps can keep most enemies frozen in place - except if your runes or the wraith level enhances them too much. If you need additional help to keep escaping enemies in that location, use the fear consumable. Watch out though, as too close on the chilling traps, it may cause enemies to break out of their freezed state.

Now you need traps which are able to cut down heavily on the enemies health, best by a percentage to their current or max health. You may not be able to kill the strongest enemies, but it's enough to kill the weakest, even if it may take some time. The death of the weakest ones will cause in time the death of the stronger ones.

The cascading method

The cascading method adds as additional step to the previous one. The later in the waves, the harder it will be to apply. So, the enemies may start acculumating to the hundreds or more on that location. It is essentially what we want. One exploding enemy may damage many more other enemies the more are nearby and may set a lot other enemies on fire. The weakest of these may die immediately, and by their explosions others may die again, and by their explosion others may reach 0 HP again.

To achieve that, you don't want to be killing weak enemies too fast before that choking and freezing point.

This can create a cascade of explosions and a cascade of instant deaths of enemies. Since the burning effect accumulates on enemies, as soon we achieve that cascading, we are gonna deal a lot of damage to a lot of enemies in a very short amount of time.

So, don't worry if you are dealing with hundreds or more than a thousand enemies in a location at the same time. As long you can keep them there and cause this to occur, you may kill hundreds at once. This has been pushing my kill streak counter at times far beyong 500, and a handful of times even over 1000.

Appreciate the time to write a guide, but you could have explained the techniques above in the time it took you to write the response below explaining to look for stuff in the images. just saying.

Someone should pick back up on this. There's quite a few techniques I've picked up that arent here.

And... one of the most important things, don't be afraid to use difficult items on every map, just need to find your balance of some who work well together, while others may add too much and make things impossible. These will allow you to achieve early on (wish I did this even earlier, I were too careful about that early) with lower tiers - which on themselves are easier - higher and sometimes insane rewards.

It's a long time since I played it last, I may continue here and there adding to it one day, but I got busy with other things in life. As someone noticed well, the images are the ones who were added first and they are to give a lot of hints. So, wherever I couldn't finish writing things detailed out, pay attention to the small details, what is used or is active (ie. fear trap) on enemies, where and how and generally, think out of the box to achieve these things. But like I said, it has a big potential to spoil your fun in the game and maybe that's what all these things did for me :rcry:

It's been a long time, any plans to continue work on this?

You can reliably get an infinite number of battering rams to kill themselves if you hit them with two fear traps in a row on a 1-wide path. They try to move left, and end up falling in water. Not sure if that's what your image is hinting.

a good early game combo is demon + spike trap + grinder

you put the demon summons in a chokepoint and the spike traps where the demons are summoned and infront where the adventurers will be piling up, and the grinder behind the summon location because certain heroes (like theives) will ignore the demons and push through but get insta-mulched by the grinder (put darts, bolts, buzzsaws, flamethrowers whatever on the walls)

maybe put in other combo's that are useful for new people that might not have everything unlocked just as combo's that will really help that you can use until you unlock x traps

Hint: Where there is text missing, I picked the images from start like this (most got created even before the guide for that purpose), to try to show there the approach to achieve something. Have a closer look where the text is still missing, it might be helpful. Click on the images, some may contain some useful commentary there!
