How to get easy gold
By 7heo
Some other guides exist on how to get easy gold via the game, however, I don't really like grinding, especially when simpler and quicker solutions exist (I value my time more than this game, obviously). In addition, there is some educational value to this procedure, while the grinding can be done by any monkey. And yes, I am aware that most people would consider that cheating, but I don't mind cheating when it teaches me something while the honest path gives me no reward and wastes my time.

How to, step by step
  1. Get yourself a hexadecimal editor[en.wikipedia.org]
  2. Open your save file[savelocations.wikia.com]
  3. Go to offset 0x20
  4. Edit the 32 bit Unsigned Integer to the desired value
  5. Save the file
  6. Profit
Notes
  • On my machine, the value was stored in little endian.
  • The game has no protection against buffer overflow (no upper limit, for example), so beware if you play with too much money.
  • I have not tried to edit the file while the game is running. I wouldn't recommend doing so anyway.
How to find the information, a.k.a. "how to how to"
To find the integer holding the value for the current gold balance, I did save the game at two moments, once, in a shop, and again, after having bought and sold one item (since you don't buy at the price you sell, the gold balance is different). By comparing the two save files, I did find that the difference was only one 32 bit field, and I did find that it had the value of my current balance, in hexadecimal (which did confirm that it was the correct variable).

be like 7heo, instead of grinding and spending unnecessarily big amounts of time, try finding more efficient ways and learn something along the way

so weird that sonic came in and made a provocative statement for no reason and people are telling 7heo to calm down? sonics comment was literally meant to be an insult. or at least a put down. "no offense or anything i respect you but the way you do things isnt valid." and then 7heo gets rightfully upset that someone was a dick for no reason? yall are insane.

"I'm fine with those who cheat, but like I said, I wouldn't say that it would be considered completing the game."

okay? nobody asked. why make the comment in the first place? who even are you to pass judgement on the validity of someone elses playtime? these are digital action figures bro get off your fucking high horse.

I love how absolutely nothing that sonic said had any reason to warrant that kind of ridiculous statement. Get a grip on reality 7heo holy crap.

I have struggled with life every now and then, but indeed, I am inexperienced. So are you. Really no need to get super heated about this, I literally said that I'm fine with those who cheat. It's ok to cheat in video games as long as it doesn't harm other players or give yourself an unfair advantage in a multiplayer scenario. I'm fine with those who cheat, but like I said, I wouldn't say that it would be considered completing the game.

So I suppose that you don't ever plan on counting yourself as "having lived"? I mean, you certainly didn't struggle. You have enough means to obtain an Internet connection, to start with. You probably never were really hungry, or in immediate danger (with the exception of danger you put yourself in)... So by your logic, you're just as inexperienced as a newborn baby, right?

I myself have always liked grinding, but I have no problem with those who cheat to get around the grinding. I just don't really count that as them actually completing the game.

Well ive played many RPGs through my life. The genre I played the most are RPGs and JRPGs. I have never played a RPG or JRPG that doesnt have any form of grinding whatsoever. I myself have never seen one. Was born in 96, been playing games since I was 2, and RPGs since I was 4. I just dont understand the point of modding to get things easier when its much more satisfying to grind your way to the top. Getting a golden ticket to the best gear is significantly less satisfying than working your arse off to buy it yourself. Thats just me though. To each their own I guess, I just dont see what the point of playing is when you cheat. Goes with any game honestly.

Now, to finish: no, grinding hasn't been an integral part of all RPGs. It has been introduced at the same time as RPGs, and has since become more and more common in RPGs (because it is dead simple - even automatic - to implement, while the alternative - storytelling, gamedesign - is rather labor intensive), but you can easily find RPGs without much grinding, where the story and the character development is the main incentive.

What El Syd (well) said.

And, you might be too young to have experienced it, but there was a time when grinding was not yet a common place game mechanic.

As explained in this article [www.inverse.com], "Grinding slowly became a fundamental aspect of single-players RPGs even though its repetitive nature has been said to be a result of poor game design". Even if the concept is as old as RPGs themselves, hasn't always been a defining characteristic.

So, yes, there is controversy as to if grinding is enjoyable or not, but saying that "RPGs have been grind heavy since the first RPG" is plain wrong. When you play an RPG, you play a role. It should be the player's choice what amount of grinding the role implies, much like people chose different difficulties.
