I've since learned that while in auto-pilot I can use Weapon Aim to look around and the yellow path is still followed as long as it's there, plus Radar Map goes active. Downside is it's no longer in cinema mode. I can switch weapons and auto will continue as long as I stay in Aim Mode. So on Trader/Moonshine runs once I get auto I'll use a shotgun to look around while also watching my Radar. Once long distance targets appear I'll switch to Scoped Rifle, then to sidearms or shotgun as needed.

Auto Pilot (Hold V) also works for missions/tasks that lay down a yellow path, just like RDR2.
An additional advantage is you can still use some of the controls and selects so, for example, if you need to take tonics, do reloads, switch/holster weapons - all without having to navigate at the same time. However you do lose radar. If you detect/suspect attacks (shouts and gunfire) you can go back to active with 'V' or try to outrun them.

Bit of a learning curve but it saves on having to navigate and multi-task the whole trip.

well any real gamer tries everything and buttons .combs,holding thing, and things,such players realize them in their first days of playing like me, i could create content for more stuff to teach but not that kind of steam-nerd to create content and make a fancy looking profile ,people still dont know they can sell or donate the whole animal corpse ,they skin it instead.Too wrong, if ur not going to sell it to gus for the garment sets,skinning the animals for trade profession is not ideal ,it decreases its value,resourcefulness whatnot...and many .do a bow head-shot to keep the animal quality without decreasing it...etc
