How To Play Online with ZERO Issues
By Swiftor
If you're reading this, it means you love Monopoly but don't want your 3 hour game to fail half way in.

You're in the right place. In this guide, I'll explain how to host up to 6 players online in Monopoly Plus without your game failing.

Why should you trust me? Well, I'm not asking for your Park Place for 50 dollars above face value. But also, I've hosted hundreds of games of Monopoly Plus on my Twitch http://twitch.tv/Swiftor - and many of those games end up on my Monopoly YT channel http://youtube.com/Swiftopoly. Ok, self promo done, lets get you playing online where you can actually finish a game.

The method below is using Steam Remote Play and the Local game modes in Monopoly Plus. Why Local and not Online? It SAVES the progress, and you can invite players back in anytime. If your computer crashes, you can resume the game. If a player disconnects, you can reinvite them. This Is The Way.

The Tutorial
  • The online play built into Monopoly Plus isn't very good. We're going to use the Monopoly LOCAL game mode & Steams Remote Play Together feature.
  • Step 1: Only the host (you) needs to own Monopoly plus. Everyone else doesn't need to own/start the game. Other players just need Steam installed on their computer. They can even play from their phones or tablets (not covered in this guide yet).
  • Step 2: Start up Monopoly, press SHIFT+TAB to get to your Friends List.
  • Step 3: Right click on your friends that you want to play with and choose "Invite To Remote Play Together"
  • Step 4: Each of your friends will get an invite, they just need to accept it.
  • Step 5: When they are in, you'll see them listed in the Remote Play window. Make sure everyone playing is listed and in.
  • Step 6: I suggest making sure everyone is on some kind of voice chat (Steam voice chat, Discord, Zoom, whatever)
  • Step 7: when everyone is in, click on the icons below their names to give them control. I usually make everyone use KEYBOARD.
  • Step 8: Press SHIFT + TAB again, everyone should see and hear the game, and everyone is sharing the same controls. Just tell everyone to not press anything while you setup the game.
  • Step 9: On the main menu, select LOCAL, not Online play. Then choose the rules you want to use (Classic, Free parking, etc.)
  • Step 10: Next, its time for everyone to pick their tokens. Have everyone take turns picking a token (they have to go one at a time)
  • Step 11: Now finally you can play! Just tell everyone to ONLY press buttons when it's their turn. They can remember this easily by just waiting for their color to be on screen.
  • Other notes:
  • Ask the other plays not to ALT+TAB during the game without giving a heads up, otherwise it may mess with someones turn. For example, pressing ALT during an auction bids 100 dollars, and it would suck if someone did that while it was your turn to bid.
  • If someone get disconnected, no problem. Ask everyone to not press anything, then you go ahead and press SHIFT+TAB and invite them back when they're read.
  • Very rarely the game WILL still have a bug where you can't continue. All you have to do is restart the entire game and load up your save file. It'll continue from the most recent turn. It's happened to me maybe twice in the past 200 games. Your progress is safe. Your friendships? Well. Good luck with that.

Anyway, feel free to comment with your questions - and if you'd find a video helpful. I do this process live almost everyday on my Twitch stream if you want to hop in there and see how it's organized. Have fun out there and may the dice ever be in your favor.

hello, I can't open the game, does anyone know what could be the problem because the antivirus doesn't bother me at all because I can play business club on steam and it works perfectly.

I agree with everything that you just said... except for the fact that I have no idea what you're talking about and neither do you.
