Hello. The manual Russian translation for Velen mod was released a few days ago, and I made an update for you. Please accept my invitation so I can give it to you.
I have to agree with you, the balancing is far away from beeing perfect. And the problem with the shields is a good point, especially since the two handed weapons aren't even better then one handed weapons.
Its the first time that I hear that the "Switching ammo" feature breaks. Could you explain what you have done before that happened? Or do you still have a game save in which you had this bug?
- Shields only equippable for one-handed weapon users. Two-handed are already inferior to one-handed so not letting two-handed users equip shields on their back makes such a playstyle even worse.
- Two-handed weapons are too weak. Unique two-handers found in the mod are also pretty bad, one example being the Deathbringer.
- Summons and allies causing a 50% reduction in XP gained if they land the killing blow on an enemy. The XP penalty is extremely significant and player shouldn't be punished for finding other ways to kill enemies.
- Switching ammo type feature breaks early on. After playing for about 3-4 hours, I simply could not switch ammo types anymore. The workaround to this is to drop all types of ammo except the one you want to use, then pick them back up after combat.
It also introduces improvements to the base Gothic formula such as stat points from stat-boosting items not counting towards LP cost, visible hp/mana numbers, experience points awarded for lockpicking and pickpocketing (which can be done on 90% of NPCs but chance is based on DEX and item taken is random), as well as shields and helmets.
