[Windows] How to get to your mod folder STEP BY STEP, for dummies
By melack2
This is the most SIMPLE, BROKEN DOWN method I can give you for FINDING YOUR MOD FOLDER.

- SCREENSHOTS for people who DON'T LIKE WORDS
- Words for people who don't like screenshots
- BROKEN DOWN into incredibly SMALL portions.
- I might even add translations, if your lucky.

WINDOWS ONLY
I am a KID and typing this out, so if your still stumped, I don't know what to tell ya.
Unless your a kid. Your allowed to be stumped.

Get to your main files
Look at the grey bar on the screen. The one with the icons, either bottom, far left or right of the display.

If you don't see it, you are in full screen. Hit the button on your KEYBOARD that has 4 slightly slanted squares on it.

Press the YELLOW icon. If there are multiple yellow icons, this picture will tell you which to press.

When you click it, a window will show up. That will be covered in step 2.
Go to "THIS PC"
Now that you are in File Explorer, look for the text reading "THIS PC".
It has an icon of a computer as well for the picture pepole.

You will most likely find it on the left side of the screen. You know you have done this corectly when it is highlighted in blue, as shown here.
The next step is going to the main storage.
Double Click "Windows (C:)"
Look for the text called "Device and drivers"
If the carrot before it is pointing left (<) click the carrot so it is pointing downwards.

There should be 2 or 3 different things that appear.

CLICK the thing that reads "Windows (C:)" twice.
It will bring you to a list of files like this:

That's it for this step!

I just want you to know you are doing great. :)

Going to your User
Double click the file that reads "Users". It will bring you to yet another list of files.
Double click the one that you downloaded Prison Architect on.

If you are not sure which user to press, hit the "F9" key. This will send the computer to the lock screen. Don't worry, this won't close out of any of your windows. When you go to enter the password, look at the name that you are signing into. That is the default sign in. If you are not the main user, a list of other accounts will be at the bottom left, click the one you think did it

Preparation for the next step.
Windows will hide some folders that they don't want you to mess with, because if you change something your not supposed to, or somebody wants to clear up space and delete them, it could make the computer not able to function. Which is bad.

The folder we need is hidden, and to access it, you need to click a box.
Go to the top and click "View", then check the "Hidden Items" Checkbox.

If you are using the method that other people might say to do, which is to navigate the files through a program called RUN, you don't need to check this, but you do using THIS guide.
"App Data"
When a game or program wants something to be saved, it will either be saved in three locations:
  • ProgramData (not shown)
  • ProgramData(x64) or (x84)
  • AppData
ProgramData and ProgramData(x##)are for files everyone has. When you download a game, the levels, statistics, images, etc. are stored in here.

AppData Is the computer specific information for preferences, save games, and things YOU did to the game. Things such as, for example, mods you downloaded.

So, yeah, you will want to double click the folder that says "AppData". If it dosn't appear, make sure to look at the last step. Or it's deleted, in which case you won't be able to do this at all

IMPORTANT: if you have been skipping the words and just going off pictures, don't click "hide item, I didn't mean to highlight that!!!
Local
There should be 3 folders, I don't actually know if the three files shown are organized in anyway, but I DO know the files for PA are in LOCAL.

so ummmm... yeah go there.
this is turning out to be a lot less professional then i thought it was.
On your own: Final Step!! (well actually not really, but close enough)
Fellow reader, you are approaching the end of this guide.

The friends we have made, in the end, were really all that mattered. We don't remember the trails and hardships along the way, but rather the experiences, which will forever be a part of our lives in times of greater oppression. Let this be a reminder to keep this in your hearts and never forget the things that you have learned along the way.

nooooooope.

For reals though, this the last step, and i'm gonna have you leave here having learned something, so these last steps will be on your own. No screenshots provided.

- Introversion folder
- Find the mods folder
- Return back here 'cause I do want to teach you one last thing.
Thing that might help navigate the mod folder
so when you got in, it was a bunch of meaningless numbers, right?
yeah, kinda stinks, but that the way steam organized it.
You CAN, however, find the one you want by copying the page URL on steam or looking it up on google.
A mod link will look like this:
steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=########

The numbers at the end are the file it's in.
Well, that all for now!
Fare Thee Well,
Melack2
