@splash colour the problem with this suggestion is that the game doesn't launch immediately. it goes to the larian launcher FIRST so by all means this tactic will not work since the launcher loads up first preventing the sync override prompt to not even happen. i get the message about out of date sync in my library but when i click play it immediately ignores the prompt and attempts to download the unwanted old files that i want deleted. if i disable cloud sync and delete them, create a new save before finally renabling cloud sync to get the prompt it just gives me a message in my library about the cloud being out of sync but upon pressing play it immediately attempts to resync and launches the larian launcher.

Someone suggests online to start game, then start fresh game without mods, then delete the old saves within the game, and then make save on the game with same file name, and then exit and it should replace the old save with the new one.

NOW that i've discovered this link. all i have to ask is how do i DELTE files from my steam cloud storage....i have this one weird issue where i made copies of a configuration file for baldurs gate 3. the mod load order file specifically. i made copies of it as i made major changes while testing to make sure the game would work with the load order i made. I'd add more mods and make a copy of the mod load order file as a backup of the previous version in case i have to revert it back to the previous load order. but now every time a launch the game it downloads the copies i made and no matter how many times i delete them from my PC it doesn't permanently remove them from the cloud storage. i've even been given the prompt from steam to override the save files on my cloud with my local ones instead and it just uploads what i have in addition to what is already there.
