At every point of the game, you have to think about your opponents hand, and evaluate the power of your own hand.

The first thing you have to learn, is to fold. In Cash Game, don't play if you have a bad starting hand. Even if you paid the small blind.

It is better to let a pot go, than to lose money because you refused to fold thinking you were about to have a good hand after the flop.

In Sit and Go, you will be forced to play average hands because you don't have much money, but in Cash Game, just play the good hands, by following this chart (found on Unibet website):


You see that some hands are playable only if you're in late position. Because if you play last, you can see what your opponents are doing. By the way, always keep in mind that someone can have the best hand in the world, and still checks because he wants you to believe he has a bad hand.

One of the most common beginner mistake is to think that you should bluff every round.

If you bluff very rarely, people will take you seriously if you bet big, and your bluffing can be efficient, but if you do this every round, nobody will believe, and they'll follow you with and average/good hand.

I recommend to play safe: play only when you have something, and scale your betting according to your hand. If someone raises and your hand is weak, don't follow him. It's better to let someone who's bluffing win rather than loosing all your chips in one hand.

If you have a good hand, and you know that no other hand can beat yours, don't go all in. You can scare your opponents, and make them fold. If they fold, you won't win that much chips.

You can bet late if you want to bait your opponent. For example, if you have a K in your starting hand, and then there's two more K on the table after the flop, you can check, so they don't think you have a good hand. See if someone bets. Follow if it's the case. Go step by step when you're betting.

Remember that it's easier for your opponents to put 1000 chips on the table three times, than putting 3000 in one time.
