How to? Animated,transparent and fading sprays.

Okey, so in this guide I will explain to you how to make your own spray for any valve game (TF, G-Mod....).

Keep in mind that MAX spray (.vtf) file is 512kB. And try to use image size power of two (32x32, 64x64 etc..)
And make sure that server you are playing on have spraying enabled!

You will need:

Photoshop (or Gimp)
VTFEdit
Gif Splitter

Once you have those programs (Use Google to get them) follow the guide.

Open your Gif Splitter program and import .gif file you want as your spray here then split the image to seperate pictures.
Open VTFEdit, click on File ---> Import and select all frames from gif you seperated then import them.Once you import images youll see VTF Options window. Here you set Normal format to DXT1 and Alpha Format to DXT5. Texture type select as Animated Texture. You can also use Resize option, but i reccomend that you resize images in Photoshop (or Gimp) becouse it will save you more space. Once you did this youll see your image in window, and you can play animation here. Keep in mind that it will go slower in-game so dont panic. After youre done click on File --> Save as. . . and save it.
Once your animated image is completed make sure its in MAX of 512 kB file size or it wont showup in-game. Navigate to D:\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod and put .VTF file here. Once you are in game go to Options --> Multiplayer and import your spray.

Transparent

You will need:

Photoshop (or Gimp)
VTFEdit

Your image must be in .png file, it supports transparency so after you are finished editing your image save it in this format.
Open VTFEdit, click on File ---> Import and select your image. Make sure in menu bellow its checked as Eight Bit Alpha.
Once your animated image is completed make sure its in MAX of 512 kB file size or it wont showup in-game. Navigate to D:\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod and put .VTF file here. Once you are in game go to Options --> Multiplayer and import your spray.

Fading

This kind of sprays are (in my opinion) the coolest.
You will need:

Photoshop
VPKTool[www.ggmania.com]
NVidia plugin for Photoshop[developer.nvidia.com]
A bit of a skill in PS

!!Make sure your ingame texture quality is NOT set to LOW!!

Import file, you want as your spray in Photoshop and save it as .DDS file. Dont forget to choose folowing options -->DXT5 ARGB 8 bpp | interpolated alpha<-- and generate minimaps.
Once saved, open newly created .dds file. Also check "Load Minimaps option".

When it loads you will see the same image in different sizes (Minimaps). Now, you can replace smaler images with different ones, change their color or edit it how you desire. Keep in mind that biggest image is image you'll see at the closest distance. Smaller the image --> Bigger the distance for them to showup.
When youre done editing, save your hard work BUT don't forget to check option that says "Use Existing Minimaps"!
Now you have your .dds file with edited minimaps ready, open VPKTool program, go to texture and import here your .dds file. Then click on Convert .DDS to .VTF and you are done.
Once your animated image is completed make sure it has MAX of 512 kB file size or it wont showup in-game. Navigate to D:\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod and put .VTF file here. Once you are in game go to Options --> Multiplayer and import your spray.

Image will now change its state depending on distance from it, or on angle you are looking it from.

How do I make a gif with a transparent background? whenever I use external tools it comes out with a black background or with the transparency texture

To save me from future headaches... If DDS options aren't displayed when opening a file, save anything as a DDS first and make sure "show this dialog" is checked. Then try opening one.
