Beta's.
Select Experimental Branch.
Let it install.

Your friend has to select the correct version when launching the game and not just blindly click play twice.

My friend is trying to get into it but it keeps not letting him in the game only the old version lets.

There used to be more differences between patches. And ofcourse you can also use this method to get legacy branch. Which is still fun to goof around in sometimes.

@willski difference being experimental is possibly more unstable than normal version.
