When the relations between Consolidation and Aenum Republic escalated and it became clear that a war between the two neighboring states could not be avoided, OPC began to immediately modernize the fleet. Following the Serene that entered service, the Ontosh shipyards put a new generation of destroyers into mass production.

Developed in parallel with Serene, the Defiant project was kept secret and only a small number of people knew about it before the first tests. While Consolidation was just launching mass production of its own gun systems, some of the ships, produced at a significantly faster rate relative to proprietary weapons, began to be equipped with standard weapon systems available to Consolidation due to wide supply channels from other organizations and states.

Despite noticeably less powerful weapons compared to the "gold standard" of the Consolidation Defense Fleet, the Defiant-C poses a significant threat to its opponents. Ships of this class took part in the battles for Tarox and on all Border Worlds.

After several years in service, the ship received many improvements to remain effective in the Consolidation-Aenum War. The changes made each time the ships entered the repair dock resulted in the ship changing almost completely both inside and out.
