Striker-26F - Emergency Response Boat

Description
Type:
Deployable Emergency Response Boat

Speed:
45 knots

Range:
70km

Description

An all-weather emergency response boat based on the older carrier-based PT boat of the same name and project number, it was designed for deployment from trains and can therefore also be used as a secondary craft on larger vessels. Also comes with a range of medical and firefighting equipment.

Operation

Master power and radios is on by default. Bilge pumps will activate automatically if water gets in.

  • Turn the engines on (silent start).
  • Use WASD to throttle and steer from the helm, or use the throttle lever to apply throttle. Hold hotkey 1 to neutralise throttle.
  • For firefighting, turn on the water pumps and press space to fire the water cannon. A hose anchor behind the water cannon allows for hands-on firefighting.
  • Use the mouse to aim the water cannon, use arrow keys to adjust water cannon turnrate and elevation scale.

Reduce throttle in heavy seas or you may spend more time in the air. Throttle can still be adjusted under autopilot control.

To get out through the top hatch, attach to one of the control handles on the roof.

Autopilot

The boat features a basic autopilot system combining auto-heading and collision avoidance for automated navigation.

  • Auto-heading will move the boat directly to the given GPS coordinates, the boat will stop if the waypoint is within collision avoidance distance.
  • Collision avoidance will attempt to steer the boat away from landmass and shallows. It will also reduce speed or reverse to avoid collisions. Turn on the radar to also avoid other ships.

A good collision avoidance distance is around 60-100.

The autopilot system may not be 100% reliable and may sometimes sail the boat into a confined space, although it usually gets itself out again after some circling or doing a 1000 point turn.

Radio Control

The boat can be remotely controlled from the same command station used to control the NS Akkad tanker, including the command station on the IAV-8 Buccaneer aircraft (see links below). Every vehicle uses specific radio frequencies, unless set otherwise. For a list of frequencies, see the command stations' Workshop pages or notes near radio panels ingame.

Default frequencies are used when keypad inputs is set to zero.

When using the command station to set waypoint coordinates and collision avoidance distance, press the "Transmit Orders" button to transmit the data back to the boat. The boat will stop if radio contact is lost but, waypoint and collision avoidance data will be kept.

Some buttons on the command station will be different. The Collapsible Mast button turns the engines on for the boat and Generator Output displays fuel quantity. For the moment, the water cannon cannot be controlled remotely.

I absolutely love this, and the autopilot is amazing - Is there any chance you could make a separate demo vehicle for the autopilot + terrain avoidance?
