before we get to the guide I would like to inform you of something. It has recently come to my attention that there is a programm, called "gif" (goatse infection finder) which can automatically detect which addons might be corrupted with the .jpg Lua-Virus. As far as I can tell, it's is completely safe to use, should it come out that this is not the case I will remove this part from the guide.

If you are unsure, dont worry. I will keep updating this guide so you can find out which addons cause the .jpg jumpscare.
Anyway let's get back to the guide!

(this guide will feature pictures which are taken in a german steam client, I will translate the options depicted as best as I can)

You were just playing garry's mod yesterday, but now you as you booted up gm_construct you get greeted by a jumpscare which you cant even begin to describe.

Does that sound like you? If so, I have the perfect guide for you.

In this guide I will tell you how to figure out which addon causes these kind of jumpscares, how to uninstall it so you can return to your normal garry's mod experience.

First Step
When you are in the Gmod Tab in your Steam library scroll down until you see the little Workshop square, then click on the option "Show my Subscription" (or just the left option)




Second Step
Then click on the square I highlighted in the Screenshots and sort your Addons by "recently updated"

Third Step

Since I have played already today (without any virus encounters) I know that the Addon had to be updated today. If you haven't played Gmod for a longer time, you might need to take that in consideration.

[If you havent played since the 21st you will have to consider all Addons which have been updated since then]

Example:


I have already marked the Addon which is in my case at fault for the .jpg jumpscare. But how did I find out? It's simple, so simple that you could do it with your eyes closed. (metaphorically speaking)

Now, since I knew that the faulty Addon had to be updated today, there were only three possible options.

1. Food SWEPs Pack
   
2. gm_mallparking
   
3. Improved Prop Interact

(note: "gm_mallparking" and "Improved Prop Interact" are safe to use)

The easiest thing you can do, is checking the respective workshop pages. Since only the "Food SWEPs Pack" has it's comments disabled that is a instant red flag. But that alone might not always work.
So the next logical step is to start Gmod, disable the suspected addon (in this case Food SWEPs Pack) and see if the jumpscares have stopped.
If they stopped, good. Go to the Addons workshop page, dislike it and report it to steam so they can delete it asap.

If that didnt work you can always either check each addon seperatly (disableing them one by one) or just uninstalling all of them, if there are no clues on which one caused it.

Some people have also said that they had multiple addons causing this, if you have this problem as well i would recommend uninstalling or deactivating all addons which have been updated since the last time you played. Now this solution is not perfect, but it will save you from having to delete all your addons.

Last Step
Launch Gmod and enjoy the peace and quiet until some other guy thinks it's funny to add a lua-virus to his addon and you'll have to repeat all of this again.
