Introduction
Everybody's Gone to the Rapture is a walking sim, and while it's a pretty good one, it has one big problem: Saving. You can only use autosaves, which are triggered by activating those motion-control orbs, which are few and can be far in between if you explore a lot. And worse of all, they only have 1-time use. If you have to go or your game crashed before finding the next orb, your progress will be gone.

Luckily, there is a beta feature you can enable, and it will make saving a lot easier and less stressful. Here's how it works:
Enabling the beta
In your Steam Library, right-click on "Everybody's Gone to the Rapture" and select "Properties". It will open a new window. In this new window, open the "Betas" tab, and opt into the "map_save" beta. You do not need to enter an access code as it is open. Then close the tab and run the game.

Look at the picture if you need guidance:
How to save manually
Now you can manually save in the game without relying on autosaves after motion-controlled orbs. You don't save through the menu however, you must still find save points. These save points are maps, like the one you will hunt down if you're looking to get the "Lost" achievement. But it works on almost every map, not just the ones with the "You Are Here" signs. Random maps (usually on walls) without these will save as well If there's a prompt to left click, you can save on that map, and you can save more than once. Be sure to take a few steps back first though.

They look like this:
Additional Notes
Now you can play the game a lot more comfortable without stressing about missing progress. Of course, crashes can still happen, so it is recommended to save on every map you pass just in case. And here are a few extra notes I will state in case you have unasked questions:
  • I recommend opting the beta since your very first playthrough.
  • There is no difference between the beta version and the basic version other than the manual saving. Autosaves after those orbs will still be there too.
  • Achievements still work, and you can save even during your "Radio Enthusiast" run and it will still unlock in the end.
Acknowledgements
The information about the manual saving beta is available in the Discussions forum, but I made a guide just in case some people missed that and to be more clear. Personally I think this should be the final feature. Link to discussion here.
