With TF2's recent update (July 29th) Valve has fixed the issue:

> "Fixed an occasional lag spike when showing the kill cam for some players"

When you're in the main menu, open the console and type "hud_reloadscheme;record fix;stop"

"hud_reloadscheme" - Reloads your hud

"record fix;stop" - Fixes any visual bugs (e.g. invisible players)

READ THIS IF YOU'RE RUNNING TF2 WITH A LOW-END PC/LAPTOP

I've come across the fact that on more low-end PCs/Laptops the command may not work or will generally perma-freeze the game, so for that, we'll go over configs and what they are to help you out and if anything, atleast make it so your game doesn't perma-freeze when using the command listed from the last chapter. This technique is a bit more complicated and requires a download, but is free.

Currently, there is no confirmed reason behind the recent TF2 freezing issue. However, it is most likely linked to a recent change to the player death freezecam as the issue does not occur when dying to yourself or the environment. Change in question:

> "Fixed %killername% and other placeholder names sometimes showing up on the kill cam and stats screen"

My guess is the issue generally affects people worsely depending on how bad their performance was in the first place, but I can't confirm it isn't just a one setting fix either. Many do not experience the bug at all, but for few there might not even be a working solution.


There are many types of configs available, and there are also many tutorials. If you're using a config and the problem still persists, you could always start over and try a different one. Especially one with even lower settings. I'd recommend mastercomfig as it is very easy to utilize and has popular tutorials you can easily find: http://mastercomfig.com


If you've tried and none of this is working, sadly you may have no other option than to wait for Valve to patch it (if they ever do). Apologies.
