Commandos excel at being field commanders either by assisting their allies with smoke grenades and officer style abilities, or disrupting the enemy with their bullpup and flash grenades.

Squaddie:
Low Profile: Low Cover acts as high cover.
Riot Control: Provides 1 free smoke and flash grenade at the start of missions.
Grenadier: Grants a grenade only slot
Implacable: Getting a kill grants a move only action once per turn.
Rapid Deployment: Activate to make your next support grenade a free action.

LCPL:
Blinding Fire: Fire at enemies in a cone reducing enemies aim even on misses.
Combat Drugs: Smoke grenades grant units in the initial blast 20 aim and 20 will.
GrimyDeadlyHaze: Enemies hit by grenades deal 2 less damage for 1 turn.

CPL:
Impulse: Gain +10 Aim and +10 Crit if you have moved this turn.
Dense Smoke: Smoke grenades provide 10 additional defense.
Bluescreen Bombs: flash grenades now also disorient mecs.

SGT
Run And Gun: Activate to gain a non-movement action.
Salvo: Launching or throwing grenades or using heavy weapons is no longer turn ending.
Disabling Shot: Fire a special shot that stuns an enemy.

SSGT
Soften Up: Deal +2 Damage against full health enemies, works for firearms, melee, and grenades
Light Ordnance: Grants +2 charges to all grenades, but grenades deal half damage.
Hidden Reserves: Once per mission reset the cooldown of all your abilities.

TSGT
Hunters Instincts: Deal +2 damage with ranged weapons against flanked enemies.
Sting Grenades: Flash grenades have a chance to stun enemies.
Ghost Grenade: Throw a specialized smoke grenade that grants concealment.

GSGT
Double Time: Activate to get a free move only action. 2 Turn CD
Full Kit: +1 Charge to all grenades.
Coup De Grace: Gain bonuses to hit, crit, and damage with primary weapon against disoriented enemies, doubled against stunned enemies.

MSGT
Saturation Fire: Fire your primary weapon in a cone.
By My Command: Once per turn the first officer ability or cover me you use will not cost an action.
Thousands To Go: Once per turn when you kill with your primary weapon gain a non-movement action point.

Total combat would be huge here. So many actions but so little to do as is.

Soldier can equip the extra UB Grenade and Shotgun Ammo packs as secondaries, but not the UB Flamethrower one (relevant because while not on normal bullpups, all UBs can be equipped on the ADVENT Enforcer Rifle).

looking at the perk list here, hasn't the perk tree changed extensively?
