It's too bad there aren't more guides. I feel like the bestiary achievement is gonna be trouble unless the next few levels start spamming like 9 new enemy types
I actually wonder if the colored blocks are necessary for your methods to work, though they might make it substantially easier. In running other levels, I often found it was possible to get on top of any surface if you grab its side at a very high height. However in all of the cases where I found this while routing, I was never able to consistently execute it (I do not have speed-runner tier skills). In the end, I was able to fit under all the expert times without ever needing it.
Version 1.9 will supposedly patch out the time freeze trick, but for now it works like this:
If you "reset" the level just as you are falling to death the game will restart twice and break the timer. Any sort of loading interaction will resume it, namely dying or using any portals. ...This is arguably easier to execute, but requires the player to make a no death no portal run.
There's a 5th method. If you check the discussion & artwork pages, or youtube "frogun glitches" - you'll come across people just spamming grapple and holding jump to slowly crawl walls upwards. Personally, I haven't managed to actually climb but at least stick to a wall for minutes while gaining height. So that could also help pass the red gate.
Step4 [i.imgur.com]
Dodge 1 magic bolt then grapple to the pillar.
Step5 [i.imgur.com]
Eat 1 fire then use the hit immunity to grapple straight.
Step6 [i.imgur.com]
Make a full jump (hold space bar) and at peak grapple the platform.
Step7 [i.imgur.com]
After reaching the platform either grapple above caterpillar or "jump" to step 8
Step 8 [i.imgur.com]
Grapple into the goal wall.
Results [i.imgur.com]
Doable in below 20 seconds but I was taking a deep breath and pictures after some jumps tbh.
Alll gates can be skipped, only red matters. The ledge hopping here works in the entire game, same as spamming "restart" sometimes freezes the clock entirely until you die / use a teleport.
RED GATE: [each attempt takes about 4 seconds and 4 key clicks but excellent timing]
Step1 [i.imgur.com]
When the level starts: face red gate and grapple.
Step2 [i.imgur.com]
Walk to the right side (green blocks) and aim for the centre.
Step3 [i.imgur.com]
Once the green blocks spawn, walk off the cliff. After about 0.2 seconds of falling, grapple.
Retry until you land on top of the blocks. I only manage this in about 30 tries myself.
Lastly, I'm spamming space bar on reflex when I collide with the block, but I don't think it's mandatory to land on top. Someone please verify.
The way I got around the red gate was to latch onto the central walkway behind it when the red blocks disappeared, but timing it so that when Renata reached the walkway, the red blocks would return and Renata would wind up being caught in them. Being in the blocks forces Renata to clip up through them. Very very finicky but I managed to get it after like 10-15 min
...I think your method is a bit more reliable LMAO
