Intro
A short guide, more of a list of assets than anything else that could be added to the workshop.

I have created it mostly because I have noticed people focusing mostly on the most common type of street furniture and lacking any advice or information on what else could be there.

Street furniture - called differently in different languages - is basically a group of details placed in our towns and cities (and villages) whose purpose is to generally make citizens' life easier, more pleasant and give an impression that a mayor actually... cares. It's for lifting up living standards, making the public space inviting as oppose to a bare street with nowhere to sit or worse - to bin your rubbish.
And what's more important it's for free - yes it's covered by the taxes you pay but not by direct payment when you decide to use it. It's provided by the local council or a local government - yes, by you yourself as the mayor of your town.
Some count those paid ones into this group as well and I will include them too. Some of these objects can be both paid and free to use - depending on a city policy (unfortunately the current game doesn't allow for differential treatment between districts, which is a shame).

Some of those objects serve people well - so they can rest, hide from the oppressive heat or even to have a drink and refresh themselves.

Some serve the policing function as well as protecting people from harm.

And others serve as meeting points or focal points in towns.
They can be part of a street or a square, piazza or a plaza.

Wherever they are placed - they are there to subtly divert people's attention and influence their behaviour. Want your citizens and tourists think your city is nice - give them trees, squares, benches and toilets (or whetever you think makes a city a nice one). Want them be disoriented and miserable - put bollards, walls, fences, give them no place to sit or rest, make the public transport private without any oversight (not this game, I know), strip them of any information signs and bombard them with intrusive adverts.

There aren't many mechanics (well, there is none) to simulate the effects of such policies and decisions in Cities Skylines, and I doubt that the newest expansion (Plazas and Promenades) would provide them. But we all already got used to it and keep pretending that it's otherwise :)

So let's have a good time and get creative.

Also, although I had the idea to write this guide some months ago, only recent announcement of the Plazas and Promenades expansion pushed me to work on this guide.

So without further ado let's jump into it.
Free of charge features
Let's start with those that we have plenty on the workshop (as of 2022):

- benches
- planters
- flower/plants pots
- walls (not those of buildings, just low walls separating some areas)
- fences
- fountains
- monuments, statues, memorials
- parks
- trees, bush, greenery in general
- gazebos
- bollards
- bins, trash/garbage cans, dustbins, waste containers
- streetlamps, lampposts
- traffic barriers
- traffic lights
- bus and tram stops and shelters
- information displays, whether for the public transport or a business
- bicycle racks
- traffic signs
- information signs
- sheds
- all forms of advertisement (if too many it can actually lead to misery and chaos in the architecture (see some central European countries, some Asian countries too), including advertisement columns

Now those that I haven't found many on the workshop - if any at all:

- troughs (empty or with flowers in - they have the same function as planters but different past and the look)
- art
- sculptures - i don't recommend that one for the current game - usually it contains too many tris
- rotundas
- public water troughs
- public water pumps (none in the workshop)
- town or public wells
- pergolas
- columns and colonnades (maybe just single ones, that may add too many tris to the game)
- obelisks
- toilets, rest rooms
- beach showers
- information signs (static info, not an electronic display)
- information boards
- direction signs (usually road signs)
- electrical boxes (there is a few on the workshop)
- hydrants
- hose storage box
- taxi stands
- pillories

These are the items that citizens usually don't pay for using them - toilets can be both, depending on how inviting a city wants to be - free toilets = more peace of mind for those who have all sorts of medical conditions.
There is quite likely a lot more such objects and features, and anyone with some examples, please drop me a message with a link to a description (can be in your language, I should be able to find a translation), and let's extend this list of ideas.

Let's have a look at the paid items.

Street furniture that you usually pay for
That is the question: is an item still a street furniture if you have to pay for its usage. Or is it just a paid service?

Let's have a look on what we can include in it to give you some ideas to work on, to enrich the workshop and Cities Skylines community with the variety of assets.

- post box, letter box, mailbox, drop box - call it whatever - we have a few of them, unfortunately they cannot provide any function in the current game, they're props only
- vending machines
- ticket machines
- phone boxes or booths
- pay and display or car park ticket machines

And here is a list of those that there are a few or none on the workshop:

- newspaper vending machines or stands
- kiosks

If you have some other examples, drop me a message to include them, add a link to a description of it or an image at least.
A prop, a park or a unique building?
The list above is not full and I will be updating it as I come across some different examples.
But for those who would like to fill in the gaps in the workshop assets, a decision has arrived - to make it as a prop or a park, or maybe a unique building.

I personally prefer parks and/or unique buildings - they will give some value to tourism and have at least some function. The game lacks mechanics here and it would be nice for such assets to make up for it.
But it's up to you - we all will be thankful anyway for some contribution.
