Original Description:

Inspired by Verne's Two Years' Vacation, here is my 3D interpretation of Chairman Island's original map.

This island is based on a real place and location (Hanover Island, Magallanes Region, Chile), however, Jules Verne probably didn't have any more info on this island other than its location and estimated size. So, he proceeded to draw what he thought would be a close-enough approximation of the real island based on his general knowledge of the area. Verne's Chairman Island turns out to be a much more homely and forgiving location than its real counterpart, which in reality would have offered the book's characters a much grimmer and probably lethal experience.

However, I have taken Verne's map and tried to bring it into "reality" as close as possible just for fun and some nostalgia as the novel was one of my favorite books growing up. You can easily find and identify most of the locations from the novel, such as Frenchden, Auckland Hill, Family Lake and so on.

I'm really excited for other people that may be familiar with the novel to try the map and have a great time building a city and finding all the little easter eggs I've placed in there for them to enjoy. If you have not read the novel I hope you find it enjoyable anyway.

Chairman Island is a fairly flat map, the tallest point is Auckland hill wich rises about 200 units / meters above sea level.
There are 5 rivers and a huge lake at the center of the island, 2 rivers flow from it onto the sea while only 1 river flows into the lake itself
The map contains resources enough for an industrial-centered city but space is tight so you need to be careful with your planning

If you like it please shoot that left thumb all the way up,
