I'll make this part short since it's literally just some šhit I read on the wiki.
In 2009 Valve added the first and most recognizable hats. Hats such as, the Bonk Helm, the Tyrant's Helm, Pyro's Beanie, Demoman's Fro, Officer's Ushanka, the Mining Light, Vintage Tyrolean, Master's Yellow Belt, and the Fancy Fedora.
Usually if you see someone with a high tier unusual it'll be one of these hats and for one reason, they fit the art style. It's true that hats from 2009 to 2010 are very visually appealing with they're simplicity and clear art direction. 2011 has some goodies sprinkled around and then 2012 comes around. You see all the promotional hats and go "what the fück?" Don't get me wrong there's "some" goodies but it's a lot of odd promos like ghost recon and dishonored etc. I dunno what they were thinking cuz this was the update that added the marxman, detestably the best all class in the game. From 2012 the amount of nice hats goes down further and further with every year until it hits it's apex of šhit hats in 2016 where I believe it's the end of quality control.

2016 hats are some of the worst fücking hats but aren't THE worst of the worst. These hats are serving small time and I'll show you some of the top picks of each year till 2022.

I'll start with the low hanging fruit. This hat is pretty much a dog whistle for furries, looks horrible and target anyone who wears it.

Another low hanging fruit in 2017, tied with the balloniehoodie. Unlike the balloniehoodie I see people wear this eyesore. Tbh it's horrible, not sure why it was added.

Kinda odd how some of the worst hats tend to be pyro hats right? Just me? Alright well, these hats are actually vile, so vile that i couldn't help but put them together. I considered putting turtle engi hats here since they are also terrible but at least nobody wears em.

Now it's getting bad, I've only hand picked some really bad ones but tbh all the hats in 2019 are pretty nasty. So the mongolian hair for heavy, never seen anyone wear cuz it's a budget massed flies dread knot. Rètarded meme hat that got added for no reason, once again I see no one wear this. Stupid halloween horns only furries wear -rep. Pebbles the Penguin is THE worst pet in the game like why is there a penguin on your shoulder, who fücking knows.

Too round out the section I'm gonna put 2020 and 2021 together because there's so little hats and they're pretty much the same.

Bread themed cosmetics are extremely ugly and are only made for cUrSeD sets. Stop making elf cosmetics for christmas nobody wears them after christmas

But first a confession...the summer 2022 crate actually isn't the worst ever, it has some pretty down to earth cosmetics. I wouldn't go out of my way to get many of em but most if not all of em are pretty good. Maybe the frog on spies head comes to mind when thinking about šhit hats or the elite grade bucket hat. Other than that the only god awful šhit is whats on the workshop and what could possibly come to TF2 in 2022. Once again these are hand picked but they boil down to reference, appealing to certain kind of person, or just "funny". The reason why these are bad is because who's gonna get the reference? Not every person in TF2 believe it or not is a disgusting furry pyro. Not everyone is gonna think painting the blood bag yellow and naming it pee or piss is funny...I hope. And the other two being the bone and "my parents don't love me" scout just genuinely look bad. How do you head shot something with no head? Who knows...And I want my scout to look cool not look like a fäg, like if you thought the millennial mercenary looked bad? damn wear that šhit with the wuflu mask shiiiiii you'll be the GenZ mercenary. Heh and don't you dare go looking for that pyro set on the workshop šhit'll give you nightmares.

If you have a new gen hat with a new gen unusual effect sell that šhit right now cuz I'm gonna let you know that all new effects are fücking horrible. That goes for every year since the old šhit and don't even get me started on unusual taunts. I don't care yous got the rarest effect on the all class taunt that šhit worth five bucks real tawk. You can't even taunt in a corner to peak around cuz everyone gonna see your šhit flying. Then you die, you know it's bad when you can't corner peak with taunts cuz all of it unusual. Heh just having unusual taunts makes you look broke as fück, can't buy no hat gotta buy stupud fücking glowing animation for your ADHD brain.
