Introduction

There are 2 ways to change the standard backgrounds for Garry's mod.

1 - The annoying way

2 - The easy (and publishable) way

The annoying way

you will need
1920 x 1080 JPEG images you want to use as your backgrounds.
A folder (optional)

Step 1

First, you will need to get to the Garry's Mod file directory. Go to your library and right click on Garry's Mod. Now, click on properties and click Local files. Finally, click Browse Local Files.

Step 2

Head into the backgrounds directory.
GarrysMod/garrysmod/backgrounds

Step 3 (optional)

Create a folder outside of the Garry's Mod directory, I put mine in downloads because I am a degenerate. Move all of the backgrounds from there into that folder for just in case you want to revert back to the original backgrounds. If you do not want to do this, just delete the images.

Step 4

Paste all of your backgrounds into the folder.

The cool way 😎

Using this method, you will be able to easily configure it and be able to publish it. I recommend using gmpublisher https://github.com/WilliamVenner/gmpublisher/releases as it is very easy to use.

You will need
1920 x 1080 JPEG images for your backgrounds
Four folders: Your addon's name, gamemodes, sandbox, backgrounds. For clarification, these are what you name the folders.

Step 1

Go to the Garry's Mod directory (go back to step 1 of the first method)

Step 2

Go to GarrysMod\garrysmod\addons

Step 3

Move your folders into addons.
First place the folder with the name of your addon into the addons folder.
Next, place the folder named "gamemodes" into that folder.
Place the folder named "sandbox" into the gamemodes folder.
Finally, place the folder named "backgrounds" into the sandbox folder.

Step 4

Place your images into the folder named "backgrounds"

Publishing your backgrounds

This step is optional, and only works with method 2.

Step 1

Download gmpublisher and run it.

Step 2

Click "Publish new" and click the browse button next to "addon path"

Step 3

Go to your Garry's Mod file directory.

Step 4

Click the folder for your addon (the folder with your addon name on it) and click Select folder.

Step 5

To find an addon thumbnail, click on the browse button near the top of the gmpublisher window and find your image. The rest should be straightforward.

Step 6

Once the uploading process is done, it will take you to your addon page on your browser. Customize it to however you like, and then make it public.

Hello when i try selecting my location folder for BG in the program don't show up anything. How i can resolve?

This is my path: D:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\backgrounds
and in gmpublisher say: No file found

my comment is probably not going to be answered, but is there a way to keep it updated if i want to continuously add more images to it?
